Tori ♡ She/Her ♡ Ace Lesbian - Taken ♡ I write SFW and NSFW (NSFW hosted offsite) content! Minors please be aware! Currently Obsessed w/ : Isabela Madrigal main account: justagirlonline
Heyo! There's still a bit of a lul in Encanto/Reader fics even after the movie became available for purchase and also on Disney+, so I think I'll do some writing of my own! If anyone has any specific requests: Go ahead and suggest them!
I'm currently about; Isabel/Reader and Luisa/Reader, but I have some plans for a Past!Julieta/Past!Agustine story!
Don't be afraid to suggest Bruno/Reader, Camilo/Reader and Mirabel/Reader, just keep in mind the Y/N will be written as similar aged to their counterpart (38-50 for Bruno, and 14-16 for Camilo and Mirabel).
Hi, I hope you're doing alright! I thought of a prompt for you but it's completely understandable if you don't want to write it or uncomfortable.
So let's say Reader came from a less loving family, my thoughts are the complete opposite of how Pepa and Julieta are with the kids. Maybe when Reader somehow gets taken into their care and show them genuine care and love, Reader just breaks down. Pepa/Julieta would get so worried and urge them to explain so they do, in the end they promise to never treat Reader poorly or something?
Have a great day! I love your writing.
Did you get enough love, my little dove?
aww this is cute!! i hope you like what i came up with. sorry my posting schedule has been a little off lately, life has been super hectic.
Julieta Madrigal
You were adopted by the Madrigal family, specifically by Julieta. Your family had thrown you out into the street one day and since the woman was always in town, she witnessed the whole thing.
She felt so heartbroken for you, so without thinking she offered you a place to stay just for a little.
A little became days, then weeks, then months.
You always felt bad for staying in their home but whenever you tried to bring up leaving, the whole family would insist that you stay, especially Julieta.
She was like a mom to you, giving you small hugs at first but they slowly evolved into sloppy kisses and face cupping.
At first, you were hesitant to be affectionate with the woman, you had never experienced that and she wasn’t even your mother!
Still, she began to show you the same love she did to her biological children. It made you feel like you belonged somewhere.
The only thing she hadn’t done though is tell you that she loved you. You never felt worthy enough to to be told that by her anyway, you thought it should only be for her “real” children.
Deep down, you wanted her to tell you that too because having someone love you like you loved them was so unfamiliar yet something you wanted so badly.
It was a normal day and you were helping Julieta clean up after breakfast. You couldn’t help but notice that she was trying to be more affectionate than usual with you.
She would “accidentally” brush your hand with hers more often and gave you more forehead kisses than usual.
Honestly, it was strange because she was doing it so often all of a sudden but you couldn’t complain. You enjoyed it. It was like she was your real mom.
“Juli, what’s with you today?” you jokingly asked, making your way towards the sink with the dirty dishes in your hands.
You had started calling her this when you always got tounge twisted saying her full name. So she let you call her Juli, and it stuck.
She watched you walk away, smiling widely as she did so.
She loved you. A lot. She really did. But she never got around to saying it and thought that now would be the perfect timing.
Wiping the table, she said the phrase that could completely change your relationship with her forever.
“Well I can’t help it if I love you mi vida.”
You stopped in your tracks, frozen at the mention of those words. In fact, you were so in shock you dropped the glass plates you were holding. They fell on the floor and shattered completely.
No one had ever told you this before, and you didn’t know how to react. But it seemed that your heart acted before your brain because you found yourself tearing up immediately, breaking down in the middle of the kitchen. She had really said it. Said that she loved you.
You felt so many emotions at once. The love and care this woman gave you was unmatched. You realized how lucky you were to have her, she saved you.
Julieta scurried over, frantically looking around as she tried to figure out how the plates had fallen.
Did you trip? Or did she say the wrong thing? Whatever it was, it worried her.
“Ay mi vida! Don’t move! Are you hurt?” the woman fearfully asked, her eyes widening when she saw that you were crying.
She slowly put her hand out, moving the hands that covered your face and placed her hand there instead, cupping your cheek.
After caressing your cheek for a few seconds, she pulled you into a gentle hug. You hugged her back, holding her so tight as if she would get away.
Allowing a few sobs escape your lips, you tried to explain what had gotten you to feel this way.
Julieta held you close, your face buried in her neck. Her chest was wet with your tears but you were more than worth it. She had to figure out what was wrong so she could help her baby.
“Are you crying because you got hurt?” she asked.
You shook your head gently.
“Is it because… I made you upset?” she asked again.
You shook your head again, hugging her a little tighter.
Julieta prepared herself to ask the final question, her heart skipping a beat as she did so.
“Are you crying because…” she paused, fearing your two possible reactions from this “because I love you?”
You nodded, a small hiccup escaping your lips.
Pulling away, you looked up at the woman. Her expression was filled with worry and her chocolate eyes peered into your soul. Her lip quivered in fear that she hurt you and her eyebrows raised slightly, trying to figure out where she had gone wrong.
“I’m sorry if I hurt you I-“
“You didn’t hurt me” you said, cutting her off.
You both gasped at your sudden statement.
“I’m just shocked is all…” you looked away, eyes stuck to the ground as you nervously fidgeted with the hem of your shirt.
