What a shame that FFXVI has some of the worst writing I've seen in a while. I expected a lot more from this team, but sloppy lore, lazy plot progression (a five year timeskip is just one of many sins), and the constant background radiation of implied sexual violence against women has thoroughly put me off the game. It feels like a chore to get through the increasingly lackluster story, to say nothing of how poorly the female characters are written. It's astoundingly bad.

The combat system is very fun and fresh, the game is pretty, and the music is fine, but I do not understand how it got glowing reviews. People mention the lack of diversity of course, since Yoshi-P's tired excuse for why he made Valisthea a white nationalist's wet dream got too much media attention to ignore, but it feels like lip service. The game has many glaring flaws, yet most of them go unremarked upon.

Maybe take a little less inspiration from Game of Thrones next time. You can do better than this.

Every time I see someone draw really gorgeous lady Hroth with leonine features, I get a little sad thinking about how they're not going to look like that in game. Based on the murals visible in Bozja, they're going to look closer to miqo'te on a femroe frame instead of a properly bestial model like their male counterparts.

Then there's the fact they were promised at the same time that male Viera were teased. At this point, I fully expect their release to happen with the next expansion, and I wish the devs had just been forthright in saying this, because we have heard absolutely nothing new about their development since then. I guess it would have looked bad if they told players to wait two more years after going back on their promise to stop gender locking races, so they left it ambiguous.
