Love in Red Dust (红尘四合) is an upcoming Chinese historical romance and revenge drama starring Wang Xingyue and Xu Ruohan. Adapted from the novel Hong Chen Si He by You Si Jie, the 34-episode series is set to stream on iQIYI.

Tentative release date 21/08/26, I don’t know what it is about Wang Xingyue, man does historical armour and ponytail to the max. I’ve only ever seen Xu Ruohan in The Best Thing so I’m eager to see how she does in a historical.

Chasing Dreams (梦花廷) is an upcoming Chinese historical romance and political drama starring Chen Zheyuan and Zhang Jingyi. It features 38 episodes, is directed by Yang Huan, and is slated to stream on Tencent Video.

Obtained distribution license in April, still no confirmed release. Come on Tencent stop holding this one hostage, the trailer looks so good. I’m a die hard Zhang Jingyi fan so I’m keen to see her shine in this one.

The Road to Glory (Chinese: 归鸾, Gui Luan) is an upcoming Tencent Video historical romance and political drama starring Zhang Linghe and Jelly Lin Yun.

Zhang Linghe in a historical romance? I’m sat. Not you typical historical set up either so I’m VERY interested.

Where the Mask Ends is an upcoming Chinese historical romance and political intrigue drama series starring Tian Xiwei and Yan An. It is adapted from the web novel Jia Jin Chai by Xiao Jia Ren.

My girl Tian Xiwei is going to devour this role, if you haven’t seen the trailer I advise you to go take a look. She is absolutely savage and I’m ready for it.

Dancing with the Tide (Chinese: 何不同舟渡; pinyin: Hé bùtóng zhōudù) is an upcoming Chinese historical political and romance spy drama starring Tan Jianci and Lu Yuxiao. It is adapted from the web novel Why Not Cross the River Together by Xian Yu Ke.

This one’s gunna be 2027 and I can’t wait. The trailer has us all entranced. Disgraced general black flag and street smart poor thief. Yes please Mango TV.

Spring of the Blade (一瓯春) is an upcoming Chinese historical romance and political revenge drama series starring Xu Kai and Zhou Ye. Adapted from the novel Yi Ou Chun by You Si Jie, the 30-episode series will air on iQIYI.

Episode 24 Key to the Phoenix Heart spoilers.

So although Li Mao catches Jiayu, she’s clever and manages to escape. She send a message to Wuyi to warn him not to return to the capital as Li Mao wants capture him, condemn him and seize control of the army.

Jiayu then plots to try and save Xiao mom, dad and brother but unfortunately fuckboy regent anticipated this.

Home what?! Has he been smoking a turtle. He cannot be fucking serious.

Anyway, Wuyi sensing that Jiayu was gunna do something crazy has chosen not to remain in hiding but to come and save his wife. And that combat scene was

Xiao Wuyi is pissed. He has tried to prove countless time he does not want the thrown, he has renounced his old identity, saved Li Mao countless times and even forgiven him for torturing him. But as they say, fool me once shame on you… fool me twice shame on me.

We end the episode with this exchange.

All I can say is…

But I am confused as shit became the very first scene of this episode is this.

So either Li Mao is a complicated freak, obsessed with beating Xiao Wuyi, but it’s only satisfying if Wuyi is around to experience it. Or this is some seriously heavy duty act so that Wuyi can infiltrate Northern Qin under the guise that he is a fugitive of Ye and hates Li Mao because he’s killed his family and stolen his wife.

Spoilers for Episode 24 of Key to the Phoenix Heart.

So to summarise, at the start of the episode it seems like Xiao Wuyi and Li Mao are back on the same page, read , willing to work together to protect the nation. Little did WE know that Li Mao is now an even better gas lighter than the Grand 💩.

Now Grand Tutor Xie has resigned fron the court to go back to teaching scholars in his home town. This is after the real truth came out about the Lu- A case. He now also conveniently feels bad about using the daughter he raised for 16 years as a pawn, disowning her and hitting her. I’m still holding on to that grudge, even if Jiayu doesn’t.

Anyway, unfortunately for new leaf Grand Tutor, he gets shanked by Xiao Wuyi’s dad, except both me and Jiayu are convinced with was a north Qin spy, wearing one of those wacky face masks. So Jiayu is summoned to new leaf grand Tutors house by Li Mao.

Yeah… fuck off Li Mao, she can feel however the fuck she wants. Wanna know who I find really suspicious considering how calm they are? YOU, that’s your daddy right there, and you don’t even look upset bitch.

Anyway, Li Mao decides NOT to investigate this case properly because it’s given him another oppurtunity to condemn the Xiao’s and seize control of the Beifu army. He’s even more ecstatic because he gets to take his ex prisoner.

And so we get this series of scenes.

Li Mao asked if she hates Wuyi for dragging her down and the fact that eventually he will die and she will be left alone.

She’s come such a long way since episode 1 and that spoiled selfish noble girl who didn’t care about anyone other than this dipshit.

So this little scheming punk has conspired with Grand Tutor 💩 to frame Xiao Wuyi and Xiao Yao for embezzling canal funds and causing deaths of civilians due to structural negligence.

And wouldn’t you know it, they have engineered it on the same day that Xie Jiayu is going to be made Wuyi’s OFFICIAL wife.

Our hot intelligent general had started to suspect all was not as it seemed but he reassures Jiayu before he is taken away to the Court of Judicial review.

What he means is Jiayu’s love is not his, Li Mao is his best friend and of course he won’t pursue Jiayu since she is already in love. However it easier said than done.

We pick back up with Jiayu ready to tear dear dad a new one, and with good reason.

She is very upset, she then thanks them for raising her and she walks out. Gaslighter dad COULD be upset but since he is a master manipulator it’s heard to tell when he’s being genuine.