Your cheeks were tinted red and the glimmer of your tears decorated your cheeks. Your eyes shone with love and admiration, and Julieta couldn’t help but notice it.
“It’s just that… since I came from such a bad family and all that… I just thought that I’d never have a caring mother and if I did it would be taken away from me. I’m scared to lose what I love the most” you said.
“I’m scared to lose you” your voice broke as your eyes threatened to fill with tears yet again.
Relief had begun to flow through Julieta’s body and the air that had been stuck in her throat for so long had finally been released.
The woman looked into your eyes, a smile spreading across her tan cheeks.
“Mi corázon… I love you. So much. I promise that you will never lose me. I promise that you will never be treated as poorly as you were ever again. I promise that as your mother, I will love you forever.”
After every sentence, you found yourself smiling and happy tears began to pour out of your eyes. Realizing that you were crying again, you laughed at yourself.
Julieta’s smile matched yours, eyes filled with such strong love for you. She cupped your face and wiped away your tears.
Lightly kissing your nose, she touched foreheads with you.
“You are my treasure, mi amor, never forget that. You are my child and I will do anything for you. May uncertainty and fear never cross your path again” the woman said.
You both smiled widely, gazing into the depths of each other’s eyes.
“And may love and happiness always cross yours, mamá.”
Pepa Madrigal
Pepa was outside one day and it was raining. Hard. Well, she was the cause of the falling rain. She sat in a cornfield, feeling so upset.
That day was going so bad for her, everything she was doing for the town had required her to be in a bad mood. So here she was, watering the cornfield with her sadness and anger.
As she continued down her train of thought for who knows how long, she heard a few rustles around her, followed by a thud.
The woman got up, carefully trotting over to where the noise came from. Moving the large plants out of her way as she walked, she froze when she saw a person.
She saw you laying there, soaked with the rain she created. Touching you, you felt so cold. She knew she had to do something, and fast.
“Holy crap it’s a person… and they’re passed out! I gotta get them to Julieta, quickly!” the woman said, mother instinct kicking in as she picked you up and held you in her arms.
As she ran into town, she held you close to her chest, checking every 30 seconds to make sure you were still breathing.
After Julieta checked you, Pepa insisted that you stay with them until you woke up, just to make sure you would be okay.
She sat by your bedside the whole time, until you woke up.
When you woke up, she explained what had happened and apologized for raining on you. You told her you didn’t mind and that it was all right. You also explained that you didn’t faint because of her, you fainted because you hadn’t eaten in days.
Pepa made sure you were fed right away and she begged you to stay a little longer to make sure nothing else happened.
After learning that you didn’t have a family and that you were in your own, she spoke to her family privately, telling them that she wanted you to start living with them. You were a child that didn’t have a family, how terrible was that? She knew that she would want someone to do the same for her if it were her child.
Over time, you two got closer, creating more of a mother/child bond. To show her love towards you, she got you things she knew you liked or took you to fun places.
You never knew how having a real mother was like, so having this with her was really great for you.
Pepa was so kind and warm, like the sun. She was your sun, the center of your universe.
Sometimes she’d lay her head on your shoulder when you went cloud gazing or she’d hug you whenever you got hurt.
On special occasions, she’d give you little kisses all over your face. Honestly, you both enjoyed it more than you should have. But the both of you thought it would be weird to ask the other for more kisses.
Also, when you two went on walks together, she’d stoop down to your level where your hips were at an equal height and bump it gently.
The both of you also gave each other nose kisses. This consisted of you two touching noses and shaking your heads so that they would touch, almost as if your noses were kissing each other. It never failed to cause a rainbow above Pepa’s head.
You were so thankful to have her in your life. She saved you, and you couldn’t be more grateful for that.
You told her everything and she told you everything. That’s just how it was.
So when one day she told you she loved you, and that she saw you as her child, you couldn’t help but break down.
“Hey amorcito?” Pepa said, looking up at the sky.
“Yeah Pepita” you responded, casually.
“Can I tell you something? and if it’s weird… don’t hesitate to tell me to stop okay?”
“Sure.”
“Look… I really care about you… and I know I don’t say it enough but I love you. I really do. I’m so happy that I found you and our paths crossed” the woman said, keeping her eyes fixated on the sky as she blushed.
You took this all in. The reality of the situation finally hit you. This woman found you in a cornfield. She took you in her home, showing you genuine care and love, and even made you a part of her family. How lucky is that?
The thought of this made you cry. You looked at her, eyes filled with tears as you smiled. They began to pour out and you covered your face with your hands.
Pepa’s face went from a smile to total panic. A grey cloud appeared over her head.
“No, no, no… Don’t cry, I’m sorry! I’m so sorry!”
She sat up, heart racing as she thought she had just made the biggest mistake of her life.
Her mother instinct kicked in and she took your hands and pulled you up softly.
She placed one hand on your shoulder, the other caressing your face gently in efforts to comfort you.
You just sat there, sobbing silently. The woman studied your expression. Your cheeks were stained with tears and your nose was tinted pink. Your lips were slightly parted, cracking a little because they were so dry.
The woman then pulled you into a hug. You immediately hugged back, signifying that you were not upset with her.
