ling is the 12th child, and mei is the 17th, and there’s a 5 year age difference between them. so that’s about one child a year. but then.......there’s 43 of them total. meaning after mei was born, 26 kids were born in ~10 years. so that’s about 2-3 kids a year 

my only thought process behind that is that ?? once he started getting sick the emperor was like “Aw damn time to make some heirs”
