I really like emo music in concept because there's a lot of meaning to just up-front expressing one's deep, painful emotions; I just wish fewer people's deep emotions were about just breaking up with someone
musician: I FEEL LIKE EVERYTHING ABOUT ME IS WRONG, I HAVE TO CUT MYSELF OPEN TO FEEL ANYTHING
me: this is personal and powerful
musician: BECAUSE SHE LEFT ME
me: shut up
If you want emo albums and songs not about breakups try the greatest generation by the wonder years (about feeling aimless as a young adult, regret), home like noplace is there by the hotelier (deals with themes of suicide and mental health), summer death by marrietta (while it is about heartbreak, the end of the relationship is used to explore themes of getting older, self destructive behavior, and loss of childhood/youth), sleep patterns by merchant ships (about a dark dream the singer had). Also kings park by la dispute is more hadcore than emo but has some very direct and dark lyrics (about classicsm, youth violence, death).
