Zagreus & Melinoë
@nazorneku | Liked for Zagreus
❝ Say, Than? ❞ The prince of Hades hesitates, standing amid the chamber with a pensive expression.
❝ One thing I'm not entirely clear on. While we were imprisoned by my now-reformed Grandfather, how is it Typhon was able to die? I assume you weren't there to meet him when Melinoë ran them through with my father's spear. And still, he perished. I don't think I'm entirely clear on the specifics of that. ❞

Yrliet's face lost color. Amid the shifting forms of neverborn's weaving and cutting with blades of bone and satin flesh, a silhouette lingered in the drama of bloodshed. Its face was demure, impassive, and passionless; a pallid mask of wraithbone with horns adorned. Arebennian. Yrliet's breath shakes, imperceptibly. Or at least, it would have been had the listener been any but of the militarum's scions.
A Scion could raise a hellgun, acquire a target, and loose a killing shot in less than a heartbeat. Fractions of a second, even less than, was the reaction time it would've taken for them to shift their aim and pull the trigger in a single motion. And it was too slow. Impossibly, agonizingly slow.
Moving into a lockstep in the time it took to the eyes to find the performer, hands graced the unsightly form of the neverborn in a passionless, sensual caress. Marigold diamonds and midnight blue unfurled against the daemon's pallid form as graceful hands settled upon its shoulders with all the intimacy of a divorced lover inviting the opening measure of a dance. The daemon's laughter rose into a crescendo of ecstasy and agony alike as monofilament waltzed through immortal flesh. Bone surrendered before skin remembered to part, its impossible anatomy dissolving into ruin beneath strands too fine for mortal sight. Flesh collapsed into crimson vapor and glistening ribbons, each hidden filament conducting the creature's body apart with exquisite precision as the performer guided the unraveling daemon to the floor through a graceful dip, lowering their partner with all the tenderness of a tragedy's betrothed unwilling to rush the final measure.
Ichor blossomed across the porcelain mask, the Harlequin turning upon a single measured step and gliding beside another daemon as though drawn onward by music no other soul could hear. One hand found its shoulder, the other its waist, and with effortless poise the creature was gathered into the embrace of a final dance. Their movements possessed the impossible elegance of a courtly masque, every measured turn carrying the certainty of an ending rehearsed as the daemon was leaned unwillingly into the motion.
A voice, demure with a patronizing mirth, carrried itself effortlessly between the crack of hellguns and the ecstatic shrieks of dying daemons.
‴ Fair rose of beauty, gentle grace divine, What sorrow fills my breast, that thou shouldst find thy way to such a stage, A cursed player's shrine. ‴
The performer inclined their head just as the daemon simply came apart, their poisonous, wrist-mounted kiss reducing immortal flesh to drifting ribbons that scattered through the blood-soaked air like discarded costume silks. The performer held the creature upright until the last of its form abandoned itself, then released it with the delicate courtesy of a dancer surrendering their partner at the close of the final act.
‴ This mountebank player of the laughing god's troop, This herald of Thirst's final scene, The bane to feeling's frantic band, Flee, my loves! Fly! Fly! Back to thy wretched coop. ‴
Laughter. It rang through the chamber with infectious warmth, untouched by the ruin surrounding it, its sound delighted mirth upon a stage of gore without expression, its merriment divorced from humanity, echoing across the blood-soaked theatre until the Aeldari exile's word was translated into the Lord Captain's ear.
Arebennian. Doom.

