In the stillness of my heartbeatās rhythmic pauses, I feel pangs of neediness. The need to be left alone even when my skin craves holding.
My first red gladiola this year.

I have seen fragments of eternity in the smile of an Afrikan face Contented by the chance to be visible in a world that sees us As monkeys that have just learnt to blend into the bigger picture.
I have learnt to laugh with a dagger in my spine so that the knife Twisters will leave me alone just for another moment So I can breathe and listen to my heartbeat when there Isnāt a soul to share my burden with. My own voice is soothing enough for now. My mouth tastes like saw dust when I think of the people who have Hurt me in the name of eternal love.
Feel my stomach as it turns each time I see you trample me with religion and pour Hatred into my shoes so that when I walk I feel this squishy squishy Foam rubber they call religion that seeks to keep me from feeling Proud of my own strength and valour. I have already been to hell.
My existence is sturdy and unbreakable. It will never make you feel small or guilty. It is there to remind you that Afrika is a place of spirit over the tangible. It is there to remind you that you are because I am.
My existence is there to teach you that you can be anything you have taught Yourself not to be. We are the same person you and I. Except, I am the one inside your mirror.
You keep gazing at me, Hoping that I will be more palatable to your illusions of Human perfection. There is only one way to make me change. And that is on your side of your mirror.

One day you will roll out of bed and not recognise the face staring back at you in the bathroom mirror. There are parts of us we canāt help but leave behind as we go through the mundane, the fruitful, the spectacular and the heavy in life. We need to remember that sometimes life runs out of glitter and we need to see things as they are. That is called GROWTH. Just as you read this little bit here, you grew a little and you and I have contributed to yours and my growth.
Sometimes weāre just simply falling⦠Like those dreams where youāre falling from an airplane and the clouds are rushing past you but you never really splatter onto the ground below. Thatās FEAR. Fear of the unknown trying to own you. Donāt fall for it.
Take time to spend with yourself and cut yourself some slack by counting the achievements youāve managed so far. Start ordering your steps intentionally and taking your immediate future goals chunk by chunk. Take those free courses in skills you need to better function in your work and personal life. Make it all worthwhile.

ESTRANGED FRUIT
āIn my motherland, gay people are worth a pile of dry leaves. Their heads are cracked open like water melons and their hair thrown everywhere like steamers and confetti. Their voices are drowned by the crows that pluck their eyes out for breakfast while good people do nothing. Kings order death and destruction upon them like pawns on an incomplete chess board. I am of that branch but alien to the tree. I know for certain that my fruit is worth much and can sweeten the sour taste that many have come to know. I am off that tree but not of the ground it bestrides. I am love untarnished.
