Emmy or Milque, she/her. Candle Cove art and headcanons, etc. Ran by @milqueskin. (My URL is a joke. I don't actually condone... whatever Emerson Grimes did)
Sunny and Dr. Heartfelt beef confirmed?! Jk, although it would be funny. I took inspiration from a drawing PirateJet (Candle Cove Wiki Admin) made for a moot’s q&a
I had a lot of fun drawing these, which ironically was at the hospital waiting room this morning, how fitting (I’m okay, I took a relative to their appointment and they’re okay as well!)
Also made a lil nod to the old Dr. Heartfelt design.
So! I've been working on this project for a while to put my headcanons and writings and character designs to use. I initially conceived this as just a wiki for my own interpretation of Candle Cove, but it's growing to have a story about the lost media search for the show as well. It's still really early and I'm sort of not sure where it's going, but we'll see! I'm just excited to have a project for me to practice my writing and drawing and web development all in one.
Okay so relevant backstory/worldbuilding: Sand Lands/Saloon City in my interp isn't a cowboy town, but rather a small island town that got literally buried in sand due to a hurricane or some other natural event, leaving it unlivable and abandoned.
Sunny, meanwhile, was on the run for some crime (or at least a crime she was accused of), and ended up making a secret home base in Sand Lands, digging out a room from one of the buried houses.
She became sort of a cryptid or legendary figure. Pirates and looters would go to Sand Lands, hearing stories of a whole town and all its riches being buried underneath, and then run into this tall, silent figure who starts shooting at them without warning. There are legends about her being a ghost of one of the people who died in the storm, whose spirit is doomed to wander the ruins and protect them.
I'm not really sure what her species is? I think I might just make her human and ignore the blue skin thing. I don't like having a lot of species to keep track of.
She shaved her head because it's more comfortable that way (due to the heat), but she kept it like that after she left Sand Lands because she grew to like the style.
She's silent partially because she really just DGAF, but also partially because she has an airy, feminine-sounding voice that she's insecure about. She would rather it if she sounded more tough.
The only people she talks to are Horace and Janice.
She seems to see Janice as a kindred spirit and is less mean to her than the other crew members.
She's really protective of her possessions and cabin. Not very many things piss her off, but the crew messing with her stuff or space is one of them.
Designated hunter of the crew because she's the best at shooting.
Has a very good memory, and also tends to hold grudges.
Nobody has seen her arms or knows what they look like.
She is the most useful person on the crew, but she is also self-interested and disloyal and wouldn't hesitate to just up and leave whenever she feels like she doesn't need to be there anymore.
I had an old idea where she's only part of the crew because she owes Horace a life debt, which I might keep?
Very tall and imposing (over 6 feet), and towers over most people despite having bad posture.
Little sprite / reference sheet for a Roblox game @panconatun777 's friend is making at the moment . I'm hoping it's actually good . Also I'm still writing out my essay it's just that life has been getting in the way .
I based the style off of strawberry shortcake ( 90s version ) and the chipettes from the 80s (?) chipmunks movie
So if you also take away the rps (actually don't since thats all we know about her) , how would your interps / ocs treat odette ? Especially with how she's being treated by other people (aka my poppy eating her , your starson literally eating Lamb for dinner , and Maria's Milo being the dad) 😈
Banana King would still treat her like she's his granddaughter despite his troubled relationship with Marie. (I see him as a guy who always wanted a big family but couldn't due to his career as a sailor 🥲)
Mort would treat her nicely enough even though he sort of thinks she's an affront to nature (he's a man of science, and so her being a lamb but having human parents doesn't make sense in his brain)
She and Starson would actually get along well. (Starson is more of a drama-causer in the RPs than he actually is in my interp.) If Milo and Sariah leave him to babysit, he'd take her shopping and stuff. (He would be such a good girl dad)
Spencer, unlike Mort, wouldn't be that weirded out by her existence, but would make their interactions awkward because she'd keep asking rude/invasive questions and suggesting that she do experiments on Odette
Miranda wouldn't care for her much/see her as an annoyance

So guys, my friends and I have a little Discord server where we talk about Candle Cove and post art and do a bunch of other stuff, come join us if you want 😁
I think it's really funny how, out of everyone on the Laughingstock Crew, Sea-Dog is the one who doesn't believe in Skin-Taker. Like, oh great, the talking dog who walks on 2 legs is gonna explain to us that something is too far-fetched.
