…Because of her, we might actually, one day, be able to act like a normal person again…
I will never lay on my knees helpless, begging forgiveness from you who have ripped off my wings. Instead I will stand up and make you feel ten thousand times the pain that you made me feel, and laugh when you burn alongside me.
I have noticed that if you look carefully at people’s eyes the first five seconds they look at you, the truth of their feelings will shine through for just an instant before it flickers away.

Glad to hear it. There’s a varkid ranch out in the Tundra that the Exploitation Preserve has been p-pulling from for subjects. I was thinking if y-y-you could make a few of those little guys…big guys…it might make things interesting.
Hey, sounds like it could be fun. I always like a chance to bite Hyperion in their bright yellow ass.

Hey, tall, dark, and brutal. You up to b-bashing some skulls?

“WILL TRADE BASH FOR CASH.”
Tall, dark, and brutal--that’s a new one.
[Krieg, say something positive-- No-- No-- ... alright, close enough, I guess]
[-crawls in here- Hey. It’s been a hard week. Sorry for not being around much. I’ll do my best to get back to it, but I’m probably still gonna be slow. Happy you’re still here.]
You Must Remember This
Maya watched him for a moment, meeting his eye when he looked at her and making a soft noise in the back of her throat as he stroked her cheek. She found he was often better with him to communicate with the non-verbal - look at language as something more than words alone. She walked alongside him with an even, easy gait, a steady presence as they made their way back to Sanctuary.

“Rats? Well, sugar, I think that solves that problem nicely. Thanks for looking into things for me.”
Moxxi’s place was bathed in neon and pulsating with music as usual. The proprietor herself leaned over the bar, pushing a stack of bills in the direction of the two Vault Hunters, and offering them a wink.
“Come on back and see me sometime. I’m sure I’ll have something new on the agenda to be taken care of before long.”
Maya nodded, dividing the payout evenly and offering Krieg his share. In all likelihood, he’d be using it to buy a few sides of whatever the biggest animal was that the butcher had for sale. It never failed to amaze her the volume of meat the Psycho could put away. Nodding to the door, she said, “Find someplace quiet to settle in for a while?”
Krieg stuffed the cash rather unceremoniously into his pockets; chances were high that Maya was correct, and the vast majority of it would find its way to the counter of some butcher sooner or later. That is, if said butcher didn’t hand him the contents of the shop out of sheer fear for their life, but... it didn’t always happen that way. Often, but not always.
Quiet... quiet sounds good...
As much as he was usually loathe to sit still for any length of time, the suggestion of peace and quiet seemed to appeal to him right now. Even with the mask on, it was clear in his eye that he was tired; he wasn’t saying anything, his gaze wandered, and he even swayed on his feet like an exhausted dog.
After all he’d borne witness to today, he just... desperately wanted to...
“Sleeeeeeep,” he growled, moving toward the door with a half-lidded eye on his path ahead. “Rest the haunches, save the savouring for later, dig deep, dig deep, dig deep.”

Maya followed, picking her way around the former Lab Rat and frowning thoughtfully. Deconstructing her SMG, she watched him for a moment, considering first the uncontrolled and now somewhat childish, brooding behavior. He was lashing out and then closing off. Trying to keep himself intact.
Once in the open air again, Maya came to his side and touched his clenched fist.
“Nobody’s going to hurt you,” she reassured him. “I’ll keep you safe.”
From what, exactly, she wasn’t yet entirely certain, but it didn’t mean she was going to stop trying to figure it out.
“You don’t have to be scared.”
The Psycho flinched at her touch, at first, the tight clench of his hand releasing suddenly with curled fingers--but his shoulders sank when he looked down at her, taking solace in the simplicity of that statement, of that promise. Maybe it seemed ridiculous, that something like him should want to be kept safe--that he didn’t have to be afraid--but... so it goes.
The immediate distress of the Lab Rat faded to the back of his mind; a concern to be stewed on later by his other self. Now, in the light of the Pandoran sun, there was the Siren. There was Maya. This... warrior goddess, this azure light in the dark. How can it be that, no matter how many times he goes off the rails, no matter how difficult he is, she stays?
Thank you.
Krieg didn’t manage to articulate anything; instead, he just lifted a twitching hand, brushing her cheek with the back of his index finger as gently as he could. He didn’t seem to notice the smear of blood left behind, nor did he care.
I had two longings and one was fighting the other. I wanted to be loved and I wanted to be always alone.