Heads up, I just culled a lot of muses from my roster. I also really need to get into writing here more as I dont have a ton of active threads. So please stick with me while I just make a few permanent starter calls and get stuff sorted for my most active muses!
they feel as if they made of stone — the sensation of camaraderie and boisterous joy that surrounds them only reaches skin-deep, crashing against them in the briefest sensation. they knew that even if they chased after it they would not find it again — that warmth, like everything else, was lost under the rolling pulses of rage that consumed them. shaxx and his people were no target ; the vicious anticipation triggered by casual mando'a was reflexive, and they refuse to let themself tense at the sound of raucous laughter. but anger is now omnipresent, a new constant which everything is shaped around, and leaves them stock-still and ashen. their laugh at the passing of credits is rote and hollow. [ they would not have bet on their own survival, either. ]
revan watches in silence the warlords' entourage filter out, giving nods and the occasional wave as they make note of the new and old livery. even among shaxx's people there is change, an ebb of flow of power, and they choose to take comfort in it. certainty, even, with the path they have chosen, though they doubt any exchange between the mando'ade had the same bitter taste as their own work.
they accept the seat offered with a grateful nod, but it's difficult to settle into it without looking like a dropped stone, or a droid losing power. gravity comes for them all that once, making a drooping of limbs look even more ungainly in their armor. they’ve already adjusted to the lighter weight and bulk of beskar compared to the hardened alloys and composites of what the republic had issued, but they’re still not used to the level of coverage, finding panels where they do not expect and shuffling repeatedly in their seat to accommodate for it.
for a moment, they say nothing. instead they merely breathe in the unique silence, one lacking trappings of expectation. this is, after all, likely the last place such a thing exists for them. “ i am glad you are well. though, i confess i find it difficult to imagine you in any other state. ” a open hand is useful here; the casual air of friendship and the warmth in their voice can all justified as a tactical advantage. yet still it is difficult to speak to him as they did not too long ago when mere months feels like a lifetime. they lean forward in their seat, hands pressed together before them. “ the council's fate for me is of no consequence. i shall not be returning to the order. ” the light edge drains out of their tone with every syllable. “ none of my people will. ”
it is, in fact, the first time they've spoken of it outside their own ranks. they had expected the admission to come with some terrible realization, something slotting itself into place, but instead they feel no change from the moment they had sat down. “ i wish this could be a mere social call. ” even if they were the type for it, revan could not bring themself to lie to him, or dress up their plans in the typical pattern of diplomacy. all they have for him is steely determination and an unwavering gaze. “ but i have come to negotiate borders and terms, to reaffirm our alliance. war shall once again engulf the republic, and it shall be brought by my hand. ”
First, there was silence. Then, it breaks in a laugh that echoed out behind plate after a short delay. The sound carries with it a war-drum of roused spirit, unfounded in the humor he seemed to find in the mirthless tone of the fallen. ❝ Have we fallen out? Revan. ❞ It is almost fatherly, the way he scolds them with the firmest and gentlest hand. ❝ You lie almost as poorly as you waltz. ❞ From the moment he swore to them that his banner would fly beside their own, he had kept his oath. He did not need to reaffirm an alliance which never faltered, in life or death.
❝ Do as I say, or else I will finish this bottle of black ale by myself and you will have made me open it for nothing. ❞ He does not wait, he simply walks to the command console and moves a panel to reveal a mess of wires, piping, and a stash of alcohol near the navigation. The figure applies the rather pointless social gesture of pressure by uncorking and pouring, moving with a decidedly unbothered cadence as if any refute or deliberation on the matter was going to be ruefully ignored as soon as it left their mouth. Dark brown alcohol poured into stained glass cups, leaving the bottle open as he placed it between the two of them.
His head held high, he raised a glass to them. For them. As he had done countless times before — No different than the very first. His next words, however, are gentler. His voice carrying with it the care and decidedly in-tact dignity that came with an attached affection of one asking a son about why their knees were adorned with scrapes, or why a daughter sat weeping atop stairs. Leaning forward, ever slightly.
❝ Now. Once more. Look me in the eyes. Tell me what you need, my friend. ❞
i might... actually reblog a meme and work on things today
Shadowheart's eye is twitching slightly. ❝ Ithirba, why were there Flaming Fists at my door this morning, asking if I knew someone who looked suspiciously like you ? ❞

‴ Witnesses. ‴ She does not elaborate further.
ithirba vc: the frog people are calling me a teefling again. unrelated did you hear the news about that triple homicide that happened earlier today
Her lips part, & then promptly shut, head tilting. ❝ What a . . . curious change of subject. The homicide had nothing to do with frogs, I'm sure. ❞