Laying your head on her shoulder, she stroked your hair, occasionally kissing the top of your head. You played with her dress as tears continued to pour out.
“Mi bebe, what’s wrong? Please tell mami so she knows.”
Pepa often used speech like this in serious situations so it was normal to you.
Sniffling, you pulled away, sitting in front of the woman. She held your hand, interlocking fingers with you. She was so worried, seeing you cry wanted to make her cry. She was going to start raining any second now.
You took a deep, shaky breath before speaking “Sorry I freaked you out. It’s just that… I realized how lucky I am. I also realized that I am so weak and afraid. I need something to protect me. I need my sun.”
Pepa stared at you, wide eyed. Her mouth slightly agape as wind blew through her orange hair, a soft blush appearing on her pale skin.
You paused, looking down at the ground before you continued “I need my sun but I am also afraid to lose it. I am afraid that I will become alone again one day. I don’t want to lose what is most precious to me.”
Finally looking up at said woman, you saw tears streaming down her cheeks, followed by a light drizzle.
Her heart was beating out of her chest. She asked herself if you had really seen her as such an important person this whole time.
She let go of your hands, suddenly pulling you into another embrace. You gasped at the sudden movement and when you adjusted, you rested your head on her shoulder. She hugged you tighter than she ever had before.
“And you never will. I promise that I will never let anyone hurt you again. You will never feel the same way you once did…” the woman said, smiling as she took in your scent.
Drawing shapes in your back, she continued “You should’ve known that from that day on, you were going to be apart of the family, and that there was no turning back.”
You felt your tears become dry with the gusts of wind coming from every direction. The mixture of Pepa’s emotions truly was beautiful.
“I know I don’t say this very often, but I love you too mami.”
The sun shone brightly through the previously darkened sky. It rained while the sun shone at the same time. What was this called? A sun shower?
Well, whatever it was, it was beautiful, because it was created by the strong feelings of your beautiful mother, and you couldn’t be happier.
“Trust me, mi bebe, I love you so much!More than you could ever imagine” the woman exclaimed, pulled away as she planted kisses all over your face.
Your laugh echoed in her ears. If she could replay it over and over again, she would, because she loved you that much.
‘You only wanted to protect Bruno, but that leaves you with a very angry, very scared Pepa Madrigal.’

…
‘Run!’ You yelled at Bruno as you tried your best to keep the man at bay, locking your hands around the handle of the dagger and forcing it backwards.
Bruno seemed stunned into silence, and you could only hope that he would heed your command, that he wouldn’t try some act of hopeless bravery. But moments later, clear above your combined grunting as you fought for control of the blade, you heard his footsteps as he turned tail and sprinted away.
A wave of relief passed over you, an ill placed sense of calm even as you fought for your own wellbeing. Bruno was out of danger for the meantime, running home in search of help, extricating himself from the determined grip of this man. As long as Bruno made it to Casita he would be safe, protected by his siblings who held the same determination as you to protect your best friend.
With a shove you pushed the man away, almost falling over yourself with the momentum of it.
‘How dare you!’ You shouted, pushing back the hair that had fallen in front of your flushed face. ‘How dare you think you can hurt him just because the consequences of your own actions have come to bite you on the ass!’’
‘He’s cursed! Bad luck Bruno only brings terrible visions! He ruins peoples lives!’ He growled, the dagger in hand glinting warningly in front of him, brandishing it menacingly at you.
‘You asked him for a vision! How is it his fault that you messed up your own life!’
‘He’s trouble,’ he spat, pacing forwards, shoving the tip of the dagger to your chest. ‘He needs to be taught that - that he can’t do this to people! That he has no right in ruining our lives.’
You raised your head aloft, trying to look as imperious as you possibly could if only to negate the way your body trembled.
‘You ruined your own life, hijo de puta.’
‘You’re in no position to judge me,’ he hissed, a smirk curving at his lips as the dagger point lifted, pressing to your throat.
‘Perhaps,’ you said, willing your voice not to waver, ‘but Doña Madrigal will. And she’ll bring a far greater punishment than I ever could.’
‘I’ll take my chances.’
You breathed deeply, finding yourself praying for some kind of miracle in that moment.
‘You shouldn’t have gotten involved,’ he said eventually, his hand twitching. The blade bit at your skin. ‘You should’ve -‘
‘Left you to what? Kill the sweetest man in our Encanto?’ Your shoulders raised higher with your defiance and you had to fight down the smirk as you imagined the proud look in both Pepa and Julieta’s eyes at the statement. ‘I don’t think so.’
The blade lay flat at your throat, cold metal against your frantic pulse point.
‘It could’ve been so easy,’ he murmured to himself, and a sudden spark of hope flashed through you at the almost remorseful tone of his voice.
But then there was a blur of movement as he sprung forward and tackled you to the ground, immediately sitting astride you. With your arms pinned and his weight settled against your ribs, you had no room to scream, let alone a chance to escape.
His breath was laboured as he slammed a fist against your face, sharp pain blooming in nauseating waves. Your breath left you in an instant, hissed back haltingly through your teeth.
‘Should’ve stayed away,’ he growled, as he moved the knife back up-
‘Get your hands off of her!’
