born in the heart of new york city, it was no surprise that emery developed a love for all things creative. drawing became her first love, right after she figured out how much more detail she could add to a page when she colored outside the lines. most of her life was spent with her sister and a nanny that was ever changing until they found one their father wouldn't give a second glance. the sinclair girls were taught to keep bettering themselves, that that was the reason their mother was never around instead of a crumbling marriage. her parents were still married to this day, though looking inside their "happy" home you'd find them in two separate bedrooms not wanting to entertain a scandal that would attach to the headline of divorce. every family had their issues, emery decided it'd be best to distance herself from all of them — starting with college. the blonde landed herself a comfy spot studying abroad in paris, france — she didn't care enough to know if her father had paid them off or they'd actually saw talent within her sketchbook, either way she'd gotten the escape she craved. there she met a man who seemed to adore her from the very moment they locked eyes in a crowded pub, vincent was everything her parents relationship was not until she found him ripping pages out of her sketchbook and whatever money he could pocket from her bedside table. emery didn't want to believe it, that the fairy tale she'd made in her head was just as fake as the relationship she'd seen her entire life. again she ran, throwing her sketchbook into her fireplace before using the last of her saved money to get her a flight — but not home. it's been five years since she'd talked to anyone from new york, instead she threw herself head first into everything cascade, california had to offer — she could thank the dart on the map for that. she's found a new form of art to love ... body art — well piercings and she didn't expect to love it as much as she does. though it isn't uncommon to spot the blonde doodling away on a bar napkin as she waits for the next round to arrive.

emery’s eyes were focused on the book in her hands, scanning over the text on the back to decide if it’d be her next purchase. the store was pretty empty, though she didn’t mind — it helped her to not feel rushed. she didn’t notice when the aisle wasn’t just hers anymore, not until the sudden crash of books hitting the floor. her head snapped up, eyes flicking over to the mess scattered across the ground before landing on the person responsible. “shit — are you okay?” she asked, already stepping closer and crouching down to pick up one of the fallen books. she hesitated for a second, glancing up at them again. “guess we both needed a distraction, huh?”

But, gotta tell ya: Assholes like that guy over there make that way fucking harder than it needs to be." Billy said to the person sitting next to him, whilst glaring coldly at the man in question, who was sitting at the opposite end of the bar from Billy himself. "I mean seriously, how can a guy be saying the shit he's saying and not get punched for it?"

she thought about his words for a moment for her head turned, honestly she’d been trying to ignore the man in question for the past couple of minutes. “in this case no one would blame you if you did — hell, you might even get a standing ovation.” em said softly, shrugging both of her shoulders. “you might have to do everyone a favor and turn over a new leaf tomorrow.” she laughed. “surely he can’t get worse, right?”

The morning finds Kyle at Redwood Roots, never quite at home in a supermarket, always subconsciously longing for the exit. He gazes dissociatively at the options in the cereal aisle: every other box offering more protein, more fiber, less sugar, less gluten, grain free, microplastics free and nuclear radiation free. Maybe if he checks the fine print it'll promise him more than 4 hours of sleep and a healed relationship with his parents. He sets his basket down (contents: a tin of dark roast coffee and a single croissant, not in paper bag) and gazes into the abyss de céréales.

He spots one single, non-pretentious, radioactively colorful box of cereal in the corner. As he moves to grab it, he realizes someone else is doing the very same. "Oh. You go ahead," he offers. He's in checkered pyjama pants, long ones tucked into his worn Doc Marten boots. The tshirt peeking out of his zip up hoodie reads, white print on black: Don't bully me I'll cum. And he most likely has forgotten that fact. He looks down at his shirt and then back up at the person, connecting dots. "My grandma knitted it."

emery walked into the supermarket with no plan, which always ended with her leaving with a basket full of items. she didn’t mind it, rather havinf a kitchen that was full of snacks rather than lacking something she was craving. her blue eyes landed on a box of cereal, not her usual pick, but something about the cute mascot on the front was drawing her in. the blonde pulled away almost immediately once she noticed someone else going for the same box, her head turning in his direction. “are you sure? i don’t mind looking for something else.” she told him, pausing as she followed his gaze to the text peaking out from his hoodie. “oh…that was grandma, huh?” she questioned, a laugh escaping from her lips. “and did she make that for herself or was it always intended for you?”

"Ooh, nah. I don't know about this one." He says after a visible grimace that coincided with the first taste of the Oreo slurpee he had chosen in an attempt to be adventurous rather than going with his tried and true Dr. Pepper.

her eyebrows raised curiosity at his statement, eyes traveling down to try and inspect the contents of his cup. there were a few things that brought emery joy in her life and free slurpee’s were one of them. “i went simple, yet delicious…cherry. what about you?”
