she’d finally caved and gone into a hospital when she’d nearly collapsed just walking to the bathroom, and as much as she’d hated the whole thing she was relieved to have the ribs realigned - she could speed the healing process by feeding the void a bit more than usual, and all of this would be behind her in no time. still, going out and just finding people to throw into whatever exactly the void was wasn’t always a simple task, namely because she was trying to stick to only killing those that deserved it, and she didn’t trust herself not to pass out just walking around the city on her own - which was what had led to this moment.
“don’t suppose you’d be interested in joining me for a night out? i’ll even buy dinner, just need a walking buddy.”
i’m not afraid when the world goes dark - i know this is what coming home feels like
she’d seen the shadows dancing for as long as she could remember - had watching them twisting and spinning, had been soothed by the darkness when most children had cried. she didn’t know they were there for her, had more or less come from her, but she knew they felt like something she’d never had - home.
the first time she fell through them and into the void, she was five years old. she had been hiding in a closet, though she can’t entirely remember why, and had slipped away into a world that mirrored the one she’d come from - one wrapped in darkness, mostly black and white and seemed devoid of life in spite of the voices she heard whispering past her. she didn’t know what to call it then, her little shadow world, but she knew it was hers.

Visiting the bar was usually something reserved for weekends but the day had proven to be trying enough to require a break from Verity’s usual evening routine. There were multiple reports related to a squirrel behaving oddly by the donut shop and that had been enough to make her realize just how slow of a week the department was having. She opted for a glass of whiskey and remained seated at the counter, rubbing her temple before taking the first swig of her drink.
“Rough day for you as well?” Verity asked with a nod in the direction of the person on her right. “Although I don’t think rough necessarily means having to put up with multiple complaints about an erratic squirrel outside Griddy’s… It was still a major inconvenience.”
if there was one good thing to be said for american cities it had to be something about the sheer volume of bars to choose from. ember had spent most of her afternoon wandering the city and stopping in to check out various places - anything to keep her away from the bickering of the others with powers she’d been half-introduced to when she’d arrived to ‘help save the world’ or something. she’d finally settled on one and found herself a place at the bar, had done her best to take on a generic american accent as she’d ordered.
“something like that,” she murmured as she glanced towards the other, offering a small shrug. “i don’t know about griddy’s, but squirrels are a problem everywhere. did they manage to catch it?”
In IRELAND I found EMBER MACKENNA a child with the ability of DARKNESS & DARK ENERGY MANIPULATION. At first SHE came off as TEMPERAMENTAL but they also seemed PROTECTIVE. I was unable to procure the child, as an adult, they should resemble KATHERINE MCNAMARA.

TRIGGER WARNINGS: death of children, death,
legit had solid black eyes when she was born - they faded after a day and a half, but her mother was still convinced she was a demon baby. she kept her for just under a week before she’d had enough of the girl’s constant wailing and simply left her outside an orphanage.
was wild and temperamental from the time she was little. the people that ran the first orphanage she was in were of the same opinion as her mother had been - she was clearly the work of the devil.
she was five the first time she used her abilities - she doesn’t remember what set her off, but the anger inside her spilled out and engulfed the entire orphanage in shadow - the caretakers and other adults were dragged off while most of the other kids didn’t even last that long. only one other kid survived - they calmed her down, helped make it look like something else had happened, and promised to protect her forever. she believed them.
they bounced around a lot, but even when they were on their own she knew she could count on them to be there when she needed them. they were sort of like a grounding rod, keeping her from completely hating the world and going dark side. every time she did give in they managed to pull her back and get her far enough away no one would ask questions.
they died a little over a year ago - she’s struggling to keep herself in check. this is a large part of why she agreed to help out. honestly she'd let the world burn if it was up to her, but she knows they’d want her to at least try to help.
i’ll go into more depth on her powers in her actual bio, but there’s a parallel world she can slip into called the void - she can take/drag others in as well, though most can’t survive it ( she sorta feeds on that energy ).
every room she enters gets a little dimmer - she could stop this, but it takes more effort than she’s usually willing to put in.
either way her powers are constantly running lowkey, and it takes a lot of her. she eats a lot to make up for it - 96% chance she’ll go for something with a high sugar level.
deep down she wants soft things, but won’t allow herself the option.