That familiar voice had hope blistering through your veins as the man scrambled upright, stumbling away from you. Pushing yourself up to your hands and knees you looked over to see three figures stood there, illuminated by the dazzlingly bright glow of one immensely angry Pepa Madrigal.
She was luminous in her rage and terribly, achingly beautiful.
The man behind you did not wait around, his footsteps frantic as he raced away.
‘Bastardo!’
Wincing, you made to climb to your feet before immediately finding yourself helped upright by two different pairs of hands.
‘Gracias,’ you murmured, as Julieta laid a steady hand on your shoulder, wide eyes roaming across your face.
‘Ay, Y/N,’ she muttered worriedly, blindly reaching into her dress pocket to retrieve a slightly squashed arepa. She cupped your cheek, practiced fingers skating agilely across your bruised skin as she indicated to you to open your mouth. ‘Lo siento,’ she apologised softly as you bit into the arepa, ‘it’s all I had on short notice.’
‘Still good,’ you mumbled gratefully around your mouthful, ‘as always, Juli.’
She pressed a kiss to your temple, just as she used to do when you were younger and you’d gotten yourself into another scrape.
‘Are you alright?’ Bruno asked, appearing next to his sister, his face pale and tight with worry. You could see the guilt in his eyes, a look you were accustomed to and hated. This man always shouldered the blame for a gift he’d never asked for, worn thin by the town's distrust of him. It made you want to scream. All the Madrigal triplets did was try; try to be good enough for a town that just kept taking from them.
You nodded, brushing the dirt from your top and tutting at the spots of blood before reaching out to playfully ruffle his hair.
‘I’m fine, I promise Brunito,’ you said softly, patting his cheek. ‘Don’t worry.’
‘Ay that’s good, isn’t it!’ Pepa’s voice suddenly bit into the silence, warbling and venomous.‘Señorita Idiota is fine so we shouldn’t worry, huh? Well why don’t we just go home, and forget all about it!’
You blanched, turning to Julieta and Bruno who wore equally confused expressions.
‘Pepa?’ You asked, taking a tentative step towards the still bristling woman. As ever, all you wanted was to help her, to work through what was bothering her and find a way to make her smile. But she didn’t give you a chance, not allowing you within touching distance and instead flinching away. With a sharp exhale, she turned her back on the three of you and stormed away, cloud sweeping after her as her ever loyal shadow.
‘Well,’ you said, turning back to Julieta and Bruno, ‘what the hell was that?’
…
You’d no sooner stepped through the door of Casita before Pepa jumped up from her seat at the table, agitated hands twisting in the fabric of her dress.
You’d fully expected not to see her when you got back, assuming she’d gone to brood in her room. Instead she seemed to have been waiting for you, the courtyard having seen an evident myriad of different emotions from her if the puddles on the floor and the blown over plant pots were anything to go by.
‘How could you be so reckless?’ Pepa shouted, circling the dinner table, absently kicking at a stuck out chair leg. Casita shoved the chair at her in silent protest but Pepa immediately slammed it into place, hands gripping fiercely to the back of it.
‘Me?’ You snorted, hackles raised at the accusation in her voice. You crossed your arms defensively as you watched her. The little black cloud that had once been hovering over her head sprawled out across the courtyard. ‘That’s a bit rich considering you’re the most reckless one of us all!’
The first drops of rain began to fall as you heard Bruno’s soft ‘uh oh’ from behind you.
’Well at least I’m not stupidly reckless, unlike some people!’ She threw you a glare that, under normal circumstances, would have sent you running but in that moment only added to your indignation. You couldn’t understand why she was so angry, when you had only done what you’d seen her do all her life: protect her family.
‘You’re calling me stupid now, huh?’
You gripped the back of the chair opposite her, eyes locked. The tension was tangible, the air thick and sparking.
‘Yes!’ She paused briefly, eyes searching your face before throwing her hands in the air. ‘Well yes and no. I’m calling your absolute lack of thought for your bloody well being stupid!’
‘Oh? And that's so different to you how?’
‘I have magic!’ The cloud swirling around you rumbled, blue black flickering with lightning as if to emphasise her point. ‘I can protect myself!’
She slammed a fist on the table, Casita clicking it’s tiles at her in animated irritation. Her head bent, she stared at the wood grain, chest rising and falling erratically. You’d seen her anger before, had seen her flash fire moods that turned on a coin's edge.
But this was different.
This was desperate, an undercurrent you didn’t understand, something else electrifying her reaction. But still, you could not help but bite back.
‘Right, so there’s one rule for you and another for me, huh? Just because I’m not magical like you? Is that what it is?’
Pepa’s head snapped up, fury written clear across her face. Her hair stood on end, red strands floating in a static halo as her fingers curled against the table. A quick dart of lightning fizzed across its surface, smoke rising from the burn.
You winced, swallowing down the immediate need to apologise and instead raised your head a little higher in defiance.
Rain poured in earnest.
‘Exit stage left, I think,’ Bruno murmured from behind you to Julieta, his voice jarring. You’d almost forgotten that the pair of you weren’t alone. ‘Before we get pursued by the angry bear.’