Back at home Jiayu is still struggling with the truth.

Now to be fair, I did think that Xiao Wuyi would be furious, whether it was her intent or not her creation killed 30 thousand of his soldiers and almost resulted in his death. However, we see in the next scene why he’s not.

He goes the to pear candy store Li Mao told him about to get Jiayu’s favourite sweets to try and cheer her up. Jiayu is burning her blueprints.

He goes on to explain that if he follows her way of thinking he would have to blame the creator of tools.

He gets a smile out of her and then gives her the candy.

There’s someone who is also treating you really well girl, you just haven’t realised it yet.

He could explain the political game to her but he doesn’t want her to bear the same weight that he does, especially since she’s going through some shit right now.

The way she said “Oh. I’m. So. scared!” She has quickly determined from her interactions with his other wives that he must not be a bad person because they would have teamed up to kill him by now if he was. 😂

On a more somber note:

I mean honey, it was your crazy fucking dad, not you. You had no idea that the Gaslighter was a master manipulator capable of murder. And very few people would think to investigate the character of their own dad, especially when he’s been nothing but loving to you until now.

So in between all of this Xaoi Wuyi has spent quite a bit of coin trying to keep her other identity as the master of crafts under wraps and trying to identify who commissioned the original POS crossbow. The need to hide her identity is due to the fact that she did INADVERTENTLY assist in the slaughter of the 30k Beifu soldiers.

Now if you go back to episode 1 there is a scene where she is escaping Wuyi’s dynamic duo where she says that she doesn’t care who buys her creations as long as the price is good.

You can’t judge her too harshly, she is 16 and has been sheltered, she has not grasped just how much damage she can cause. When she sold that crossbow and the plan she assumed it was a for a spoiled official to make him look good at a hunt, she didn’t know that this would result in her evil dick of a dad planting the schematics in front of the Empress Dowager which would in turn lead to the slaughter of the soldiers. Xiao Wuyi said it best when he said she is naive. Xie Jiayu does have a lot of growing up to do in this drama and we now know that her dad has kept her sheltered because it made her more easy to manipulate. God I hate that POS.

Unfortunately big brother Xiao Yao overhears a conversation and learns of her alter ego which leads to an inevitable confrontation.

Xiao Wuyi does attempt to subvert the situation because he knows she didn’t consciously set out to kill people, however she refuses to leave them alone to talk.

I feel bad for everyone here. You can see the realisation hit her hard and her mind goes into overdrive.

She has a flashback and realises EXACTLY who engineered this whole situation.

It’s been 3 days since the wedding and it’s time to go back and visit the maternal parents.

Xie Jiayu is not in a good headspace after the previous nights confrontation and realisation and Ciao Wuyi can only watch her, concerned.

Ugh, evil gaslighter dad is at it again.

She wisely wants to take all her schematics so her dad can’t weaponise anything else she’s made. She’s also ready to confront her POS of a dad.

Xiao Wuyi concedes to her wishes.

So we get to see the sickly emperor at last... and he agrees with mummy dearest that anyone too powerful needs to be eliminated, so fuck Wu Yi and all he has done to protect the kingdom...

Oh what daddy Xie engineered this?

So... hand over your military power or die. Your troops won't arrive in time to save you...

And I'm guessing that, for whatever reason, a key part of this scheme involves A-Mao having to give up on marrying YaoYao and her having to marry Xiao Wuyi after all. I still don't get why though??

And "loving and caring" (I take it all back) daddy is willing to sacrifice her happiness and her wants in the name of political expediency.

Shitttt and Wuyi even tries to stop A-Mao... to remind him that YaoYao is waiting for him.

And poor A-Mao is willing to sacrifice himself, and the marriage he wanted, in the name of preventing war...

I suppose if I were to be generous I could say daddy Xie is also trying to stop war... but he's not making the choice for himself, like A-Mao is, is he? He's making the choice for his child and sacrificing HER wants and needs. To the point of having soldiers chase her down and capture her when she won't capitulate. SHIT and even holding a sword himself to the neck of her maidservant!!..

Oh dang and Xiao Wuyi is basically promising to look after YaoYao for him... like marry her but in name only.... (but ofc she's not going to know that and she's going to hate him for this)

I don't think there is a way out of this sunshine.

Ugh I can just seeeee the angst to come when Xiao Wuyi and YaoYao eventually catch feels and A-Mao feels they have betrayed him... (even though there is literally no way he can free himself from this and marry her),

It's gonna end up Wuyi vs A-Mao as the main antagonists, isn't it? Wuyi with his military power and A-Mao with the political power of the Regent...

And Wuyi is gobsmacked to find it was YaoYao's own father who engineered all this and sacrificed her (and A-Mao) for his scheme...

So because it wasn't clear who would win between the Beifu army and the palace guards, old daddy Xie felt it better to install one of his own family (A-Mao is YaoYao's cousin, after all) as Regent to secure the empire.

Oh shit and he's been planning this for years, teaching and cultivating A-Mao with the intent to make him Regent. Which means he's also been planning to sacrifice YaoYao to his schemes for years...

Fuck that is cold. Cdrama father syndrome strikes yet again!!

And he releases her. Seems he gives all the bark and none of the bite.

That was tense. I feel so bad for Jiayu, she really didn’t ask for any of this, she’s been separated from her mom and her first love, her dad turned out to be a gaslighting asshole and she now married to the most notorious general in Ye.

Jesus Christ, I thought I was a cdrama vet and could spot the schemers but Xie dad, now forever known as King Gaslighter, had me fooled!

This man, and I use that term loosely, is cold as fucking ICE.

Jesus H, the genuinely good people in this drama are definitely the minority. Talk about a twist.
