HISTORY
he was born in america to two turkish parents. they moved back to turkey when he was 10.
they were pretty popular among various political parties, would tend to work with whoever had the favor of turkey at the time. he grew up going to parties surrounded by influential people, being paraded around like the golden boy he was to the family.
he has a younger brother, but he has a chronic illness that made it difficult for him to maintain enough energy to get done everything their father expected of their sons. his entire life, he has protected him with all of himself. his brother has always been his everything.
he went to a spy prep school right after he was told his parents’ real job, and their real expectations of him. at the time, he was excited for this. not realizing exactly what area of spyhood he was taking over.
he got into blackthorne at 18 because of his family’s connections. his father had gone there, his father’s father, ect. it was a legacy that only he could carry on. his brother only getting worse by the day.
the summer after his second year, at 19, he was asked by his father to follow through with a job for him. he wanted to see if he had a strong enough stomach. he didn’t, though he did the job. the following day he said goodbye to his brother in the middle of the night, promised him to take care of himself, and left turkey to go back to america. dropping out of blackthorne along the way. because he was 19, his father had no say about his attendance at school.
he kind of hopped around america and europe for a bit, meeting people and always having to say goodbye to them, as his father’s men were constantly on his trail, everywhere he went.
they eventually caught up to him in italy, forced him to come back home under the guise that his brother wasn’t doing well.
he died within a month of his return, and now the entire family legacy was on his shoulders. how could he say no to his crying mother? and the fact that they have video of him killing someone when he was 19 that could easily be reported to the proper authorities.
he enrolled back into gallagher to finish his education six years after dropping out. knowing now that he couldn’t run forever. what he doesn’t know, is that his brother was being slowly poisoned throughout the month to get emir to stay at home.
PERSONALITY
listen. he’s not happy to be there. but that doesn’t mean he’ll be rude to folks. he’s a good boy w good manners. he’s charismatic and makes friends and connections very easily.
he knows he’s attractive, he uses this to his favor, though it’s very rare he follows through with the flirting / teasing combo. he’s v oldschool when it comes to certain things.
litcherally the most stubborn person in the world i simply hate it
The moment Emir texts her to meet in the forest, she knows things are very bad. The last time they were there, Nur had her breakdown and she hopes it’s nowhere near that for him, hoping he just needs to be away from everywhere. She hurries through the forest, making her way to where they where last time, immediately reciprocating and wrapping her arms around Emir. “I am here. It’s okay,” she says gently. “I’m sure that’s not true. What happened?”
“i ruined christian’s life. twice.” he manages to say. his grip on her strong, everything he’s been going through the last month finally far too heavy for him to hold onto. she offered to be there, and she was the only one he could really trust with this. “and i don’t know how to help zane, how to make him feel better. things keep piling up and i don’t know how to stop it.”
“hey...” emir sat down beside landon. this is the first time he’s seen him since...well. “i uh- i wanted to check in. i’m getting zane a lawyer for the trial, i wanted to see if you needed one too.” any family of zane’s is his family too.
“That’s how it should be.” He just wanted to do the right thing, knowing that he could at least somewhat accept his mistake if he actually sat for it as long as necessary. However long it would take. “Okay, I believe you.” He turned around again, apparently as annoying awake as asleep in bed. He then moved to press yet another slow kiss against his lips, lifting his hand so he could place it on his cheek. “I’ll be fine. Jail’s not so bad actually. Better than summer camp,” he assured Emir, moving closer to hide his face in his neck. “And we don’t have to do math.”
emir gave into him entirely the second he kissed him, and those few moments were the first in weeks that he felt himself free of worry, or thought. he slid his hand to the back of his neck to keep him there for as long as possible, his brow furrowed slightly when he pulls away, though he’s quick to laugh. it’s a quick exhale more than a laugh, but a laugh all the same. “well if there’s no math, it sounds like utopia,” he teased. “i looked around the area of the jail. there’s some houses for rent, so i could come visit you. get a job in the area.”
the way he sat down on the bench isn’t too comfortable, but he doesn’t want to shift around like a child, so he simply crosses his legs, barely touching his food. “ the job you took from your father, ” he starts, looking down at the slab of concrete in front of him, because he’d be damned if emir catches even a glimpse of sympathy from him, “ when did it take place? ”
“about three years before i met you.” he looks at nico then, trying to get any semblance of emotion from him. though he wasn’t surprised to see he wasn’t showing much.
Zane sighed deeply, appreciating every single thing he was doing for him. He felt safe here, he really did. However, he felt a bit too far gone that he doubted ANYTHING Emir was going to say was going to persuade him. His mind usually jumped places, changed opinions within breaths but .. just this time, he was set on something. “I just don’t want to cheat myself out of this like they do in .. movies and stuff. I don’t want a lawyer who manipulates everyone to think I haven’t done anything - because that’s not true,” he explained, gulping slightly. “I just want to get my sentence .. and accept it. I’m guilty - and I shouldn’t even be here right now.” He was grateful for being bailed out .. it just made him feel even more guilty. “Ask him about it. I’m not making decisions for anyone else.”