You Must Remember This
The Lab Rat let out a shriek that was cut short as the buzz axe cleaved through it. It went limp in Krieg’s grip, a low, gurgling groan rattling from its chest. The look it gave the Psycho with its sightless eyes was not one of terror or anger, but rather one of immense sadness.
Maya felt a tightness in her chest, her breath catching. The sudden conflict; the halt in Krieg’s motion and the abrupt, savage motion afterward. It was as if a dam had burst somewhere inside of the Psycho, and a torrent of violence was surging out of him. While she wasn’t unused to seeing him tear through entire gangs of bandits, there was a certain viciousness here that even he wasn’t wont to unleash.
“Krieg! He’s dead!”
That’s enough! Damnit, listen to me, for once! That’s enough!
Krieg finally stopped at the bottom of an executioner’s cleave, the angry blade whirring and twitching in the flesh of what could only barely be considered a Lab Rat anymore; it was more or less a pile of pulp and blood, severed and slashed apart far more than was necessary. The Psycho was panting, chest heaving with each heavy breath as he rested, staring down wild-eyed at the remains of the slaughter.
He said nothing, withdrawing the axe from the corpse with a disturbing, wet noise. He was splattered with blood, sprayed across his bare torso and his mask from every overkill blow; he didn’t look at Maya, but instead looked away, growling under his breath and dragging the axe along the wall as he carried on toward the open air.
What the hell is wrong with you?
“Quiet,” he snapped, knuckles white where he curled both fists in hard. “Talk is cheap!!”
You Must Remember This
The Rat let out a hiss, jerking backward just enough to avoid being hit by the buzz axe. As it angled its face back up to Krieg, however, its expression distorted into one of horror, and something like recognition dawned in it.
“The ssssmell…” it keened. “Oh, God-! You! Not you!”
It jerked backward, now frantic instead of aggressive, terror evident in every ragged breath; Krieg was fairly certain he could smell that the creature had lost control of its bladder.
Maya watched, mouth a hard line as she aimed her SMG at the monster. She didn’t want to miss it and hit Krieg, but if she needed to, the thing was going to get a bullet right between its milky, sightless eyes.
“No no no!” it shrieked, twisting. “You! The slag oh God the poison-! Ssstole my sssight and…and made me ssssee! I didn’t want to sssseee! Don’t take me back! I won’t go back to the lab-! Pleassssse! We sssshouldn’t do this! We ssssshouldn’t fight!” It’s voice was pleading, mouth frothing as the stink of slag began to permeate its skin. “Lab Ratssss! Lab Ratsss!”
This... this thing knows us? Why?
Krieg’s eye was wide in the shadow of the mask, wavering between fury and confusion; the strength of his inner emotion was intense, confusing the two, making him hesitate. He snarled, jerking forward toward the rat while holding the axe back against his own will in the same motion.
“NO! KILL IT! KILL IT! LET ME SPLIT THE SKULL AND SPILL THE MEMORY AND BLEED IT INTO THE EARTH!”
Just wait! Wait, damn you! What does it mean, back to the lab--? I can’t--I can’t remember--
The reek of slag was consuming--he could feel the muscle quiver under his skin, see the veins forced upward, raw and violet-stained, pulse heavy--the taste acrid on the back of his tongue--they were coming again with the syringes, hands in white gloves, but he could see the stains of blood, washed away but still there, blood and guilt and slaughter--
“NOT LIKE YOU! I’LL NEVER GO BACK!!”
Howling, the Psycho swung the buzzaxe full force in an arc, wild and livid and unrestrained.
You think you own me; You should have known me You took the future and the food off my family's plate You think you'll use me--I'm stronger than you...
