Eternity was every bit of far away as his remark was. Her name rung hollow, echoing the dilapidated stone walls devoid of blessing. His was solemn, reciting words as if it were a passage entered an old archive. No love, no warmth to be found in his tone nor did she anticipate any. Marika had witnessed the desecration of her beauty from the sacred depths of Leyndell towards the broad expanse of the Cerulean Coasts, nary did there exist an avowed place where her majesty was honored anymore.

She is a phantom haunting her own home. Every inch of stone and gold belonged to her, and yet the consequences had made her a stranger. For all that she had endured, the ramification couldn't find purchase on her shoulders and push her towards the licking flames of damnation. Whether it was her stubborn in refusal or mere fact she was so fractured as to feel consciousness beyond feeling was to be philosophized but never confirmed.

" Thou'st wouldn't follow me, " she rebuked; her conjecture scathing as it discards his earnest feeling," when presented with mine corollary, thou would'st acted no different than Radagon. Of that, I am most certain. "

Aeternum was generous in the assumption. The Golden Consort was astute enough to seize their divine body to restrain her —— he carried the strength she hath divested to him totally, leaving her weak to his clutch. Dracula wouldn't have made it that far. Dare she ascertains, he would have been miles too short and leagues too weak to stay her grieving hand from the aribrating hammer.

Still, she saunters. In a practiced gait from door to him, years of torment couldn't steal the elegance from her movements nor the swaying surety of her hips as she vanishes between flickers of candlelight. Her holy eminence reads as a faint, saintly glow across her fairborne features, conveniently tucking the pain beneath the veneer of goddesshood.

Hands extend from the cruel, unanswering darkness, fingertips pressed into the soft underbelly of his jaw, anchored near the sharp contour of bone. There, he will be cradled for a passing moment before thin thumbs rise over the apex of his sharp features, smearing the red tracks away into arterial stains into pallid skin.

Contempt for the reply mounts, his voice quieted like the center of a hurricane. His expression twisted into something never before shown to her. It causes lips to crack at the mouth, pulled back in a kind of snarl. His voice drips venom, lashing against the consort before him. And then he remains silent for some time, and softens. For all his threat posed, for all the fact that he was greater than he once was, beyond death and beyond mortal; he softened. Blood stained drip faded under her touch, smearing away crimson.

And still, something simmered there. His expression unchanging until lips moved to speak. ❝ Do you know how I am here after all this time, Marika? ❞

He poses the question and allows it to linger. Profane, horrid embers burning behind his sight as moments stretched on. He lets the words resound like an edict, fangs seething behind tensed lips. I saw my godson's corpse. I saw my goddaughter go to war. All that I swore to keep safe, I saw ravaged by the shattering. All while I could do nothing. ❞

His voice dips, as if in lament. And then brows set on his face, like a grim portent before a revelation. ❝ I refused to allow it. I would not bow to false gods, nor would I betray you for another greater will. And so, I asked our people to rally. I gathered the Numens. I appealed to the Grandmother. I led them to battle in your name.❞

❝ We left a path of carnage carving a path towards my godchildren. And in the wake of a battle, surrounded by our dead, besieged on all sides… I made a choice. I would partake in communion forbidden by the gods and golden order. I drank the vitality of my brothers and countrymen, draining the essence of their life. Denying myself death and condemning myself to sow it so that I may feed. Damned to never see another dawn, cursed to never rest by night. ❞

He breathes once, the intensity of his gaze finding purchase in a bitter determination. Not dissimilar to her own. ❝ This humanity we once had; It is lost to me now as well. I sacrificed it as one would a lamb on your altar. I culled armies. I butchered legions and left fields of dead. I ruptured and gored every lung which uttered a traitorous breath, all for the sake of my Queen. And then? The loyal grew old. Their houses fell. Their armies withered. Until only I remained.❞

Mini-Hiatus notice!