“at this point, you’ll get a sentence no matter what.” he’d been told that on the phone. multiple times. because emir wouldn’t accept this. “the lawyer’s just there to make sure shit runs smoothly.” he holds him a little closer, kissing his cheek. over and over and over. he refused to admit he’d fucked up when he bailed zane out, because he knew he did the right thing in that. “i’m gonna be here, okay? through all of it.”
after leaving christian, emir had only one place he felt he could go. he didn’t want to overwhelm zane with this, not with everything else going on. and his mind was far too focused on what-ifs to be able to be there for him properly. so, he texted nur. asking her to meet him in the forest, where they’d had their last talk. as soon as he heard her footsteps, he turned towards her, and wrapped his arms around her. “i keep fucking up, nur. i keep fucking up.”
sulking was what emir did best. especially when everything felt too overwhelming to handle. he stopped going to classes, ignored his parents’ calls, ignored everything. all he wanted to do now was hide away with zane, but sometimes even that felt too heavy on his chest. so, he decided to spend some time alone. outside. in one of the gardens. he sat there eating his sandwich, and when he heard footsteps, he hardly even looked up. though he was quick to dry any of the tears that had stained his cheeks in his time alone with his thoughts.
Christian immediately stands up and walks closer to the cell wall separating him and Emir, when the latter shows up distressed and in tears. Frankly, he didn’t expect him to pass by, because why would he? Considering everything. Cecilia had told him, too, that it was Emir that had exposed her. He’s even more surprised he’s apologizing. When Cecilia yells at his friend to fuck off, Christian waves his hand at her dismissively. “Pipe down, Casiraghi.” He’s literally not in the mood to deal with her, not now of all times. There’s nothing enjoyable about having to talk to Emir with an audience, and wishes more than anything that this conversation be done privately. Unfortunately, this is not possible right now. “Hey, I’m alright, yeah?” He’s not, but Emir doesn’t need to know that. “There’s nothing to be sorry for. I should be the one apologizing, for fuck’s sake.”
he knew he’d see cecilia there, he knew she’d be mad, and he didn’t give a fuck. he didn’t even look at her, not as christian got closer to him. he was all he could focus on right then. his mind moving in a million different directions as he tried to figure out how he could get him the fuck out of there. he looks around at all of the other people there for a moment, trying to figure out what he could and couldn’t say. “you don’t have anything to be sorry for. i know you didn’t..” want to do this. be any part of this. he knows his friend well enough to piece some things together. “i just wish i’d known. i could have protected you.”
“I’m .. barely that cool.” Light attracted him the same way moths did .. but he couldn’t fly and despite dressing like different cool bugs, he barely felt that easygoing anymore. Like you were just flying from one source of light to another with your one brain cell, it felt like the life to live. He still felt like things were okay again for the split moments his lips met Emir’s .. but then he felt like he didn’t deserve it again the second one of them pulled back. So he turned his back towards him, grabbing Emir’s arms to pull them around him tightly. He still didn’t want to let go completely. He just didn’t want to feel okay when nothing was. “ - Have you ever asked me if .. I actually want a lawyer ? To be taken care of ? ”
his question sent a pang of pain through his body, wrapping his arms more tightly around him. afraid that if he let go, zane would disappear forever. “no. but you need one. even if i didn’t get you one, the state would give you one, so it’s better if it’s someone we trust.” he kisses his shoulder then, an attempt to try to ground him. “it was an accident, zane. it doesn’t make you an evil person. and you already admitted to everything, so all that’s left now is figuring out what’s next.” a pause. “do you want me to get one for landon too?” he knew how much he meant to him, and at this point, whatever zane needed or wanted, he would do.
he thought he had done the right thing. protected and defended the ones he loved by turning in one of the people who hurt them. but he’d only made things worse. by helping one person, he ruined the life of another. of his brother. it seemed no matter what good emir tried to do in his life, it only ever just bit him in the ass. every event of the last year played back in his mind, over and over again. how could he have known? were there signs before this? why didn’t he press further as to why christian was here? he made his way to where he was being held, eyes focusing on him immediately, and the tears coming soon after. “brother...” he took a deep breath. “i’m so sorry.” the heartbreak was evident in his expression. there would be no fixing this. he ruined christian’s life. again.
nico’s become quite the expert with dishing out apologies over the past year or so, but he’s not so effective when it comes to emir. gaze drops to the folder momentarily, wondering if this was a mitsake, but he resists the urge to roll his eyes. “ i mean, it’s done. i’ve just done it. ”
he can’t help but laugh. this was both what he’d expected from nico, and not what he expected at all. “thank you.” he stands up and takes the folder. “lunch then.” they walk to the dining hall and get food to eat outside on a bench, emir knowing their conversation was probably going to be something neither of them wanted others to know about. “so. is there anything specific you wanna discuss or?”
