im always so baffled whenever it happens but people really will bend over backwards to try and claim fate isn't "progressive" enough to have canon queer characters, especially people who don't even actually read fate, just because it started with a porn game and its current flagship is a titty gacha. fgo has more explicitly transgender characters than you can count on both hands. there's FOUR separate occasions of them releasing a cooler version of a previously cisgender character that is now trans. off the top of my head we got three separate characters who are the embodiment of human self actualisation and therefore transgender. astolfo is popular among femboy fetishists though so how progressive can fate really be right

nero's one wish was to have someone at her side when she dies this time, a wish she was so hesitant to tell hakuno that she worded it as "it's rather trivial, but dying alone was a little harsh" without outright asking, but hakuno knows her nero and that small wish was burned so deeply into her soul that a thousand years after her death she refused to let the shadow of her shadow forget it, you cannot let saber die alone, i promised her she wouldn't have to, and deadface hakuno fulfills that promise, when nero burns herself up to buy him precious few moments to save the world he passes those moments to rin instead because he has something more important to do, and nero says, thank you, I'm glad you remembered, but there is something more important you still have to do, and she dies alone again but not lonely, not this time,

in her final moments a miracle occurred and nero died knowing a human love. that miracle is the core of the heroic spirit nero claudius, the dream that "there will eventually be someone who will reach out to me". she says if it hadn't happened she would still be in that wilderness, slowly dying while waiting for something impossible. that is the death that belongs to the person nero claudius, freed from her mother's suffocating love even if it happened too late to change anything about her life.

draco did not receive that miracle. the shade of nero who continued to slowly bleed out in that wilderness without anyone to care for her in her final moments, whose evil love is in devouring all the world so that she will be there in everyone else's final moments instead. she calls herself draco, and beast VI/S, and sodom's beast, but not nero claudius. she did not get to die as a person, as the her who is herself, instead of the convenient tyrant and star of calamity that others saw in her. the beast drinking filth from the holy grail is the child still drinking from her mother's poisoned cup.