Activity is going to be low from now until this time next month. Sorry for the delay on stuff, but after my semester I just need to take a bit of a break!

Got another thing off my to-do list! It's based on a scene from Soul Hunter (iykyk), except I wanted Talos explaining it to Eurydice instead of Septimus (because I wanted that final panel). Will still need to do proper art of First Claw someday.

Tried playing around with a style I could use to render these quick, but still make it look good… for future comic projects! Used a hard brush for the linework, and went straight to colors after. Process on my artstation!

Beskar clasped against beskar in laughter and frustrated blows, credits changing hands among the battle-scarred hull. Shaxx's hand raises as a pouch hurled through the air, catching it in flight and bringing it down to his side. Weighing the contents, counting the sticks of currency within by feel alone. ❝ I never doubted you for a moment, my friend. Give us the room! ❞

Heavy footsteps fell upon the deck as the Mando'ade of the rogue warlord filter out. The Tuang reached and plucked a command chair from the floor, lifting it from its magnetic base as if it were nothing at all and sliding it across the floor as they retrieved a second for themselves. Easing forwards just as they lowered themselves to take a seat,

" her voice splits between rounds of bolt fire, scoring another kill downrange from their fortified trench-hovel. between the screams and the roars and the blazing of lasfire, she receives an adequate chorus of confirmation. "the emperor protects. the guard prevails !! " louder this time. all wild-eyed, barking defiance for the handful of scions and shock troopers left.

so this was it: it was bound to happen eventually. circumstance, age, regiment and planetary deployment all did their utmost to dilute the actual data, but every soldier from lowly conscript to the most decorated imperial overseer knew the numbers. most guardsmen (strictly statistically speaking ) boasted a lifespan of about fifteen hours. and really, dukane reasons, thirty years a soldier is a far cry from less than a day. the same could not be said for the man managing her command team's communications relay. by virtue of now missing his upper body, of course; it appeared his fifteen hours of glory were through.

she sunk back into the ramshackle security proffered by a wall of bullet-addled sandbags, using the brief lapse in returning fire to slam a fresh magazine into her bolt pistol. they were running out of time ( so much to do ) . dukane reached over to the mutilated body of the young vox operator, and pulled from his ruined meat his data-slab and accompanying micro-bead. quick words to dragor, her last string of orders and a surprising albeit curt apology. next to vannil's private channel, she frantically thumbed over the ruins:

and that was that. she tossed the equipment aside in time to hear a great bellow erupt from their attacker's backline. a beast, towering at least thirty feet tall and well taken to taint of warp-rot. in another life the creature may have been an ogryn. whatever monstrosity which existed now in its stead was long divorced from the limitations of its prior biology. it was staggering. it was coming right towards them.

she closes her eyes and smiles, and then the world around her erupts.

it was a streak of white lightning. the drop pod hit thirty feet behind them, caving in a section of the trench wall while upending so much dirt and debris even the traitors held their fire to reassess and recover. she'd been thrown off her feet, lost in the haze and the dust. by the time the commissar managed to stagger upright, he already had them.

a trace of red thunder. the space marine had moved, quicker than anything his size had any right to move. she watches alongside her men, just as childishly awestruck as he slammed himself into the monsters knee. it crumpled, too shocked to scream and the bones ( thick as a tree's trunk ) shattered at impact.

" he's risking his life for you, " she bellowed, quick to reengage and reinvigorated by this obscene, insane hope. thank you, she prayed ( the same terrified child who'd seen those colors in the burning skies of thracian primiars ). the emperor had sent his angels. thank you. "cover him !! "

Blood erupted like a geyser, spilling across a blanket of white and red. A nomadic power-sabre erupts and splits the air it carves through with one hand, the other hoisting the grotesque head of the abomination back towards the lines from which it came.

‴ Rejoice, friends, for the enemy has surrounded you! ‴

They laugh into the frey, grinning beneath the ceramite skin they wore. The armored lasgunners pour their batteries against his frame, singing the sound cries of ricocheting munitions across the trenchline. When the power-sabre swept forwards, it left only carnage and dead men.

