I do love that Warframe late game and Warframe 1999 put into perspective how eldritch the Operator and Drifter are.

The Operator is basically a cosmic demigod who has met with the Space Devil multiple times. They wear infected suits of armor like everyday clothing, switching them out as they please. They cannot die, or at least are extremely difficult to put down. They're an eternal immortal teenager whose collective anger toppled two nightmarish empires, and left a third empire half-leaderless. They and the Drifter destroy horrific "angels" born of the same tragedy that made them what they are, and in the back of their heads, they worry they could become angels as well.

The Drifter is equally eldritch, the same cosmic demigod trapped in the pages of a children's story for centuries or even millennia. They have grown without the influence of the Space Devil, but they faced thousands of deaths and more at the hands of a dimensional fisher king made to be their playtime friend. They escaped this mad storybook world through a little bit of help and their own fathomless willpower. They traveled throughout time at the behest of a deeply unethical mad scientist to save a city trapped in an eternal loop, befriending a growing number of people infected by the same disease that cultivates the very biomechanical armor they use at will. They can even romance one of these people, or more if they but reset the year, over and over and over again. Time is their plaything. They converse an infected guitar who is a shred of the infinite consciousnesses whom they both fight against and wear.

Not bad for a space ninja game from 2013, huh?

It's honestly kind of depressing as a person who really likes Dagath that most people's take-away from her lore is that she was in a relationship with two people and likes horses.

And not y'know— The fact that it was an orokin couple keeping a dax as a sex slave and dehumanized her to the point where they refused to use her name, they'd call her everything, but her actual name. Grandmother even mentions in the story how the couple only cared about her, because the "relationship" was taboo.

They literally killed her horse, because she gave it the small kindness of a name, something that she couldn't bare to rob it of. She nearly dies in the "accident" they cause to to kill Rakhali before handing her over to be a warframe. Ballas even gives her a permanent smile to rub salt in the wound. And then they try to kill her by blasting a laser through her skull, because they got bored.

Dagath isn't seeking vengeance on her exes, she's a woman who was robbed of her identity and autonomy by the Orokin and reflects their sins back at them when they meet her. Which is what makes it so important that Grandmother gave her her name, she gave her an identity while sacrificing her own. Something that Dagath could hold onto and be feared by and reclaim power from her abusers.

A lil vent abt the drifter/operator’s personality AND a bit of the warframe lore! See, I love warframe and i’ve played since I was 12 or something, but I loathe how “goofily good” the drifter/operator are, specially drifter since we get to see more of interactions with them via KIM.

I mean, they are void-warped, entities even, I just wish I had more freedom with morality choices and DE treating them by what they actually are. I mean, they can’t be normal dude, and they are far too normal and “moral”, it’s like my head can’t make a sense out of it, y’know? For one, I wish we could rebel against the Lotus (perhaps that’s coming soon? Idk) , she ISNT Margulis after all.

Also, maybe a bit controversial, I don’t like multiple universes and such, feels like a lazy way of getting more content and filling plot holes (like Marvel). They could’ve just aged the Operator somehow if they wanted the romance system (which I really appreciate).

That said, I really love warframe and understand its limitations as a game. I just wish it was more serious like it was in the beginning (???). Idk.
