Imagine, if you will: Michelle and Emily run away together at the end of season 7 to create a tour together. They work perfectly together at all stages of the process: brainstorming and planning the tour, organising logistics, choreographing and workshopping routines, booking venues, marketing and advertising, perfecting every detail.
Finally the tour is set in motion and it's the most exhilarating experience of Emily's life. Amidst constant travel, late night performances, and exploring new cities, Emily and Michelle grow closer than ever before. Being on tour with Michelle is a beautiful adventure, and Emily never wants it to end. She almost can't believe that this is her life; she has a job that she loves, which almost never feels like work, and she's doing it all with her best friend by her side.
There's just something about Michelle that Emily finds so captivating. Emily could watch her dance for a million years and never get bored. Even the small things, like how she looks in the morning before she's had her first coffee, or the way she grips the armrest during take off on every flight. Being with Michelle unlocks something within Emily that she never even realised she had closed off.
On the final night of the tour, Emily is messaging Nick while Michelle gets her hair and makeup done. Although she's started on a wonderful new path, a part of Emily's heart will always be with The Next Step, and she will always make time for Nick's updates on the studio.
When Michelle emerges, she goes straight to Emily, and they talk for a little while. Then she takes both of Emily's hands in hers.
"I just want to say I'm really proud of us, this tour has been amazing and I never could have done it without you. I don't actually know what your plans are after this, but I know wherever you go they'll be so incredibly lucky to have you." Michelle smiles.
And Emily's entire world comes crashing down.
Michelle is still talking, but Emily doesn't hear another word she says. It's all she can do to stay standing upright and keep a smile on her face.
So when Michelle suggested they create a tour together, she really did mean it. A tour. Just the one. How stupid was she, Emily thought, to think they would be working together for years to come. To think that 18 months ago, she was torn between two of her dreams, and now she would be left without either one of them.
She had thought she was finally on track to build a dream life for herself. Despite all the betrayals and injuries, heartbreaks and humiliations, Emily had truly believed that this time would be different. And once again, Michelle had torn out her heart and ripped it into pieces, completely oblivious to the hollow it had left in her chest.
