Well, if you want a creepy story, okay. My friend's house is extremely haunted. I don't just mean there is a ghost there... I mean there are at least a dozen. There are at least six who reside in her room. Some of them are not friendly. If I sleep over at her house (which happens often) I sleep with a bowl of salt water near my head to ward off nightmares and banish evil/negativity around me. I usually wake up to the bowl covered in more salt than it started with and all water evaporated.

i'd been having such horrible dreams that my girlfriend gave me a dreamcatcher, but even that wasn't much help. so, i figured i'd combine it with a satchel.

banishing bad dreams

(bottom to top):

🌙salt- purifying, protecting

🌙rosemary- removing negativity, preventing nightmares

🌙anise seed- protection, preventing nightmares

🌙whole black peppercorn- banishing negativity, protection

🌙a juniper berry- banishes bad health, attracts good energy

🌙salt- purifying, protecting (a second layer to seal the ingredients and complete the banishing portion)

🌙lavender- protection, healing, sleep, peace (to finish the satchel with the clear intent of removing bad energy to allow for good)

of course, you should check up on your cleansing and wards, since their failure could be the source of your bad dreams! this satchel can definitely be used alone, but with a dreamcatcher it feels more like it absorbs negativity than wards it off. so you may need to cleanse it or remake it every so often. i paired it with a good dream spell, as well !!

they've been super effective for me, though they took a day or two to completely clear the negativity. a few weeks of it and i haven't had to cleanse my satchel yet; it feels almost neutralizing !

Things to put under your pillow for nightmares

Nightmares can be caused by several things. Stress, what you eat, unprocessed trauma (this is A LOT), spirits and astral attacks. Depending on whats going on in the dream, you can usually figure out which one is giving you nightmares.

Shoving things under your pillow is an old timey spell. (Tooth fairy anyone?) And if you’re having some shit quality sleep using a simple spell, like placing something under your pillow, is a good way to keep yourself protected, and nightmare free.

Agate - Helps you sleep. Balances your emotions and helps you fall asleep quickly. 

Amethyst - The healing powers in Amethyst help curb nightmares and insomnia. They also have the added benefit of balancing your inner energies that help you drift off to sleep easily. 

Black Tourmaline - I would recommend trying this stone out to see if it works for you. Black Tourmaline can dissolve negative energy and has protective qualities. Some people are really like BT for nightmares but other people can experience a sensitivity to the stone being near them while they sleep and can have the opposite effect. 

Smokey Quartz - Like a less intense Black Tourmaline, this stone has similar properties. It removes negative energy and has protective qualities. 

Rosemary - A really positive herb and naturally known to keep nightmares away.

Vetiver- Can be used to release stress. This herb has grounding qualities and is perfect for sleep and relaxation. 

Bay - A protective herb cleanses the space it lives in and banishes negativity.

To Banish Nightmares and Sleep Disturbances

You will need:

A drinking glass half-filled with tap water

Timing:

Just before bedtime

The spell:

Place a glass half-filled with water near your bedside.

Swirl it five times counterclockwise, taking care not to spill any and saying, “Nightmares, bad dreams, and feelings of dread, enter this glass and be held here instead.”

In the morning as soon as you wake up, whether or not you had a nightmare, pour the water down the drain.

Rinse out the glass and leave it in the bedroom ready to be filled before sleep the next night.

Nightmares Be Gone Jar

So, this is what I used to make a nightmares be gone jar for my best friend. She gets these really horrid and terrifying nightmares and I wanted to do something witchy for her.

Objects needed

Chamomile (I used a tea bag) - Relaxation

Jasmine (I used a tea bag) - Calm Sleep

Rosemary - Prevent Nightmares

Bay Leaf - To get the kind of dreams you wish for

Lavender - Peaceful sleep

Salt - Protection

Mint - Healing

Anise Seeds - Prevent disturbing dreams

Cloves - Protection

Basil - Dispel Fear

Oregano - Joy

Burn a candle of choice (I didn’t, I’m a very just toss it in and hope for the best kind of witch)

Stick herbs in a jar. Infuse with intent.

If you’re corking it and want to seal with wax, I suggest blue wax.

As always, herbs are optional. Pick and choose what you want/what you have on hand.

Pentagram Banishing Spell

What is the pentagram?

The pentagram, or five pointed star is one of the best known symbols of Wicca. A pentacle is simply a pentagram in a circle. Many use it as a connection to the divine, a talisman or to open and close circles. They can be used to open and close circles. The points represent air, earth, fire, water and the spirit.

Banishing Spells

Banishing spells can help you to move negativity from your life. They can also be used to remove negative spirits. Banishing spells can help you to regain control over your life.

What you need:

A cauldron or other fireproof pot

A black candle

Parchment paper and a pen

A wand (optional)

Cast your circle in accordance with your tradition and light your candle.

Say the following:

“Goddess, I seek your help in banishing this negativity from my life.”

Write on your parchment what is holding you back, or what you want to banish. 

Take your wand and in the direction of the picture below, trace the pentagram symbol over your parchment paper with your finger or a wand:

Light the parchment using the candle, and drop it into the cauldron.

Say the following:

“I will no longer be held by my negativity.”

As you speak, imagine the negativity leaving you and no longer being part of your life. Take a moment to visualise this and let it go.

Thank the Goddess.

Open your circle and let the candle burn out safely
