The Grinch and Christianity
I hadnt watched the grinch in a while, but it reminds me of how homogenized christianity/christmas is in Eurocentric countries specifically. The idea that the one outcast is the one person who dislikes/doesnt celebrate christmas, who happens to also be ugly and green is weird. Then in the originals if I recall correctly everyone is scared of him(i could be remembering wrong). Then they equate his hating of christmas/whos to having a small heart. It really rubs me the wrong way. I grew up Christian so this never really clicked for me, but not celebrating christmas should not equate to having a smaller heart. Rather than allowing others to celebrate their own things, the assumption is that not celebrating christmas must be inherenty evil or ill natured. I find this reflects oddly on other religious communities such as Judaism, Islam, and many others. It also does not allow for any form of questioning to be present, where the resolution is conversion, less than understanding. This is not to say you should not celebrate (I still celebrate) but it speaks to the early endoctrination of youth, although it does not have a specific label as such, disguised within popular culture. Everything, especially kids movies, have a message, this one is clear, love christmas, or have a small heart. If you do not celebrate christmas, I apologize that you may have had to grow up with such examples.

Happy danger days birthday

life is falling apart and it all comes back to tumblr
i think "it takes a village" shouldn't be just "to raise a child". we should understand it takes a village to do literally everything we do. all day every day. without our communities we would not have drinking water or electricity or clean streets or food or shelter or anything. we cannot do any thing alone. we just can't. and with that comes the fact that you are not alone. you already have a community, seek to be an active part of it, you will feel better. reach out and thank them, they're happy to have you too. i promise. it takes a village to live.
It takes a village to raise a child and it takes every neighbor to raise a barn and it takes all hands on deck to clean the river. We were built as a communal species. Lend what you can, and accept what you're offered.
