The Juliet Strap. Bridals best kept secret.
You’ll find them on most strapless bridal gowns, if the style allows for it, but you wont see much mention of them online.
I haven’t been able to find any tutorials, no explanation, just the occasional reference on a bridal site. Sometimes they’re wrongly called a waist stay, other times I’ve seen them called an elastic bustier, but Juliet strap is what we call them, and its less confusing. The manufacturers who make our dresses for us (I work with a bridal designer) have never been confused when we asked for a Juliet strap in a dress.
Its a wide strap of elastic thats sewn into the side seams and has a closure like a bra band. I’ve seen them up to about 8 inches wide, the one in the picture is about 3.
What does a Juliet strap do? It holds the front of the dress to you! If its wide enough, it will also act as a bit of a corset.
The strap helps hold the front up, and against your body. And keeps the movement of the front to a minimum. If you’re worried about a dress falling down, or not giving enough support in the front, its an easy alteration that will improve the fit. however, It works best with boning.
It would be the perfect addition to a bunny suit, or strapless dresses like Neo Queen serenity.
so THAT’S how wonder woman doesn’t fall out
OH MY GOD THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING .
Throwback to that one time Diana officiated a marriage (Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman #48)
I made my Baymax costume 2 years ago and just figure out a way to make it interesting again with lights
I did a quick costest for maka. The skirt is a little shorter than I would've liked and I still regret not getting the wig in a darker color, but i think people will know who I am
I figured out how to make a tie Next step: trench coat and boots
Wip: Maka Albarn cosplay I bought the shirt from a thrift store, got the sweater vest online, and I finished making the skirt a few days ago. I’m still losing my mind over how perfect this fabric is. In the next few weeks I need to figure out how to make the tie, coat, and boots/boot covers. I have plenty of time before ACEN so I’m not too worried.
Update on Bombshell Wonderwoman: I'm almost done! I have to finish the belt and figure out how to make the arm bands. I don't usually make prop/accessory heavy costumes so this has been an interesting challenge.
I'd been planning on making a Bombshell Wonder Woman cosplay for a while, then Simplicity suddenly came out with a Bombshell line of cosplay patterns and it seemed like fate. I’ve been following the pattern pretty closely, the shorts turned out wonderfully, but I hate the instructions for sewing the appliqué on the shirt. I’ve never done satin stitching before, but I should’ve known trying to sew 2 stretch fabrics together wasn’t going to be easy. I followed the instructions and my first attempt was a warped and messy, so i cut out the stitches and did some research. Tear away stabilizer is a life saver! Also, I’m an idiot and tried to sew everything in one line, but it looks so much better when I started new lines at the corners. I also went out and got special embroidery thread. It took a lot of time, but I’m glad I redid it.
I'm helping my friend make a league of legends cosplay, I'm trying to figure out the best way to attach the front piece, I've never worked with scuba material so I don't know how well it'll hold with fabric glue