Soooooo like if you remove the shit from the roleplays , or anything out of character from Marie , what do your interps / OCs think of her ? ( Like mort , Banana king , etc )
I don't think Banana King would actually like her much. Maybe he'd have a short period where he's on-again-off-again with her (he is sort of indecisive), but he's not stupid, so EVENTUALLY he'd realize that she's not good for him.
Mort would maybe flirt with her for fun (also to distract her and steal her stuff) but would run away if she ever shows legitimate interest
Starson would admire her style and poise and consider her a role model of sorts, but eventually realize that she's not someone to look up to. (But she would still be his problematic fave)
Miranda would be cordial with her, but wouldn't like her at all because she takes Earl's attention
Spencer would poison her food within 5 minutes of them first meeting
He's a homebody (too sleepy to go to the club) and so has made friends with Jojo and Banana King, who are also homebodies. Sanjay has the spirit of an old man tbh. He does like to go to the pub in the daytime though.
He's the only person in the Laughingstock Crew who actually likes Milo and will defend him whenever the others (usually Jojo and BK) talk shit.
Although he's friends with Percy too. He doesn't really take the beef between them seriously. He just hates drama in general. Like whenever Poppy goes on about how much he hates Horace and Skin-Taker and how he wants revenge, he'd go "Ughhhh just leave it aloooone, you're just creating work for yourself (and me)"
I think I posted about this before, but he has a heart tattoo with Milo's name in it. It's not like he and Milo are dating, or that Milo even knows of Sanjay's feelings, Sanjay just got it just because. (By "just because," I mean that he was really drunk.) He lives in constant fear that Milo will one day see it.
(He got it the same night he got his nipples pierced (which is canon btw, iykyk))
Correction: Sanjay THINKS Milo doesn't know of his feelings, but Milo totally knows and exploits this to get Sanjay to do chores and run errands for him.
Has a hard time going to bed at night because he takes too many naps during the day. (Or maybe he's tired in the day because he has insomnia? Hm...)
This is canon based on his wiki art, but he's left-handed.
Used to be a bartender or waiter at the Salty Sea, but he quit because dealing with the constant barfights was too exhausting for him. (He was wrong to think working for the Laughingstock Crew would be less exhausting.)
Later on, he and Sariah bond over being mistreated by Milo. They have similar chill personalities and actually get along nicely.
MY PROJECT
Alright, so this project is seeecret (kinda), so I'm not gonna spill too much.
Sanjay and Arty are the same person in this thing. I figured that since Sanjay didn't really seem like he fit into the Laughingstock Crew (there's too many people in it as it is IMO, plus he doesn't have a role or gimmick like the others), but had an appearance and fleshed-out personality, whereas Arty doesn't have either of the latter two things but DOES have a gimmick and a place in the story (because I wanna incorporate the Hogs Crew into this), it would be efficient to make them into one composite character. TL;DR he has Sanjay's personality and appearance but Arty's role in the Hogs Crew and his jack-of-all-trades gimmick. (Also, Sanjay MIGHT be named Arty instead? I'm not sure yet. I'll keep calling him Sanjay in this post for simplicity.)
He and Flaming Dragon (FD) are siblings. They're both British-Indian and they have sort of a "ball of energy + always tired" dynamic.
Before they became pirates, they worked at like a sideshow type of thing. FD was a fire performer and Sanjay was part of the stage crew. They also did thieving on the side.
Their crimes caught up to them one day, and while fleeing, ended up stowing away on the Laughingstocks' ship. Poppy took pity on them (because they reminded him of his and Milo's sibling relationship) and let them live there for a while.
He's a bit more serious in personality compared to my normal interp since he has a sister to take care of. He's still generally chill though.
They have a parrot named Barbarossa who only speaks in riddles.
Hai, I need Milo hcs pleaspleaspleaseslskplaldoekskdjdla
So Milo and Poppy are brothers, but they were never really that close in their early childhood. I'm thinking maybe they're either half brothers or stepbrothers who lived in different households?
So Milo's parent(s) died, leaving Poppy as the only family left to take care of him. Around this time, Poppy was about 15 and Milo was about 10.
Also around this time, Poppy was trying to join a crew, for either a merchant ship or fishing ship. He had no choice but to bring Milo along, which the captain and other crewmates weren't really pleased with, but Poppy was able to talk them into agreeing.
Milo did normal irritating rowdy 10-year-old boy things, but they were even more irritating because he was living in the close quarters of a ship where the crew couldn't escape his presence. No one liked him.
Milo was aware that his presence wasn't really wanted, and that he was seen as a burden by everyone, including Poppy. This is where his problems started to develop.
