Caught onlooking at James and Lily during their wedding, Emmeline thinks of how it took so long for the two to get together.

"Then why did you do it?â she growled.  For Marlene, things were always black and white, never anything in between.
Emmeline stayed silent, she knew there was nothing she could say to calm Marlene down. She needed it to blow over with time, only then could they perhaps be good friends again. "I don't know.."
â No. Iâd still not prefer it. Find another. â
"Hmmm..Well, there are too many of you Blacks to make a nickname from that and Regulus doesn't have many apart from Reggie. How about Lus? Or Reg? or Regulugy?"Â
Patronus || Sirius + Emmeline
"I had a bit of an inkling," Sirius replied with a grin. After Padfoot, itâd been a logical next step, although it hadnât stopped the sensation of pure joy heâd felt finally seeing it come to fruition.Â
He nodded back, thinking the memory might be strong enough. Christmas had been bloody wonderful, the best holiday heâd ever had, and he thought it was a good choice. He held his breath when Emmeline successfully cast the non-corporeal Patronus, and he was about to whoop in encouragment when she abruptly stopped the spell.
"No, no," he said, hurrying over to her. "You have to keep trying, dig into what makes the memory. Dig into the roots of it, pull it out, thatâs what you need.â He shook his head, gesturing at her wand. âTry it again.â
"How?" She asked him, confusion all over her face. She didn't understand how you could dig further into a memory to its foundation. "How do I find the roots of it all? I mean, how much further do I go apart from remembering everything and how I felt?"Â
Emmeline shrugged and itched her elbow waiting for him to show her. She knew she needed to persist with this. After all, with the dire situations outside - and from what Mundungus said, inside - it was vital she was able to cast one. She thought about the conversation earlier with the badger and lifted her wand again. Drawing circles with her wand, she tried again. This time, she relived the memory, the feeling of happiness, the knowledge that her friends were safe, the senses. To her surprise, there was no bright flash of blue escaping her wand. Instead, it was replaced by a medium sized rough border collie that lapped around the room. Immediately, Emmeline grinned. Finally, after the whole of summer and ten minutes with Sirius, she was able to cast a corporeal patronus. She turned to Sirius cheerfully, "Well, guess you should take over teaching DADA."

And then her fist uncurled and the flat of her palm met Emmelineâs cheek, the calm breaking at âWe didnât know what we were doingâ, her mask cracking as she glared at her so-called friend.  âLike hell you two didnât. Bitch,â she growled.
Emmeline took it. She deserved it, she had broken every rule of girl code. Especially when she knew how much Marlene had liked Sirius. "I'm Sorry." She said apologetically. "I didn't mean to hurt you. Honestly."

Time seemed to stop as Marleneâs ears started buzzing, a tingling filling her body, making her limbs numb.  No.  Emmeline hadnât said what she thought sheâd said.  She was Emmeline.  Sirius wouldnât â he and Marlene â Emmeline wouldnât â She realized she was holding her breath, her hands balling into fists as she glared at her in disbelief.  âDid you or didnât you?â her voice was oddly calm compared to the sea of emotion within her â anger, jealousy, hurt â and she was surprised when it didnât waver, when she didnât cry.  âMay have is a fat load of bollocks.â
Emmeline bit her lip, of all things, she didn't expect Marlene to be so calm. This wasn't the girl she knew, Marlene was the one with the emotion, the temper, the fight. It just made Emmeline feel so much worse seeing her react this way. "It....It just happened. We were so drunk, we didn't know what we were doing" She said hanging her head in shameÂ
Emmeline hungover as hell. A rare sight in the Gryffindor dorms.
"Mmm," he hummed, thinking the situation over. It was true that he was putting Emmeline up to the task to save himself from probable possible injury, but he found it difficult to feel much sympathy. He was safe at the moment, so he felt little reason to worry. âGood luck, Vance,â he said frankly, starting to step back towards the door, concluding their discussion was done.
"My word hardly means a thing," he said, rather surprised Emmeline would think that, "Everyone knows what sheâs like, but that doesnât mean much." Mundungus knew things about the students of Hogwarts, but out of all the deep dark secrets heâd come to learn, only the smallest whispers about Bellatrix Black kept him up at night. "Then donât let anything happen. I donât like doing things due to a lack of options, Vance." he said, giving the girl a cautionary glare.
Emmeline shifted under his glare, there was always something about Mundungus that unnerved her. He wasn't a bad person, but he wasn't exactly a good person either. She couldn't figure him out and it made her weary. She sighed and leaned against a desk "But with something like this and with someone like her, I'm going to need as many back up plans as possible."

