This blog is meant to advocate for better access in bandom, to deny accessibility to disabled fans is to deny access to a community of people who helped make bandom what it is. Disabled people deserve to enjoy things and have fun but we are regularly denied that. If I have to be annoying as fuck to get yall to be more accessible I will.

I had someone point out to me an accidental dog whistle I hadn’t thought about on my original copy of the zine, the two lighting bolts together is a well known Nazi symbol, which I somehow let slip. While I hadn’t been thinking about it when I’d made the design as I was thinking about it in a front and back cover design not side to side. It’s still important to address, take accountability and correct that. I’m genuinely sorry for that mistake and have made a new version.

I'm disabled myself and it's just kinda entitled to think a ROCK CONCERT needs to bend all the straws to make everyone all happy and comfortable. you will get knocked about. there will be flashing lights. this is any live performance of anything. have you ever been to a play? have you ever been outside? get tools that help you. get those darkened glasses. use ear defenders. bring a friend to comfort you while you're there. do anything but complain because you made the decision to go.

While I’ve never personally read any of castledocks work before, I can say with certainty that a lot of times writers will be attacked and accused of ableism for writing HSM characters which is what appears to be the case here. A majority of autism representation is LSN and MSN, speaking as an MSN person myself. I encourage everyone to seek out thoughts and opinions from HSN autistic people before accusing someone writing an HSN character of ableism.

I’ve seen people saying things like “I try to tag flash warnings but I may forget so remind me” in my reblogs and I’d like to say I’m grateful you try, I understand forgetting sometimes, that’s okay. Your effort means a lot, you’re not gonna be perfect, but trying is better than nothing.

Now that Halloween is coming up and I’ve already seen it starting, I want to remind everyone to please properly tag gifs/pictures with content that can trigger seizures you post/reblog and avoid using them in your themes for epileptics. Flashing/glitching/highly saturated/etc gifs/pictures are popular during Halloween so there is usually an influx of content that can cause seizures being spread around this time.

!!Please do not tag with ‘#epilepsy warning’!! 

This goes straight into tags epileptics use due to Tumblr’s messed up tagging system and does more harm than good in the end! Please instead tag specifics like ‘#flashing’, or combine the warning into one word like ‘#epilepsywarning’.

Please take a moment when making or relogging posts to tag them if they contain content harmful to photosensitive people and those with seizure disorders like epilepsy. It can save people from serious harm. 

EX tags to NOT use: #epilepsy - #epileptic - #epilepsy warning (And so on. Please don’t use our disability as a warning or aesthetic tag, that’s not okay.) (’#epilepsy warning’ is not okay because of the space between.)

Ex tags to use instead: #flashing - #eye strain - #eyesore - #epilepsywarning (Be specific! Use simple descriptors instead!) (’#epilepsywarning’ is okay, but using descriptors is better)

Not sure whether to tag something? Tag it anyway! It’s better to be safe.

It’s a start I suppose. While I’m grateful that they’re going to be tagging flashing from now on I’d like to talk about the statement about not going to shows if you’re epileptic. “Don’t go to shows/be online if you’re disabled” is a very common and gross statement used to push disabled people out of spaces, disabled people are often barred from these spaces despite being vital to their growth and development. It’s used to keep us out and as an excuse to not put in effort to make spaces accessible.

I ask that you leave stumpgirl alone but also let this post be a reminder. Accessibility is not optional and it should not be treated as a burden. Disabled people belong at shows.

Hello! I have a legitimate question here,

I tag all vids/gif's with flash warnings on my page, But was curious if there is a main tag I should be looking out for. As of rn I am using all the suggested tags to make sure I cover them all but was curious if there is a main one I should be using (sry I hope this makes sense!) I'm trying my best to make sure my blog is a safe space and wanna make sure I do it right!

it's best to approach people's lack of education on a subject or poorly formed stance with kindness, patience, and understanding.

@emos-for-an-accessible-bandom is going to start calling out people in bandom spaces who make ableist comments. i don't know how they're going to approach this, but i want to press to anyone who might have an urge to harass said individuals that you will regret it and that it isn't going to change anything.

also a reminder that a lot of people you'll meet on tumblr are minors (or even adults) who might just be uneducated. don't shut them out. try your best to explain. we've all said stupid uninformed things on the internet at some point in our lives. please try and discern what's accidental ableism versus things said with malicious intent. if you feel this might be you, the answer is simple: just ask. ask a disabled person in your life, or that you follow (only if they're comfortable with this), or come send an ask over here. you can't learn anything if you don't ask.

Yes! Please do not harass them! Calling out is different from harassment, I will block your ass if you do. I only call it shaming because I find it to be slightly comical wording. The only time I’m actually gonna make a “list of ableists” is if they’re violently (full on harassment, threats, etc) ableist as a warning to other users. I repeat, harassment is not acceptable, I do not condone it. There’s a reason I won’t post anyone under 14 (and rarely under 16) and won’t post screenshots from a year or more ago. I intend the weekly posts to be as a form of venting and education, not genuine harassment. I also intend on investigating each submission on my own. I’ve got a group of friends who I will ask for help and opinions on.

While I'm talking about calling out and shaming people, I'd like to talk about the fact that My Chemical Windex is a conservative and an asshole who called a 13 year old a sodomite.

I’m a former friend of Windex, throughout knowing her she seemed off, I always got a bad vibe, but I was dating a friend of hers and the time and the other people in her server were cool. I ended up leaving the server shortly before finding out she was a full-blown conservative. On election day she had shared a post from the Babylon Bee, a conservative version of the Onion that is violently hateful and unfunny. I don’t have a screenshot of this particular post, but I do have screenshots of her following said account. Attached is the doc with screenshots. I'm not able to make detailed photo IDs, which is why I have tagged this post as undescribed.

The rules for this will be:

I won’t shame anyone under 14

I won’t shame anyone if the incident shared with me happened more than a year ago unless I’m given proof of a lack of change/accountability since then

I will however use blurred out screenshots as learning opportunities. The exception to this is if it was violent/extreme ableism which I and my council (disabled bandom friends) will decide on.

I do not condone sending threats, slurs or doxxing anyone posted, call people out, shame them. But do not cause them real harm. If I find out anyone has done that, they will be blocked and called out.
