There are many ways to get involved to help prevent and bring awareness to campus rape and sexual assault.  Even though the greek community at Miami gets a lot of crap, this is something that shouldn't go unnoticed and casts the greek community in a positive light.

Women Against Violence and Sexual Assault (WAVES) is a women's organization on campus that that provides awareness and education to Miami University about issues surrounding rape, sexual assault, and sexual violence.  They have been nationally recognized because they won the national RAINN (Rape, Abuse, Incest National Network) Day multimedia contest with a video.  It's a great organization where you can spread awareness and come up with ways to prevent these things from happening to women.

Men Against Rape and Sexual Assault (MARS) is a student organization that recognizes that rape and sexual assault against women is not just an issue for women to deal with.  Their main goal is to educate men on the seriousness of the issue and to discuss ways in which to prevent these things from happening.  This organization is important in that it makes a strong point that rape and sexual assault against women is not an issue only meant for women, and that men should take on this issue as well.

A Miami University football player was taken into custody after being accused of rape.  They knew each other and he was checking on her because she had passed out drunk, and while he was checking on her he proceeded to force himself on her even when she said no, and continued to have sex with her.  When he was questioned, he denied having sex with her all together.  Then, the police uncovered a text that he sent to his friend the night of the rape that said to "throw away his underwear".  He then admitted to having sex with her, but not raping her.

In 2011, a former Miami student was allegedly raped, which could have been prevented if the university had taken action on the accused man for his previous violations towards this girl.  Two years before the rape occurred, the police investigated the accused man for secretly video taping their consensual sex, and then spreading it out without the woman's consent.  So when the woman was allegedly raped by this same guy, she filed a law suite against Miami saying that they didn't protect her because they didn't expel him when he violated her the first time.  Obviously we don't know the full story, but this was a situation where rape could have been prevented, but wasn't.

An undergraduate male student took it upon himself to create a flyer that was hung in the male restroom of his dorm that described methods of "how to get away with rape".  The listed methods were violent and disgusting.  It is no secret that Miami University has a high rate of on campus sexual assault and rape, so there was no question that this needed to be taken very seriously.