"Unless youâve gone and killed my mum, I donât see how Iâd end up hating youâŠwhat did you do, you cheeky minx?"
"No no, you're mum is still very much alive. But..." She paused, mentally preparing herself for Marlene's reaction. "I may have.." Oh Merlin "SleptwithSirius" she mumbled quickly avoiding her roommate's gaze.
Mundungus rolled his eyes, âYou really believe Iâm a half-wit, donât you,â he said, shaking his head slightly, âI donât have proof, Vance. All I know is that sheâs doing research on the spells. I have no idea why, which is where you come into play,â he finished, directing a pointed look at the girl. âYou Gryffindors are always so eager to jump headfirst into everything,â he stated with a sigh before beginning to explain, âIf she realises others are onto her plan then sheâll make it all that much harder to prove. So keep your mouth shut.â
"You're word should be enough. This is Bellatrix we're talking about. Dumbledore knows what she's like." She paused and thought about what he said. He was right in a way, what if Dumbledore couldn't do anything and Bellatrix caught wind of what they were doing. It would be too large a risk. "Fine. I'll keep my mouth shut but I'm going to need you to vouch for me if something happens to me. You're the only other person who knows what is going on."Â

"I do, actually; âs not like you to be the one sneaking off.  Thatâs usually me.â
"Yeah, I guess it just sort of happened..."
"Listen..if I tell you something, will you promise not to hate me?"
As Emmeline tugged him into a classroom, he could barely keep from smirking, the excitement of the girl acting just how he had hoped bubbling to the surface of his demeanor. He had her right where he wanted. He quickly set a stern expression as she turned to ask him the pointed question, âCompletely sure,Vance. I heard it straight from the snakeâs mouth.â
"Why did you not go straight to Dumbledore?" She questioned him fiercely, refraining from shoving him. The anger within her began to bubble and seep it's way to the surface but she remained calm, breathing slightly heavier. What type of person was Bellatrix if she went round boasting she was planning Unforgivables? It wasn't even that she and Mundungus were friends. Someone had to stop her and if she had to live with being the one to rat her out, Emmeline would gladly do so. "Screw getting information for you Fletcher. I'm going to Dumbledore."

"Where were you the other night, eh? I noticed you never came back to the dorm.  Were you sneaking about with a lad?â
Emmeline laughed nervously. "I..er..don't you want to know, eh?"
"Mmm," he hummed, unimpressed. He pressed his lips together and thought over his words. How much can he let her know? "Sheâs planning something," he said, casting away a look down the hall. They were alone. A small smirk curved his mouth as a plan formed and he turned back to the girl, flat expression firmly in place again. "It involves the Unforgivables," he said, "but you didnât hear that from me, Vance."
Emmeline pursed the lips at the words Bellatrix Black. Planning. Unforgivables. If what Mundungus said was true then something had to be done but there had to be evidence. Evidence before it was too late. She grabbed the badger's arm and dragged him swiftly to an empty classroom. "How sure are you on a scale of 1 to 100, Fletcher?" She said sternly. If she was going to do this, she had to know that jeopardizing her life was worth it.
Patronus || Sirius + Emmeline
"Isnât he bloody brilliant?" Sirius asked proudly. Hell, if she could only see Padfoot in all his glory⊠but for Remusâ sake, heâd never let that happen.
After the patronus had properly disappeared, he slid his wand back into his pocket and turned to face Emmeline. âItâs the memory - itâs all about the memory. Everything comes from it, all the strength, all the casting ability. It takes a lot out of me still, but I couldnât get the corporeal version at all until I had it. You have to really dig into it with everything.âÂ
It would be harder, of course, if she didnât have one particularly strong memory, but given how much happier Emmelineâs homelife had been, he really thought there was something in her memories she could use. That, or theyâd need to create a new memory. âDo you have any idea what memory would be strong enough?â
Emmeline hummed in agreement. "He is indeed. Did you ever think he'd be your patronus though?" She asked him honestly with her father in mind. His own was of a dolphin which had surprised her. She never would've chosen such a docile creature for her father and to this day she still thought a fox would've been more suitable.
All she could do was nod to everything Sirius was saying. She had heard it all before, it was like a broken record player. When he asked the needed question she stayed silent for a while contemplating her thoughts. "Perhaps...last Christmas with all of us at James' place?" She said hesitantly, it was by far one of the best Christmases she'd ever had. The whole lot of them tightly squished around the Potter's dining table with the muggle decorations made it all so merry and festive. But she doubted it was enough for herself to cast a corporeal.
She took out her wand and began to circulate her wand, mimicking Sirius' earlier actions. Â Thoughts of the party began to flood her mind as she revisited all the sense that it had evoked. The smell of the turkey, the feel of the large christmas crown on her small head, the sound of them all laughing and talking. However, all that happened was a large blue cone of light shining from her wand and around the room. Abruptly, she ceased the spell, knowing it would not be able to transform into what she wanted it to and sighed in slight frustration. "Guess that didn't work then."