A small part of you wanted to ask them to take you with them, or at the very least stay to make sure she wouldn’t murder you on the spot. The rest of you, however, wanted this; wanted this explosion that had been building for months on end, even if it meant you were caught in the crossfire. This tension had been lingering between the two of you for months, the both of you dancing around something too big to name.
As Julieta and Bruno made a beeline for the stairs, Julieta stopped briefly at Pepa’s side. Leaning in she murmured something against her ear, too quiet for you to hear. But by the way Pepa shook her off, not once breaking your eye contact, you could only assume it was something Pepa didn’t want to hear.
Julieta sighed, briefly patting her sister on the shoulder and giving it a reassuring squeeze before hurrying upstairs.
Now it was just the two of you, a swirling storm wedged fiercely between you.
‘I make the rules because I know what I’m doing!’ She growled the words out, each one sharp.
You raised a goading eyebrow and she glowered in response.
‘Ok, I know what I’m doing most of the time, well sometimes.’ Her hands gesticulated wildly, her body always belying the things she didn’t say. ‘But we’re not going there right now, we’re talking about you! And how you need to stop throwing yourself in front of every sign of danger!’
‘It’s not every sign,’ you protested, hands balling to fists. ‘I was only trying to help! What did you expect me to do, watch Bruno get hurt because of something that was never his fault?’
‘I expected you to run with him, rather than offering yourself in his place!’
‘You never run!’ You spat back. ‘You always stand your ground so don’t you talk to me like I’m the only one who puts themselves in danger!’
‘But I have the fucking weather to protect me! It’s my job to protect my family, to protect the encanto,’ her breath came sharp and short as she rounded the table, just an arms breadth away from you. ‘It’s my job to protect you!’
‘You don’t have to, Pepa. I’m an adult who knows well enough what I can and can’t handle and I don’t…’ You swallowed thickly, heart thundering in your chest. ‘I don’t want that from you.’
Pepa stalked closer towards you and instinctively you took a step back as lightning crackled around her, spiralling through her unkempt hair and downwards, building at her fingertips.
‘I don’t care if that’s not what you want, because it’s going to happen every time. Every single time.’ She bit the words out, still coming towards you, steps purposeful, anger radiating in bright waves that seemed to illuminate her.
‘Why?’ You growled even as you backed away, stumbling backwards until your back met the wall. Casita’s bricks rippled, almost concerned. ‘Because you have some sort of hero complex? Because -‘
‘Because I said so!’ She roared, finally stood before you, hands slamming down either side of your head, caging you in.
For a moment all you did was breathe the same charged air. Hearts hammering fit to burst, both indignant and angry, faces just a fraction away from touching.
You tipped your head back against the wall, a growl of frustration rumbling in your throat before you grabbed hold of her shoulders, wanting to shake her hidden answers loose. Wild eyes met yours.
‘Mierda! Why can’t you just tell me the truth?’ Your chest heaved, brushing against hers. ‘Just this…’
Your words were swallowed in an instant as her lips met yours, almost bruising in their force as if she could somehow reveal the answers you sought by proximity alone.
For a moment you were frozen, shock ricocheting through you as the scenario you’d thought so impossible played out in your arms. But as she went to draw back, her anxiety clear in her frantic green eyes, you caught her face in your hands.
She stilled immediately.
‘Pepa,’ you murmured softly just to taste her name on your tongue.
‘Y/N, I -‘
You drew her back against you before she could say any more, kissing her with every last moment of longing you’d ever held for her. Stars danced behind your closed eyes as the taste of her invaded your senses, hands slipping from her cheeks to instead tangle in her wild hair.
One of her hands crept downwards, cupping your hip, fingers splayed against the soft curve. The other caught your jaw, framed by long fingers, turning it to fit your lips more perfectly together.
You whimpered into the kiss, an exhalation of utter joy as you twisted soft red curls around your fingers. She whimpered right back in primal answer.
She wanted you. She wanted you.
Reluctantly you both drew back for breath, matching shy smiles and flushed cheeks.
‘I mean as answers go that was certainly something,’ you breathed out, hands falling to her shoulders, her warm body pressed snugly against your own.
She gave you a skittering smile, cheeks pink but eyes still unsure, still wary even as she pressed her forehead to yours.
‘Do you finally see now?’ She asked quietly as she gently took your hands, bringing them down to rest between you. Her fingers circled your wrists.
‘I’m getting an idea, I think.’ You pulled back just an inch, looking at her with a cheeky smile. ‘Unless it’s customary for you to kiss everyone you get in an argument with.’
‘Far from it, Lo prometo.’ Her thumb traced your pulse point, and you wondered if she could feel the thrum of your heart; the heart that belonged unquestionably to her. ‘But do you see why I’m so -‘
‘Angry with me?’
‘Scared for you,’ she supplied quietly. ‘You see, I’m selfish.’
You frowned at her, fingers seeking hers before locking tightly around them
‘How could you ever be selfish?’
‘Because I’m afraid.’ Her eyes slipped closed at that as a light breeze tugged at your clothes. ‘I’m afraid of losing you, of watching you slip away and I’m not…’ her voice broke, just ever so slightly. ‘I’m not strong enough for that.’
