“Everybody’s doin’ it”
First of all I’d like to take a moment to give a shout out to my little team who’s been holding it down these past few months while I was away handling business. Of course, taking a little moment isn’t quite enough to show my gratitude, but unfortunately I don’t have much to offer other than that and some hugs here and there, but those will come in due time. That being said, I’m baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.
I was introduced to a group called “Run The Jewels” a month or so ago, and needless to say I fell in love. Their music has been pretty much all I accept to listen to since hearing their second album “Run the Jewels 2″, which is one of the things I’m here to tell you lovely readers about. Let’s start from the beginning.
“ Run the Jewels is an American hip hop duo formed by New York City-based rapper/music producer El-P and Atlanta-based rapperKiller Mike in 2013.[3] They released their eponymous debut studio album, Run the Jewels, as a free digital download in 2013, which was followed by Run the Jewels 2 in 2014. Run The Jewels' work has consistently been met with critical acclaim from music critics, who have widely praised Killer Mike and El-P's dark, menacing production, aggressive and inventive lyricism, and themes. “ (Run the Jewels Wiki Page)
To be perfectly honest, their first album is something I’ve only started to explore, I was shown their second album first, but that’s not to say this album isn’t appealing because it definitely is. The artists featured in this album are some of those I definitely would have never thought I’d appreciate but here I am thinking “Damn, Rihanna did a real tight job.” after listening to a song. Which is something considering how incredibly biased I am against artist who’s existence I find unpleasant. But, I digress. This album was released June 26th 2013 and is available for free on their website http://www.runthejewels.net/ .
Now this album is what I consider one of the greatest hip-hop albums I’ve ever heard. They’re currently beating Childish Gambino and Tyler (big surprise though, right?). Ever since I heard this album about two or three weeks ago it’s been playing on my spotify. It’s been played back and forth, over and over, and there isn’t a single song on this album I don’t like. Their beats are grimey, their lyrics make sense and derive from the usual “smoke weed and fuck bitches” message that seems to be a trend now-a-days in the hip-hop and rap world. Needless to say, this album comes on and I feel like I need to take a shower for the next twelve hours. That’s how dirty it is.To make it better, earlier this week they released a collection of remixes of songs from this album featuring adorable little cat sounds and more dirty beats. There’s a pre-order up for “Meow The Jewels”, which to be quite honest is a very ugly brown vinyl, but that just adds to the fun!
You can order any of these albums, or download them from their website http://www.runthejewels.net/ . The downloads are free, so why not? Right?
As I was looking around the internet for info on these guys I stumbled upon an article from the Chicago Tribune which was published yesterday which addressed what RTJ thinks hip-hop needs, and apparently meows are the answer. The rest of the worlds hip-hop artists need to step up their game.
Besides their music being fun, entertaining, unique and down right dirty. Killer Mike is also a die hard supporter of Bernie Sanders which gives RTJ a special place in my heart. #feelthebern
Love you long time, my lovely readers. I’m happy to be back.

A quick and easy guide to joining the local scene
Ah, I see you’re curious about your local music scene. Maybe you’re looking for some new friends, or maybe you have a love of repetitive, sad boy music andyou know how to posi jump, and maybe you’re just intrigued by this “Centennial Lanes” place everyone is always talking about. Well, you’re in luck! Follow these quick and easy steps and you’ll be “pitting” with all the local tough kids in no time!
Step 1: Discover the most popular local bands, and support only those bands. It’s only cool if it’s already hyped by a ton of people, right? Make sure to brag about living in the same town as these bands to everyone you know, including your own parents. Don’t forget to thank good old Mom and Dad for choosing to raise you in such a fantastic, musically-legendary place.
Step 2: Befriend people in the scene. Pretend like you’ve known about every cool new local band since the day they were all formed. Give your new friends an apathetic attitude while spitting out information you memorized from the bands’ “about me” sections on their Facebook pages. Compare them to bigger bands they essentially rip off of. Gush about how they are the next big thing, even though they haven’t brought anything new to the table, and all of their material is taken from circa 2004 Fall Out Boy.
Step 3: Pretend like you’re “so over” Fall Out Boy.
Step 4: Only attend a show to see your favorite band. Do not, under any circumstances, watch any of the bands playing before or after them. Stand in the back with your arms crossed, talking loudly to your friends during every set leading up to your favorite band, and leave immediately after they play. Make a point to post how great they are on every social media platform you have an account for as soon as you leave the venue.
Step 5: Make sure to pit every single time you see any of your friends’ bands play. Every. Single. Time. Even if the crowd is only made up of your friends’ family members, and great granny is front and center, you best be throwing those elbows.
Step 6: If you join or start a band, make sure to create a surplus amount of merch. Make sure to wear that merch everywhere you go. Put that merch on your dog, your grandma, your pet rock. Wear that merch to high publicity events, like to your own shows, or to your friends’ shows, or to huge music festivals. Post as many selfies of yourself repping yourself as you can manage.
Step 7: If a local band from your area has made it big in any way, shape, or form, make sure you remind them about it often by trying to be just like them, going out of your way to be their best friend, and by doing anything you can to gain attention just from knowing them. If you’re in a band, beg them to play shows with you. If you’re a fan, make sure you bother them whenever you see them, wherever they may be. If they’re wandering the mall-SELFIE. If they’re hanging out at a park-SELFIE. If they’re out to eat-fuck, you might as well just grab some fries right off their plates while you’re there. You’re from the same scene, you’re practically siblings!
With these easy tips, you’ll be a valued member of your local music scene in no time at all!

Jeez, what a throwback! Does anyone remember New Jersey natives, Thursday? They were angry, they were emotional, they were everything I loved growing up and everything I love to this very day. I miss these guys!
