“Hey guys, I’ll catch up with you later,” she announced before they all departed. Erin turned to the younger girl, “She’s doing all right, considering all that’s happened. But,you know Ali, she’s stronger than she looks.”
❝ Yeah.. she's definitely tough. ❞ She agreed, looking away as if she were in deep thought. She hadn't really stopped thinking about Alison since she found out her friend was still alive. ❝ If she needs anything, if you need anything, I'm here. ❞
❝ Don’t be so morbid, Em. I just want one night where I can forget about all of this. ❞ It was true, it almost felt like her head was spinning with all the recent events. But she was Alison and she’d adapt and go on, like always. ❝ So comedy, then? ❞ It was a quick attempt to lighten the mood.
❝ Right. Sorry. ❞ She knew she had to watch what she said in fear that she'd say something to really upset Alison. Everything seemed to be a touchy subject. ❝ Comedy's perfect. Have you seen a film in there? ❞ She referred to the box of DVDs, as she joined Alison, sitting beside her.
"I’m doubting that, but if you wait longer it’s not gonna get better."
"You want someone to go with you? Maybe a little moral support?"
Under the circumstances, it would be a little weird Paige accompanying Emily to a doctor's appointment, but she wouldn't drag one of her best friends along.
❝ That'd be great, actually. Do you mind? ❞
"Then why am I hearing a violin in my backyard?"
"Who’s the fiddler on my freaking roof?”
❝ It's normal to hear things. What happened was big - of course it's going to be hard to get through it, but we're here for you. ❞
『 ϟ』— Fun trip. Aria resisted the urge to scrunch her face & throw a tantrum like a three year old that wasn’t allowed sugar before dinner. Her idea of fun was not treading through mud & getting flies stuck between her teeth — but she was grateful that Em was trying to drown out her recurrent Lady Macbeth thoughts by forcing her out of her comfort zone.
❝ You know, there’s an episode of The X-Files where Mulder promises Scully that they’ll have a fun trip to the forest. In the end, they almost die. ❞
She intended her words to sound humorous but her tone was so high pitched that she pictured glass shattering into a thousand tiny, lethally sharp pieces.
❝ —— That sounded a lot funnier in my head. I trust you, Em. I may not be the biggest fan of the whole camping thing, but I’m with you and that’s what matters. We’ll have fun. We will.❞
❝ Hey, but they didn't die, right? Almost. ❞
That, along with Aria's other remark, was also supposed to be funny. Maybe joking about death in their circumstances wasn't the best idea.
She opened up the boot of her car for the bags they would be living out of for the weekend. Taking hers, she settled it on her back. Emily had thought about taking her friend to the mall for a shopping trip, or inviting her to watch a movie at the theatre, but that was too close to Rosewood. She knew she had to force her away from the place all this darkness began.
❝ You're taking this whole camping thing better than Hanna would. I wouldn't hear the last of it if she had broken a nail or gotten a gnat bite. ❞

『 ϟ』— ❝ Umm, Em. You don’t sound so sure. ❞
Aria replied as her eyes darted to the sky for the mandatory raincloud check.
❝ —— I don’t want to get lost in the woods. A may be gone but that doesn’t mean some other psycho won’t find us and skin us alive for furniture. ❞
There was a nervous pause as she checked her hand for bloodstains — a leftover trauma from the night in New York.
❝ I really, really hope it doesn’t rain. ❞
❝ R e l a x - it'll be fine. This is a fun trip. ❞
Of course she wasn't sure, but showing her true feelings would far from help Aria.
She made her way over to the boot of the car for the very important bag she had packed for the occasion.
❝ I have a map and a compass. And I used to come here when I was younger. We'll get there just fine. ❞
Aria's check for bloodstains didn't go unnoticed. It pained Emily to see her friend struggling with this, especially since she knew exactly what she was going through. That's exactly why she was the best woman for the job of distracting Aria's mind.
❝ Hmmm.. okay. ❞ She got off the bed and made her way to the box Emily had pointed out. Alison began to dig through, all of them being classics— some more recent than others. ❝ So what are you feeling tonight? Drama, comedy, horror.. ❞
Emily watched as Alison made her way over, taking note of each facial expression as she sorted through the films. ❝ I feel like we're in a horror movie. ❞ She stated, upon hearing the final category.
"That A is still out there, Em. I’m not being paranoid."
❝ Aria, A is gone. There have been no texts, nothing since the theatre. ❞
"Well that’s good at least. Vicarious swimming. How is your shoulder holding up?"
❝ Honestly? I'm too scared to go and find out. What if I can never swim again? ❞
Erin turned away from the small group she was talking with and after recognizing her gave a slight smile, “Hello Emily.”
Emily walked a little closer to Erin, leaning in to ask her a very private question.
❝ How are you? How's Alison? ❞
Of course, her second question was more important to her.
“Believe it or not, Em, it’s happening. You and I always get stuck right in the middle of this why do we always have to do the dirty work?”
❝ Because Aria and Spencer always have some other problem they have to deal with. And we're pushovers. ❞
“I'm trying to say steer clear of strangers that offer you drinks. There are traces of diazepam in your system.”
Robb’s voice softens when he notices the f e a r in her expression. “If you’re worried, there are people you can talk to. There’s a confidential therapists office just down the hall. And there are a lot of precautions you can take to prevent it from happening again.”
She tried to produce words but, every time she opened her mouth, nothing seemed to come out. It was the shock.
After gathering her thoughts, Emily was able to urge something out.
❝ Are you sure? I mean, it could be wrong. Are tests ever wrong? ❞
❝ He’s actually letting people in now? Thank god. I’m about to go insane staying inside this house all day. ❞
She shrugged before glancing around her room. Her eyes fell back on her friend’s after she let out a sigh.
❝ I’ve had better days. ❞
❝ He's just looking out for you. ❞
She walked towards her friend, finding a spot on the bottom of her bed to sit on. Warmth filled her eyes; all she wanted to do was reassure the girl infront of her.
❝ Right - stupid question. It's going to get better. ❞