‘Oh Pepa,’ you murmured, dropping her hands to instead throw your arms around her, burying your face against her neck. She clutched onto you, arms tight around your waist as she pressed her face to your still damp hair. ‘I'm sorry I scared you. I just couldn’t let that man hurt Bruno.’
‘I know, of course I know!’ You felt the flex of her muscles as she squeezed you tighter. ‘And I didn’t mean to get so angry, but seeing you there beneath him.’ She breathed in deeply, a sudden burst of wind buffeting through the courtyard. ‘I thought I was too late and I couldn’t…’
She pushed you back a step, hands sure and soft as they cupped your face.
‘I have loved you for so long that I couldn’t imagine a world without you. I just - I would never recover.’
Words failed you, brain short wiring at her earnest confession. Instead you did the only thing you could, drawing her down to kiss you in the vain hope that your touch would express the overwhelming tide of your emotions.
‘Querida,’ the name slipped from your tongue too easily to stop, ‘I’m not going anywhere, I promise.’ Another kiss as if branding your words against her skin. ‘I love you far too much to leave you.’
‘You love me, ay?’ Her fingertip bopped against the end of your nose as she tried and failed to hold back her tears.
‘Eres el amor de mi vida.’
A wounded little whimper burst from her mouth as she curled around you once more, kiss after kiss pressed to every inch of skin she could find before finally pressing her lips to yours.
You did the only thing you could do. The only thing you ever wanted to do for as long as you lived.
You kissed her back.
…
‘Te lo dije.’
‘You cheated!’ Julieta whispered angrily. ‘You can literally see the future…’
Pepa flipped a middle finger behind her as she traced kisses down your throat, voice vibrating against your skin.
Hey! I saw your requests are open! How about Bruno dearest x reader with the prompt “Are you ashamed of me?”, hopefully some angst with fluff at the end? Can’t wait to see what you make of it 😊💛
Hi! I wanted to start this by saying thank you personally for giving me my first request, you're the best! I also wanted to thank everyone who interacted with my post and left a request, it really means a lot to me. All the ones I've gotten so far will be written! I work throughout the week though,so there might be some time between them, but I will write them I swear!
This request was a fun challenge as I never write angst because I'm a big baby when it comes to sad stuff, but I hope I did right by you with this writing!

Angst with a fluffy ending
--
Y/N found themselves outside of Bruno Madrigal's vision cave, as they did everyday. Bruno sat in the sandy chamber, his forehead pressed against his knees, a bright emerald slab glowing in the sand beside him.
"Bruno?" You spoke softly as you approached. "What's wrong cariño?" You knew the question was stupid the second it left your mouth, you knew exactly what was wrong when you asked.
He dropped one hand from his knees onto the tablet beside him and held it up for you to look at. His hand hit the sand with a soft pelt when the weight left it, your brow quirked up in confusion as you started at Bruno's vision.
"A dead fish?" You whispered, unsure of what that could possibly mean. Finally, he raised his head and you realized how tired he looked, the bags under his green eyes were thick and dark.
"I saw her pet goldfish dying yesterday and today pfft," he blew a raspberry, dramatically putting his thumb down in front of you. "She came back today calling me a murderer, a bad omen, a freak," he spoke, dejected.
You frowned, watching your love retreat back into himself. You hated that Bruno's gift left him with a bad reputation in Encanto. Why could no one seem to understand that he didn't cause these futures, he merely saw them. Maybe they just needed someone to blame for their shortcomings and the person they chose to bear that burden was the youngest Madrigal son.
"Amor," You frowned, reaching forward to take both of his hands into your own. "Let's get out of here, you need a break from this place and the fresh air might do you some good.”
“I can’t go out in public Y/N, you know what’s waiting for me out there. They’ll be all like ‘oh look it’s Bruno Madrigal the creepy future seeing goldfish slayer’. It’ll be better for you if you aren’t seen out with a weirdo like me-”
“Bruno Madrigal,” You spoke sternly before he could finish. “Don’t you dare finish that sentence.” His lips pressed into a thin line as you spoke and you stood slowly, prompting him to stand with you. “You are not a weirdo and I don’t ever want to hear you call yourself that again, entiendes?”
He nodded, eyes trained on your hands, “I just...don’t know if it’s a good idea Y/N, I could just wait for you here and-” he was cut off once again, this time by you leaning forward and pressing a soft kiss to his cheek.
“Please Brunito?” You asked in the sickliest sweet tone you could manage. “When I stopped by the bakery this morning Senor Herrera was putting a fresh batch of pandebono in the oven. If we leave now we’ll get it while its still hot.” The pair of you had a puppy dog eye contest that you would inevitably win before you made your way into town. The horrified gazes people gave you pair as they whispered amongst themselves was making you more self conscious than you thought it would as you walked through the plaza.
“How could they be seen with him,” one woman whispered.
“Such a shame to see someone like them end up with a troublemaker like him,” another added.
The men, women, and children that usually greeted you with beaming smiles stayed clear of your path and wouldn’t meet your eyes as you walked with the Madrigal man. Most of the baker's customers cleared out the second the two of you stepped inside, the few that stayed gawked like you had a second head growing out of your neck while you ordered,
“Good morning Señor Herrera!” You exclaimed.
