Excuse my melancholia this morning, but how long now before he is forgotten? The awards season is over…save for the Tonys this summer, which might see one more tribute. His last moments on screen in some capacity will come and go before summer’s heat reaches its zenith. So how long will it be before he disappears from internet searches? How long before he is replaced on Tumblr by the likes of Adam Driver and Kylo Ren? How long before he is relegated to distant memories and occasional mentions during the interviews of other, lesser actors? I know we all vowed that we would keep his memory, his images, and his work alive forever. That his fandom would live…Always. But did we really mean it? Can we do it for more than a day, a month, or a year? Are we willing to?
I dare you to answer then prove it. It just might help this heart that can’t seem to completely heal and dreads the day when Alan Rickman disappears from Tumblr, Twitter, and our collective consciousness only to be trotted out on his birthday or death day. Give me real answers, not platitudes. I can handle it.
I’m afraid this is a fact of life: time goes on and the number of people still remebering an actor will decrease over time. Harry Potter will prolong this due to its immense popularity, but it will happen. Look at other actors that died some time ago and were very popular in their day (Cary Grant, Gregory Peck, Laurence Olivier, Audrey Hepburn, Katherine Hepburn). Some blogs are still dedicated to them, but not many. However, you and others can have that blog still dedicated to Alan Rickman 😀 (even if in 20 years time a young generation will say “Alan who?”).
I know what you mean he deserves some recognition for his part in the film industry i think there should be a special BAFTA for him nxt year as he has done some pretty good damn things for british tv he should be given something
