I haven't been on this app for an age but I came back for Fangs of Fortune and Zhao Yuanzhou
Choices play a vital part in the whole narrative. Making impossible choices in impossible situations. ZYC chooses to bear the guilt of killing the person he loves the most in the world for all eternity, and Zhao Yuanzhou chooses to die. But that is not his final choice, HIS FINAL CHOICE IS ZHOU YICHEN - he chooses him as the person, as the last thing, he wants to see when leaving this world, even his dying breath belongs to ZYC. It's one of those rare times he decides to take something for himself, do something his heart desires.
WX keeps talking to him, but he doesn't even hear her, his gaze fixed on ZYC, and it's only in front of him, looking at him, when he allows his tears to fall. He leaves the world with a smile on his face, watching the person he loves, never taking their eyes off each other, as he vanishes into thin air.
It's a call back to and juxtaposition of all those love triangle shot, with ZYC being seemingly the third wheel with one-sided love, his gaze lingering on both of them, but ZYZ's death reveals the true OTP. He lets go of WX in that moment both physically and metaphorically.
Thughin retrospect, there was actually a fair share of well hidden scenes where WX was revealed the odd one out. ZYC was always there whenever ZYZ made those foreshadowing promises and declarations, just as he was always there when they came to pass.
Even during the comment of him turning into rain, it's ZYC right behind him and he is the first one ZYZ's raindrops fall, just like he had been the first one for whom his teardrops fell when he was dying.
Also, you totally wanted him to die in your arms, which must have been the original plan if it weren't for the censors.
The fact that the last person Zhao Yuanzhou sees, the last person he chooses to look at, is the first and only person he chooses to find him, to reveal himself and his soul to. The continuity between those two moments is so poignant.
ZYC's sword reacting and recognizing ZYZ has been played for a comic relief throughout the drama, it used to annoy ZYC so much, but it was this very ability that was the only hope he was left with and relied on for his sanity, the hope that kept him alive - the sword that killed the love of his life, but also saved him, the weapon he hoped and prayed would one day lead him to him.
That's why it's even more beautiful and meaningful that even before the sword reacts, Zhuo Yichen recognizes Zhao Yuanzhou's soul. Not with the Truth Eye or the Light Cloud Sword or any other supernatural ability, he sees him and recognizes him with his heart. His heart answers and reaches out to ZYZ's soul before the sword does.

the demons of 大梦归离 Fangs of Fortune + their true forms as recorded in 《山海经 The Classic of the Mountains and Seas》
--
《山海经》 is a compilation of mythic geography and beasts and was believed to have been written during the Warring States period (475–221 BC) of China's history, although the authorship is contested and the current version was probably revised and edited in the Han Dynasty. Fangs of Fortune derives much of its lore from this book, including the physical descriptions of creatures and the battle between Ying Long and Bing Yi and the relationship between characters like Li Lun and Ying Zhao.
The illustrations used in this gifset are a more modern rendition by the artists 杉澤 and 李堃 (who drew Bing Yi).
