This absolutely beauty ( the Grant's Gazelle ) is the first ever animal form Dorcas ever took when bonding with her first ever witch, Sarah. It is also the reason Dorcas is named as such, as it is Latin for 'gazelle'.

Sarah was the one who named Dorcas, as daemons do not have names. Within daemon culture, it's not common to meet familiars with names. In fact it is frowned upon being named as then daemons shift from being familiars to being seen as pets. Something to be owned rather than be equals to the witch. Dorcas, however, will only give her name if asked if she has one. Otherwise she does not give a name, she does not willingly give it as it is special to her. It forever bonds her to Sarah, carrying a piece of her every day.

THINKING about how William, when he proposed to Tilly, told her that she'd never feel alone a day in her life. That he would always be there for her through thick and thin. That he died by her own hands because of his greed and want without consideration for her. THINKING ABOUT Alma promising Tilly that she'll never be alone and meaning it, staying by her every day. Despite having the time and freedom, despite Tilly never once forcing her to stay, Alma stays and Tilly isn't alone.

One thing to note about Dorcas is that she does not take up space. This stems from a daemon's innate sense of self preservation, sticking to corners and shadows where people are more likely to gloss over them in their original states. Shadows make it easier to hide in, to blend into the dark where they cannot be seen. They do not like to command attention to themselves because it is not what familiars are meant to do, even if their bonded individual has an outstanding personality.

In any animal form a daemon takes, they still do not take up space in presence, no matter what animal form they shift to so they may match with their witch. Daemons are familiars, extensions of their witch yes, but they still do not command attention to their presence. This is noted by often being so close to their bonded individual that you cannot distinguish where one ends and another begins, commanding all attention to their witch, instead. It may also take form as distance — sitting in trees, at the ends of beds, across the room.

This behaviour is built into daemons & their bonded individual may encourage their familiar to not be so far from them, which the daemon obliges. In Dorcas' case, she has an incredibly hard time breaking this cycle. It is harder to emerge from the shadows, to not hide herself away around corners, especially when she is not bonded to anyone. When a bond does occur, her behaviour may shift where she allows herself to not be so distant, both physically, mentally and emotionally.

I'm thinking about the designs of Velians & I caught myself thinking "oh I don't want people to think Brynnox is weird" and then I remembered that 1) she's not human, she's an android & 2) SHE'S AN ALIEN.

Thinking about how even though they are different creatures, vampires and werewolves are both deeply associated with the night but for entirely different reasons. Werewolves and their curse ties directly to the phase of the moon, only allowing transformations under a full moon. Vampires on the other hand are only able to come out safely in the night as the sun is deadly to them. And despite this, they're often portrayed as enemies. Thinking about how control is important to both species; control of bloodlust for vampires and control of their own self and autonomy for werewolves.

With Brynnox I do not desire her nor any of the other Velians to look exactly like a human does. I do not want to describe her & have someone think she's a human, the base of all Velians are human looking until you dive into their mythologies, biology and anatomy ( something I'll share eventually!! )

Run: Mahia runs toward the Matilda, frantically checking if they are okay. // @rubiesintherough !!

The wooden stake that had originally been aimed towards her heart had instead made a home in her abdomen. Matilda could feel the splinters of shoddily carved wood, could feel her body trying to heal around it. Once a white tank top bore the muddied stains of blood; hers. He lay at her feet, neck turned in an unnatural angle, eyes dull and jaw slack. Her hand grasped the protruding piece of wood as she could hear the frantic cries of another sharply. In one painful swoop, Matilda yanked the stake from her body, a guttural scream being torn with it.

It was agonising but she would heal. Her body would mend, methodically and swiftly as it always did, as if she'd never been injured at all. Her gaze lifted from the wood as it fell from her hand to Mahia — she'd ran, Matilda realised, all the way to her. She raised her hand before she could get any closer, bloody still dripping fron her jaws where she'd taken a bite of the man that had tried to kill her. An eye for an eye.

❝Stay there.❞ She warned. ❝I don't want to hurt you. I'm not....I need a moment.❞ A moment to heal. To calm down before she took her pain and anger out on someone else. Mahia deserved to be safe.

Refuse: Sender refuses to do something the receiver demands out of them, to protect them from the danger.

Motivate: Sender motivates the receiver as they notice that the receiver is losing their steam.

Answer: Sender asks the receiver if they would like to hear the answer to a question truthfully, or if they would like to say what the receiver wants to hear.

Remark: Sender remarks that they notice the receiver’s lying tells and demands the receiver to come clean.
