I just want to give a shout out to all the medical staff that have to work during the holidays. Thank you for what you do and for caring and comforting those who are ill or hurt during the holidays. Thank you for spending your Christmas by their side and doing your best to keep them healthy.
Today's the Day!
I finally get to do my 12-hour ride along today! SO nervous and excited!!
Have fun! Try to get as much hands-on experience as you can
Can someone tell me what its like to be a paramedic?
Hours of boredom interrupted by short runs of terror while surrounded by questionable fluids and body bags.
this is the most accurate description out there.
So do you guys regret going into this career?
Not once. I’m tired and some days I have a hard time getting out of bed but I’ve never regretted it.
This was exactly what I needed to read, as random as it was. Thanks!
I know I haven't posted here in a while nor do I post often. That's because ever since failing my EMT state practical I've been trying to keep myself busy. As of today, with unofficial results, I passed :)
I just had the one medical assessment station to re-take, but it still was a nervous 10 minutes. I was so happy after getting unofficial results, I honestly almost cried. I waited about 6 months to retake this. I mean, when I had to shake the EMS coordinator's hand after handing him the slip that congratulated me I basically looked like this:
Happy EMS week, y’all!
>sucking chest wound secondary to high-velocity gunshot >this is the best audio capture of an open pneumo I’ve ever seen >if you’ve never seen or heard one before, it’s really unnerving >the crackling noise is something you just have to hear to believe >it honestly sounds like a Geiger Counter —and you’re going to think the patient is radioactive by the sound of the clicks
I never thought of it before but it does kinda sound like a geiger counter. Now I’ll never get that out of my head.
save me baby
OMG SO CUTE!
Saving the world
My thoughts exactly!
OMG THIS IS THE FUNNIEST THING I’VE EVER SEEN. Sorry, we’re too lazy to call 911 so we’re gonna lay you in the back of a pick up truck and hope for the best LMAO.
Other counties. LOL.
I laughed way too hard at this.
I was going to post about how much I liked my medical terminology teacher on the first day of class, but I just got an email saying the class was canceled due to low enrollment.
:(
On Saturday, as part of my Patient Transport class, we got some practice at driving an ambulance. Considering the largest vehicle I've ever driven is my truck, this took a while to get used to.
Super fun to learn though. :D
I sat down under the spray, arms wrapped around my knees, rocking and crying uncontrollably. I rocked and shook and wept for I don’t know how long then quietly dried off and climbed into bed. Frankie Maryland died on his twenty-fifth birthday, fifteen years ago. It was my fourth call as a paramedic.
A Paramedic’s Story (via jonvu)
This term I've got four classes. A&P, ASL 101, EMS: Patient transport, and EMS: communications and documentation.
All of these classes are really fun/interesting to learn about. :)
So good news and bad news.
Bad news first. I didn't pass all of my skill stations at state practicals.
Good news is when I retest, it's only in one skill station (medical assessment). So I suppose that's a partial pass?
I'm a bit thrown off by this, but I didn't plan on getting any EMT or ER tech jobs after getting licensed, and I won't be able to apply for the paramedic program until at least the end of next summer, so I feel pretty good still, and honestly, it's much better than straight up failing.
After the test was over, I went to go have a few drinks with my fellow classmates, and..I dunno. I just feel good. When re-test time comes, I'll knock it out of the ball park.
