syaoran tsubasa really is the character of all time

forced by hitsuzen to leave home on an extradimensional quest before he's even double digits. makes a choice in a moment of hesitation that he's not to blame for but Will assume the responsibility of. suffers immediate ego death at what. 8 years old. on his very birthday. gives up his ability to return home to stay and fix it. fails. decides he has truly nothing left to lose so might as well break all of space-time for a wish. doesn't realize but also doesn't Not realize just how much that will break more worlds than just his. immediately pays an outrageous price for that wish. becomes imprisoned for another half his lifetime. gets cloned. invents a hail mary in the form of giving his clone a soul which semi-works and then the clone becomes an interdimensional mass murderer under the control of the man who ruined all of their lives. gets to come back to life but specifically surrounded by people whose lives were ruined as a consequence of his time-traveling. gets to go back to the world he arrived in before everything went to hell but has to watch as his mere presence disintegrates everyone in it. gets to see his parents again but only to immediately lose them all over, no recourse. can't even stay in his adopted home world because that is yet Another price he's forced to pay. a sentient tree really likes his vibe and decides to psychologically torture him about it by making him commit patricide on his already dead and lost father. doesn't give up which means that the world never stops punching him in the face about it

its almost like clamp woke up one day and thought “syaoran? that kid from our latest magical girl show? that other 10 year old kid? yeah so what if we’re just gonna drop him in this alternative universe for our next series alongside with sakura, where his circumstances are so fucked up that hes doomed in every single way imaginable that no matter what he does, fate will somehow just create new problems for him and he cant even do anything about it”

if clamp really wanted to show “all kinds of love” they could’ve just made Fujitaka and Nadeshiko meet in college or later in life, and could’ve STILL gave them a big age gap without making it completely weird… (AND DONT MAKE NADESHIKO FRESHLY 18 EITHER) her grandfather could’ve still potentially disapproved of the relationship, like maybe she was in her early to mid 20s and he was in or approaching his 30s…or you know, CHOOSE SOMETHING ELSE??

Like there was so many routes they could’ve done if they wanted to show different types of love and how they’re discriminated against, Nadeshiko comes from a wealthy family and we don’t know Fujitakas background. Maybe they could’ve shown that Nadeshikos family didn’t approve of him because he wasn’t stable financially and didn’t think he could be a good husband or provider for her.. maybe they could’ve shown how dating someone outside of your race is looked down upon?? Maybe they could’ve included some trans rep and show how their love was looked down upon that way?? JUST LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE.

There were just SO many other dynamics they could’ve chose, to show different types of love, and with the other relationships they could’ve shown platonic love, idk some father daughter relationships... like let’s be real they just wanted an excuse to glorify their weird fetishes. BECAUSE A 9-10 YEAR OLD AND A GROWN MAN WHOS PROBABLY IN HIS MID 20s TO EARLY 30s IS GENUINELY DISGUSTING

the whole “love transcends all barriers” thing from clamp (especially old clamp i feel like) has always been portrayed in a very open light, which unfortunately also includes condoning a lot of problematic/pedophilic age gaps.. like one of the most prevalent examples that i can give is from the cardcaptor sakura 2001 interview booklet, where ohkawa made this comment about sakura and syaorans relationship

like yes i think its cute that these two are fated to fall inlove with each other in every universe despite gender sexuality etc, but they really didnt have to include the age gap part 😭😭

also ive heard from somewhere (i cant remember at the moment but i think it was from a youtube video essay?) that in an interview, apparently the reason why clamp loves age gap relationships is due to their careers preventing them from ever getting married, hence the idea of getting married young is appealing to them…?? and i havent started their other series yet (ive only read ccs, tsubasa and holic up until now) but ive also been informed about a lot of more kid/adult age gap relationships in their older works 💔

its pretty disheartening because i personally love how clamp incorporates a lot of queer themes and relationships without it being treated as if its abnormal, plus i get the vision that theyre trying to go for aswell.. i just have a feeling that clamp (or old clamp) never really understood how toxic and manipulative these tropes can get (ccs has maybe like 3 student/teacher relationships going on in the manga and its marketed towards YOUNG GIRLS 😭😭😭), furthermore i really dont like using the “oh its from decades ago and censorship back then was different!!” excuse because it really doesnt change the fact that they were still grown adults and writing these typa contents at the time.

i do wish that in another universe they couldve just done something else with these couples for the theme other than blatant age gap relationships 🥹🥹 well atleast i dont think their latest works like tsubasa/holic had any of those stuff so maybe theyre improving hopefully… whatever theyre cooking in the future im just praying that they dont do these stuff anymore..

i think we as a society should talk more about this particular syaosaku scene because this actually means a lot to me. it makes me so emotional knowing that this kid thinks that she wont ever reciprocates his feelings because "sakura is kind to everyone she acts like that all the time! im just a regular friend in her very social life so the stuff we went through together didnt mean anything major really".

and the consequence of that was dismissing his own feelings/treating it as inconsequential for the sake of sakura's comfort