– “BUT YOU NEVER WANTED TO WORK FOR YOUR FATHER, DID YOU?” as long as aylin can remember, emir has been so adamantly AGAINST this, while aylin has dreamed of it all her life ; she’s wanted to be just like her mother, to follow in powerful footsteps. she’d embraced her fate while emir had tried to stop it. “ so, you never…you didn’t want to kill him, ” these words come out so quiet that aylin can hardly hear them. she knows murder comes with their profession, but she’d always believed that it came with the element of choice. “ if they believed you were so capable, why did they send you here ? to gallagher ? ” her eyes widen suddenly, she knows she’s already asked him a big question, but she can’t resist another : “ do my parents know about this ? ”
“i used to think i did, because it was what was expected of me. i didn’t know what else there could be. and the older i got and the more i saw, the less i thought i fit the life. and then that happened and my entire existence felt...suffocating.” there was no other way to describe it. and they were never things he’d expressed out loud before, so it took him a moment to start any new thought. “i didn’t. i don’t want to kill anyone. ever.” a breathy exhaled laugh at her next question. “who knows. to teach me a lesson? to stop me from running away again? to see if i still have the same skills i used to?” at the next question, he shrugged. truthfully, he’d kept his distance from the social aspects of their life, not wanting to rope himself into any other conflicts than the ones involving his own family. “i don’t know. and i don’t think i want to know.”
“I’m sorry I did this .. to everyone.” He didn’t only feel guilty because of what he had done, it was the fact that he wasn’t going to be the same person anymore like this - and he’d knew he’d hurt even more people or was going to be a bother like this. He wanted to be the guy who was there for Emir, not in a protective way per se but the one who made him smile and just someone to go to whenever the other was having an awful day. Lately though, it felt like he was the complete opposite of that, just bringing darkness with him anywhere. Emir didn’t deserve that. “ You did ? ” The male whispered as he looked up at the other. “I haven’t seen one of those in so long.” Not like he had much time to pay attention to the simpler things in life anyway. “I’m glad you got to see it. Probably made you feel better right away.” Maybe he was just projecting here.
truth be told, even in these darker days zane’s presence was a calming one for emir. as shit seemed to pile up on them both, it seemed that the home they had found with each other was their only constant. and even if they were torn apart for a period of time, emir would continue to be there. zane was his person, he’d known that since he was six years old. “it did. because it reminded me of you.” he runs his thumb across his cheek before kissing him again, desperate for any sense of closeness with him. “we’ll get through this, okay? one day at a time. i already got you a lawyer. a good one. he’ll make sure you’re taken care of.”
“Well, I am not here to get you talking. This is entirely up to you. If you want to talk, there is no set way to do this, and if you don’t, we will talk about something else,” she reassures him with a soft smile. “We are okay. Your past won’t change our friendship. It won’t change Emir Yilmaz for me. I trust you with my life.”
her words ring through his chest and calls him to attention, looking at her with a softened expression. he has no words to say to this, trust and commitment being one of the most important traits in any of his friendships and relationships. there isn’t even a moment of hesitation before he closes the space between them and wraps his arms around her. pulling her in close as if his entire world depended on that touch. “you don’t know how badly i needed to hear that.”
– HER BROW KNITS TOGETHER, trying to make sense of the information that emir is laying out for her. “ what do you mean…forced ? ” aylin asks tentatively, still keeping her distance as she folds her arms over her chest. “ someone made you do it ? how come ? ” she feels like she still has so much to learn about the horrors that all of her friends have gone through before attending gallagher, so many questions ; but she is less naive than she was once, coming to terms with the fact that her friends and even aylin herself cannot live their lives in black and white.
he sighs out in defeat, trying to gather his thoughts. this was never something he’d had to talk about before, never something he had to explain. the last time he explained what happened was years ago, drunk on a rooftop with christian as they bonded over the trauma their families put them through. “i had to prove to my father i was ready to work for him. if i didn’t do what was told of me, i was told i would regret it.” and that was a very big threat coming from his father. “they recorded me doing it. and they use that as blackmail to keep me working for them.”
Things have been going downhill pretty quickly. He doesn’t know what he can do to help his friend, especially when Zane was taken away. Though he knew that he was back, too. “Think that’s the general theme of being in Gallagher,” he says. “Christ - why would he do that?” He sighs. “What’s going to happen next?”
“guilt. probably. i don’t know. i think he thinks it’ll make things right. but it won’t. ‘cause not only is cyrus still dead, but he’s now also going to be in jail and not with me. when he could have easily lied, no way would that notebook have held up in court.” he’s just venting now, letting out the frustrations he couldn’t let out to zane. “i already got him a lawyer. who knows what that’ll do at this point.”
