Found a mini sketchbook from my art foundation course. I wanted to create mould so I made mouldy green bread and a huge flour canvas with raw eggs in that I left in the studio to go mouldy. Ah memories!

Carers Break Animation Workshops.

I’m so happy to be working with people from the Carers Break Group again. Last time we did Computer Basics, but this time it’s Animation! The carers are joining me for 6 workshops at QUAD as respite time to relax away from their full time responsibilities.

On this particular session we are making 2D cut-out animations to help  understand the basic principles of stop-motion animation. People generally think that you need expensive equipment but that’s not the case. With a cheap web cam and inexpensive software like I Can Animate, or even your smart phone, its easy to create a little film that looks great.

The character above is a sample I made to help demonstrate the making, creating backgrounds and filming process. I use pre-cut jointed figures for ease and to take the stress away from people who are scared of drawing.

I’m looking forward to seeing what they create.

Took my Pentax with me on a weekend away into Derbyshire. These are the few decent ones that came back from processing. I admit I have tweaked a few to bring out the colour...

After speaking to a member of staff at London Road Community Hospital about the eerie, derelict parts of the building she told us about a similar hospital. The Cambridge Military Hospital closed in 1996 due to maintenance costs and asbestos. Here are some images taken from a blog.

The Derby Makers and lots of other keen knitters worked so hard to create a fantastic display of games inspired knitted pieces to yarn bomb the railings on Cathedral Green.

From the success of the Derby Mini Maker Faire the group lead by Anne Clark created a mountain of knitted dice, balls, snakes, ladders, chess pieces and much more! The display was part of Derby Festé and a chance to show of our skills to the crowds on Saturday.

A massive well done to all involved, it looked amazing!

I was very lucky to go to the Paralympics for work (yes work) with 2 lovely young lads, Jed and Jacob. The boys have been part of Journals, a project I am working on with The Mighty Creatives. It's about young people documenting the London 2012 Games as journalists to create films, blogs etc. Their task in London was to capture thoughts and action of the Games. After a few run ins with security, the boys managed to get some super sneaky footage of the wheelchair basketball in the North Greenwich Arena. Outside the venue, Jed and Jacob got some great interviews for the film with a union jack clad family, a Radio 5 live broadcaster and a very excited (slightly crazy) Australian lady! 

It was a really long couple of days but we had an awesome time. It was really nice to work with such chilled out young people (proper term!) and it not feeling like work at all! I hope to work with Jacob and Jed not just with the completion and promotion of their film but on future creative projects.

Last weekend I was very lucky to be part of a friends wedding as the florist. Vivian told me the flowers she liked and the style of the wedding and left me to it. This was great as there was very little pressure to get the exact colour of flower, stick to rigid floristry rules- I could have a bit of fun! My super star Mum helped me so much over the 3 days leading up to the big one. She made up all 18 teacups for the reception table centres as well as keeping me calm.

I managed to get a few photos, but as always in the last minute rush, I forgot to capture the table centres and AMAZING delphiniums.

As part of Vivian's wedding festivities I was kindly invited along to her hen do last Saturday. The morning after, a little worse for wear I went along to Paint a Pot with the girls I'd drank and danced with the previous night. I chose a nice simple mug and set out to create a starry design channeling Emma Bridgewater/ Cath Kidston. The finish product along with the other pots will be on display at the wedding in a couple of weeks. As a present from all of us, we each had a message painted onto a hen for Vivian.

I took a wander around the Royal Derby Hospital ( @julietatair ) to take a look at their current visual arts exhibition Behind The Green Door. Green Door Printmaking Studio, Derbyshire's only open access artist studio is a space focusing on environmentally sound printmaking. 7 artists from the studio have come together showcasing their craft and influences to subjects from grand cathedrals to jumpers. I very much recommend that you take a walk around the corridors to discover these beautiful prints and parts of the hospital you may never have ventured to.

Using a new app called Diptic. You can split up collections of photos with borders, change the style of the images and then export them. I hate that you can only upload one photo at a time using the Tumblr app, but using this I can blog more than one photo! These images are from the Fabulous Places event at The Roundhouse last weekend.

Nice image from the @Tate blog posts for Work of the Week, by Jeff Wall. The work is called A Sudden Gust of Wind (after Hokusai), Hoksuai being the Japanese artist famous for woodblock prints such as The Great Wave off Kanagawa, and of course Travellers Caught in a Sudden breeze at Ejiri, which is the work being reinterpreted here.

Excited to be employed as a florist for a friends wedding next month. She has chosen a vintage theme and has been rummaging in charity shops for sherry glasses, tea cups and decorative vases. We're visting the wholesalers next weekend to have a look at the flowers she would like to use. The reception will be held at Masa, we're hoping to go along so that I can get an idea of what kind of arrangements she'd like in the venue. Very exciting!