“Buenos dias Y/N,” the usually enthusiastic baker spoke in an abnormally unenthused tone that made your heart sink. "How can I help you today?"
"Two pandebolos with cafe please."
He didn't say another word or look you in the eyes as he gave you your bread and rang you up. Bruno began telling you about his day when you'd sat down, but all you could focus on was the way people who you'd previously called friends now looked at you in disdain.
"Y/N?" Bruno asked, promoting you to bring your focus back to the man in front of you. "Are you alright mi vida?"
You nodded just a little too quickly to be believed and he turned to see what you'd been so distracted by.
"My cafe needs more sugar!" You exclaimed, standing so quickly that your chair fell behind you, only adding your embarrassment. "I was looking at the table with sugar and leche on it back there. Do you need anything?"
The dark haired man eyed you suspiciously, but shook his head no. You tried to ignore the gazes that burned holes into your body as you walked to the small table. You gave a small smile to the woman and child already standing there, you recognized them, you’d helped the mother locate her child after he'd gotten lost in the dense jungles surrounding town. They didn’t smile when the noticed you approaching though, instead the young mother grabbed her son by the wrist and pulled him away as quickly as she could. You faltered, standing in place while they watched you closely as if you were some dangerous animal and when you stepped forward, they flinched.
It was too much, you turned on your heels and rested your hand on Bruno’s shoulder. “Let’s go Bruno, please.” He looked over his shoulder at you, mouth stuffed with the savory bread.
“Are you sure? We just got here and you haven’t even touched your pan,” he questioned once he swallowed the food in his mouth. He had just begun to relax despite the glares and whispers, you always made him feel better. The small corner where you were sat quickly calmed him as he had only his beloved to look at, it was like his own perfect little world.
“I’m sure, we can take it back to your place,” you responded, once again just a little too quickly for comfort. “I’m sure the rats would appreciate some bread anyway, just please.”
He nodded, more concerned for you than anything else as he stood from the table, the still warm bread wrapped in a towel in his hands. You glanced quickly over your shoulder to the people who watched you and your boyfriends movements carefully, an action that didn’t go unnoticed by Bruno. He turned to see what was bugging you and his heart dropped as he realized now why you were suddenly so eager to leave. Bruno always felt like he wasn’t enough for you, everyone in Encanto adored you and it was obvious how they felt about him. He knew he’d drag your reputation through the mud because he was Bruno and he always ruined everything for the people he loved the most.
He felt your body tense when he reached down between you and caught your hand in his own and although didn’t tear your hand from his, the action hurt him deeply. He noticed the way you held his hand looser than normal and the way yours eyes darted between the people around you nervously. You both sat at the long table in silence when you made it back to Casita, occasionally a rodent would skitter onto the table to graciously accept any crumbs you were willing to part with and break the tension. You left swiftly after you’d finish eating, pressing a quick kiss to your boyfriends cheek and telling him you’d see him again tomorrow before exiting the house.
--
You hadn’t tried to set up another date in public with Bruno for a few days following the incident, instead opting to stay inside for what you called ‘quality time’ together. He knew it was bullshit, he knew how much you hated being cooped up inside and he knew how much you loved to be under the warm sun. His stomach twisted at the thought of you being too embarrassed to be seen with him, but he wouldn’t be surprised, he’d be embarrassed to be seen in public with him too. His thoughts raced as his head rested on your chest while your fingers ran through his dark locks.
“How about we go out today? Pepa was telling me that Senor Herrera has started experimenting with new bread recipes, she brought back like 7 loaves yesterday so they must be good,” he suggested quietly, peeking up at you though his lashes.
You shook your head allowing your hand rest atop his head, “If Pepa bought so many then why don’t we just ask her to share one? I’ll replace it tomorrow when I come by.”
“Well why take hers when we can go pick up our own mi vida? The bakery isn’t far and the bread will be warm and fresh if we go pick it up, besides the fresh air would do us some good. We’ve been spending way too much time inside.”
Your lips pressed into a thin line, “I just want to stay inside with you amorcito, why do we have to go out?”
Bruno sighed, removing himself from your chest and staring at you with piercing green eyes, “Because you always want to go out Y/N, in all the years I’ve known you this is the most time I’ve ever seen you spend inside. What’s wrong with a short walk to the bakery?”
“And you never want to go outside,” you countered, a dry chuckle following your words. “Nothing is wrong with walking, I just don't feel like going out. Maybe I’m just doing what you want for once.”
“Or maybe,” the dark haired man mumbled to the floor. “You're embarrassed to be seen with me.”
“What?” You questioned, eyes wide in shock and horror at his words. "Don't be ridiculous amor, where are you getting this from?" You played dumb, hoping he'd drop the subject.
“You seriously think I didn’t notice how you all of the sudden wanted to leave the bakery after you suggest we go there Y/N? You think I haven’t noticed the way you look around to see if anyone's watching us when I say my goodbyes to you outside?” he spoke softly, but each word drove a nail into your heart as you realized how terrible you’d been. “You think I didn't notice how you look around to make sure no ones watching before you let me kiss you goodbye?"