Poppy saw him as a burden in the sense that he was constantly worried that someday Milo was gonna get himself AND Poppy kicked off the ship. Plus he held a bit of animosity towards Milo, or at least didn't like how the responsibility of taking care of him was just dropped into his lap, as he was trying to make a life for himself.
So back to Milo. He knew nobody really cared about him or took him seriously, and so he learned that he had to do REALLY impressive stuff to get even a sliver of positive attention (or love), and this mindset stuck with him throughout his life.
And he also learned that negative attention was better than no attention. He would do stuff to piss off Poppy and the crew just so they'd stop ignoring him (and he was easy to ignore, in a crowded and busy ship like that). This strained the brothers' relationship even further, which led Milo to act out more, and so on.
He started doing petty thievery whenever the crew would dock. Jewelry, pocket money, that kind of stuff. He was greedy like Poppy, and he didn't have any nice things on that ship.
One day, Milo's crimes came to light, and then the captain wasn't having it, and told Poppy to either disown his brother or to leave the crew. Even though Poppy didn't like Milo all that much, he still had a sense of honor, and chose to stick with Milo.
The two of them ended up becoming pirates after this. They actually got closer to each other during this time and had a good relationship, because even though Poppy still held something against Milo at first for making him leave the crew, he no longer had to worry about Milo's antics losing him his job, and they suprisingly worked together well as a team. Poppy had seafaring knowledge, and Milo was actually very skilled and cunning when it came to thievery.
I don't know what the fight that led them to part ways was about. Could be anything with those two. I'll leave it as "Milo being Milo" for now.
Also, I don't think Milo's old crew literally deliberately got him arrested by the NPHC, but it was more like... they were trying to save their own skin, and didn't care enough to check that Milo got out of the skirmish too. (Milo probably saw it as them genuinely wanting him to rot in prison, though.)
I don't know the details yet about his time in Tartar Prison or how he escaped, but sometime after, he formed the Jolly Hounds with Black Chin and Henric. (Henric left eventually.)
I have the feeling that he chose his crew members based on whoever was seemingly more weird/incompetent/unpleasant than him, so he could look better in comparison. Because besides Black Chin, the crew is made up of (from his perspective) a random guy he found in the wilderness, an annoying fop, a bubbling detective, and some simpleton dockworker.
To him, Percy is an embodiment of everything Poppy did wrong to him. While Milo was in Tartar Prison, Poppy didn't save him, but instead replaced him with someone clearly weaker, more cowardly, and more undeserving of love and praise. But yet, confusingly, Poppy treats Percy with more kindness and respect than he ever did with Milo. It drives him insane, as someone who internalized the belief that love is earned.
(Mind you, Poppy was 15 years old when he became responsible for taking care of Milo, and in no way mature enough to take care of a kid, and was older and more mature when he found Percy, plus he and Percy don't exactly have a good relationship either, and I'm not even sure if Poppy knew Milo was in Tartar Prison, but this is nevertheless how Milo sees things.)
Even though Milo's issues are with Poppy, he takes it all out on Percy, seeing HIM as the problem, and thinking if he just got him out of the picture, by proving his own greatness and making Poppy lose respect for Percy (or, later, by killing Percy), Poppy will realize Milo HAS been worthy, and that he didn't deserve to be ignored and unloved all this time.
He sees his younger self in Janice. They're friends, partially because he knows it pisses off Percy. He also has complicated feelings about how Poppy is soft and caring towards Janice but wasn't towards him when he was little. Like, jealously. Feeling like this is unfair. Worried she could end up hurt like he was.
In my interp, Milo didn't actually join the Laughingstock Crew, but rather, the Jolly Hounds and Laughingstocks became allies of sorts, or part of the same fleet, and Milo just hung out on the Laughingstocks' ship sometimes.
Anyway, so after Milo almost killed Percy after their race, the Jolly Hounds mutinied, which was another blow, after Poppy had forsaken him. Skin-Taker targeted him at this weak moment. (Skin-Taker had been observing him and psychoanalyzing him whenever he and the crews dueled, as he does.)
Also, the main reason Skin-Taker went through the trouble of manipulating and recruiting Milo was just because he liked his skin and wanted it on his cape. The reason Skin-Taker didn't just kill him immediately was because Milo's skincare was atrocious, and so Skin-Taker had to spend a couple days explaining that he needs to moisturize and exfoliate, and also waiting for the effects to set in. He probably used some excuse like "My servants are a reflection of me and therefore they CANNOT be ugly."