Mobian Ogryn charge with clubs and carapace into an angel, being reborn into gore and severed limbs by the Marine's hand as Astartes sabre phased through the armored regiments and left a trail of death. Their blade only lowering to fire streaks of blue hydrogen from their pistol which left the bloody stumps of men in its wake.

‴ Now there is nowhere you can miss! ‴ They speak through grinned teeth, breathing in the smoke and promethium fume as a bomber life splatters against the angel's visor. They allow a bloodthristy chortle past their lips, the tip of the blade pointing towards routing enemies. ‘Space Marine!’ they as they run and are promptly shot down by noble guardsmen.

They stand their height with head held high. Shoulder rotating the direction of his sidearm with the efficiency of an autoturret as it fired upon and delivered death to its marks. And as the line of guard overtakes the trench and the armored regiment of the Sixth routed, the angel's gaze falls upon the Commissar limping towards him.

‴ Do my eyes deceive me? Could this be a foul trick of the Warp? ‴ Steps land with an aura of sanctuary, like a wall of blessed steel that stood stalwart against the surrounding terror. ‴ Or do I truly know this face I see before me? Could it possibly be the small, brave Darinda from Thracian Primaris? Could this be the little warrior who has grown to a soldier of our Emperor? ‴

The raise their blade in a salute, eyes scanning the horizon and distant vantages for marksman and finding none. Then, hand raises to relieve the helm from their visage to reveal a toothy, warm, grin with all the kindness of an angel's smile. ‴ Has my brave Darinda, who's eyes I will never forget, become a mighty Commissar? ‴

He was a blur to mortal eyes. A streak of white and red across a moment, the sound of Ceramite against Ceramite ringing in a tone never meant to be heard by Man. The ruined debris of the home shake as a jetbike slams itself into the side of a Word Bearer. The son of Lorgar is barely able to stand before they're reeling to the side, only to meet a power sword driving through their primary heart.

‴ The sons of Jaghatai say ‘hello’, traitor. ‴

The Word Bearer was fast, but not faster than their opponent. They raise a ritual dagger, stabbing forwards into air as an arm cracks upwards and smashes into the Chaos Marine's joint at the elbow. As the dagger falls, the White Scar rips the helm from the ancient warrior and drives a fist into the exposed skull. Then again. Repeating the motion as the power sword hummed inside the Astartes's chest, leaving only a bloody stain against rockcrete.

They withdraw their blade, only to go still. Blood boils on the surface of the humming blade, head turning for a moment before— The impact staggers him as a slug rocks against his helmet. A ringing, kinetic sound which was metal bounding off the surface of another right along the way of his ear. The round which impacted his cranium caused sound to deafen momentarily, hand instinctively drawing the plasma pistol on his side at the direction as finger weighed on the trigger. Only to not fire.

Brown eyes moistened and filled with fear, dark hair coated in mud, he stares down the child at the end of the plasma pistol shakily holding a rifle with tight lips. Afraid, terrified, but undaunted. It makes him smile.

‴ I thank you for your aid, young warrior. ‴ He manages to find the right Gothic, pistol lowering to his side. Flicking off the switch of the power sword as that too lowered gradually. ‴ You have delivered me from a moment more of Bataar's prattling. ‴ He says the last over the vox, a chortle of his brothers earned as the uneasy silence ends. The marine lowers himself, closer to the child's height. Palms show themselves as weapons lay down, slowly reaching for his helm.

Air hisses as it detaches, a smile showing itself towards the girl as a soft voice spoke with the care and candor of a wizened sibling. ‴ I am like you, see? I am here to keep you safe. ‴ Hand extends outwards, head turning to the side as eyes soften. ‴ My name is Kulgai, son of Jaghatai. What is your name, little warrior? ‴