You sat in stunned silence, you wanted to tell him that he didn't know what it was like to have people stare at you like you were a monster, but he knew exactly what it was like, people looking at you like a monster was Bruno Madrigals whole life. Your heart went heavy with guilt as you realized that he was right, you’d been treating him horribly, you had made him think that you were embarrassed of him. Tears began welling up in your own eyes as you searched for the right thing to say.
“Are you ashamed of me Y/N?" He asked, eyes glazed over with tears. The question was like a punch to the gut, it sucked the air out of you as he spoke. "It’s okay if you are, I would be too. I mean look at me, I’m a freak who’s never done anything right in his life. No matter how hard I try I just can't make anyone happy-”
“Bruno.” You interrupted as tears started rolling down his cheeks.
“I ruin everything for everyone, even the people I love, I even managed to ruin this!" He motioned between you two as he spoke. "Maybe everyone’s right, you’re too good for me and this relationship should've never started in the first place-”
"Bruno." You tried again, the sound of your heart shattering in your ears far too loud to hear anything else Bruno was saying. You weren't mad at him, you couldn't be, you did this to yourself. Tears fell freely from your eyes as you tuned yourself back in to what he was saying.
“They’re never going to stop looking at you that way until you distance yourself from me. Y/N, you mean the world to me, but this relationship is going to ruin your reputation. They’re going to ostracize until this ends, it has to end. I can't ruin you any further, I love you too much to let you ruin yourself Y/N."
Your heart was pounding against your ribcage, you hadn’t exchanged ‘I love you’s’ yet and he just said it, but not under the circumstances you'd hoped he would. You couldn't stop yourself, you surged forward, wrapping your arms tightly around his neck and burying your wet face into it. You thought he'd push you away and ask you to leave, you'd understand if he did after the way you'd made him feel, but he didn't. He didn't hug you back either though and after a few moments of him not reciprocating, you pulled away, wiping at the tears on your cheeks and sending him a small, sad smile. You understood, you did this to yourself,
"You're wrong Bruno," you finally spoke. "You didn't ruin this, I did. How could I ever be deserving of you when I'm just as bad as everyone else?" He stared back at you, eyes wide, but not moving, you took his hands gently, "I wish you nothing but happiness from this point forward Bruno, even if it isn't with me and I'm so sorry for how I've treated you these past few days, it was wrong of me to give into my own insecurities. You are the most amazing thing that's ever happened to me Bruno Madrigal, and you are not a freak. You're an amazing man blessed with an amazing gift that's gonna help so many people, you're just misunderstood and I feel so lucky to have loved and to have been loved by-" You were cut off, this time by Bruno surging forward and pressing his lips to yours. His mouth smashed onto yours a little too roughly and you were sure that your lip would be bleeding when you pulled away, but you wrapped yourself around him again, a small sigh of relief escaping your mouth while you kissed. If this was the last time you'd ever kiss Bruno Madrigal, you were happy for such a beautiful goodbye. You weren't sure who broke the lip lock, but another sad smile overtook your features when it was over.
"I love you too, Bruno, and I'm so sorry that I ruined us," you spoke, tone gentle as you cupped his cheek lightly. He said nothing as you turned and made your way out of Casita, you broke once the door closed behind you. You had almost made it home before you heard a shout behind you,
"Y/N! Y/N wait please!"
You turned to see your now ex boyfriend running after you, arms flailing as he yelled. The people of Encanto stared at him in confusion and concern as he ran over to you.
"Bruno? What's wrong?" you asked, a spark of a hope igniting in your heart as he came closer.
"Give me a second," he said, doubling over and breathing heavily. "I need to catch my breath, you walk really fast for a person with short legs you know." You stood in silence until he revealed why he'd chased after you. "You forgot something," he finally spoke, snuffing out any hope you'd previously felt.
"Oh," you spoke, trying not to sound too disappointed. "Thank you." You held your hand out, waiting for him to drop whatever it was you'd left behind in your palm. Nothing fell though, instead Bruno placed his hand in yours and smiled awkwardly, you looked at him in bewilderment.
"It's me," he explained once he'd realized that you didn't understand. "You forgot me...okay that doesn't make any sense. What I'm trying to say is that I'm sorry for saying that this, that we should've never happened. I love you Y/N, more than anything else. I was just hurt and I know that isn't an excuse and I know that I'm an idiot for letting you go, but I just-"
A bright smile spread across your features as he spoke and you pulled him closer, pressing your lips to his in a tender kiss. It took him a bit to kiss you back, but when he finally did he scooped you up in his arms, causing you to laugh against his lips. You stood in silence for a few seconds, foreheads pressed against each other as you basked in his warmth.
"I love you mi cariño, but you talk too much" you whispered, before leaning down to catch his lips for another soft kiss.
You could feel the stares of the people around you. They burned holes in your skin just like they had in the bakery, but you didn't care about them, you had the greatest gift you could ever ask for in Bruno Madrigal.

“Tía Y/N!”
You sighed and rolled your eyes affectionately as the door to your room opened and your youngest niece entered, quickly pulling you.
“What’s wrong Mirabel?” you asked, trying not to sound too worried
“Mom’s doing it again”
You sighed. Of course, that woman would never learn the easy way.
“Don’t worry, mi amor, I’ll take care of it” you smiled at your favorite niece and gave her a kiss on the cheek before leaving to look for your sister.
