love was a mysterious thing. it allowed for strange things to happen, opening your eyes to the unexpected. it pushes you towards the edge, allowing you to let go of your fears and face the world. but at the same time, it could pull you back in, a breath of fresh air after a lifetime of drowning. love was truly blinding.
this, however, was just weird.
“мой свет, come back!”
“no way!” childe had always been a bit of a pain. okay, a lot of pain. knowing him, you knew what you were getting into when you agreed to start dating him. but at this point, you might just lose it.
"i didn't mean it!"
"liar!"
coming back home, you had been surprised by your boyfriend nearly tackling you from behind. that on its own would have been fine, but then his next actions…
“мой свет-”
had thrown you off.
“do you moy- moy- affectionately call me some snezhnayan name me, childe.”
“i didn’t know-”
“nope, don’t want to hear it.”
you headed towards the small closet by the front door. pulling the door open and rummaging through it, you eventually found what you were looking for.
"мой свет please-" the ginger paused for a moment. he fell to his knees in front of you, hands held in a prayer as he looked towards you. "forgive me, i don't like it when you're mad. i'm sorry! forgive me, pleeeeeease-"
he threw in his best attempt at puppy eyes. seeing the usually fierce and greatly feared harbinger at your mercy, you couldn't help but let out a laugh.
"okay, okay… but you're cleaning up the mess this time."
"on it!"
he grabbed the mop, the item which you had been holding. you watched as he began marching his way towards the kitchen.
love, it seems, made childe do stupid things. in this case, he had tried his hand at seducing you using his vision. a few small hydro arrows locked and loaded, aimed straight at you as you had been in the kitchen. it would have been fine were in not for the mess it had made. you had just cleaned the house too!
"sorry for the mess, Моя любовь!"
love was a mysterious thing.
"you better be! almost ruined dessert because of it!"

the art of stealth was not an easy one to perform. it took caution, a type of grace and elegance, the ability to be quick on your feet and not make little to no noise. it took a lot of training and practice in order to pass by undetected.
as a citizen of the undercity, this was an art you needed to perfect the moment you were born. for the sake of your survival, you were able to.
in all honesty, you didn’t know why you were following jinx in the first place, using what you learned over the years so she wouldn’t know you were there. you especially made sure to keep your shadow in mind, keeping an eye on possible sources of light. it had been something your girlfriend pointed out one day while you were trying to sneak up on her.
maybe you had wanted to make sure she was safe. maybe it was because you wanted to be able to see her in action, something you didn’t have the joy of seeing often. maybe you didn’t want to die by silco’s hand if something were to happen to her. either way, you found yourself looking down from a pier, using the arch to better hide in case someone were to for some reason look in your direction.
watching jinx take aim at the two opponents was captivating. it was a beautiful balance between passionate and calculated, a warped showcase of grace and elegance not so different from your own. one of the people in front of her was a young woman, seemingly from the undercity from what you could see, with pink hair; her red jacket and bandaged arms immediately caught your eye. though if she were from the undercity, you were pretty sure you would have remembered her. she sort of reminded you of the sister jinx would often talk about. the second young woman was obviously from the topside, the posh energy that radiated off of her something you were able to feel all the way from your hiding place. the girl you had grown fond of seemed to be winning- something you would be able to celebrate with her later.
then, he appeared.
you weren’t able to tell where he had come from, only that he came flying in on some board of sorts.
shit.
did the posh girl call for reinforcements somehow? you needed to get down there and help your girlfriend.
you jumped down from your location, using the cracks and imperfections of the structure to minimize the impact and possible noise from the landing. as you looked around, you remembered something. your girlfriend can handle herself. what she lacks in strength she makes up with intelligence. it would be a slight blow to her pride if you waltzed in like some knight. finding some rubble to hide behind, you watched the white-haired person stand in front of jinx.
tick, tick, tick, tick
was that a pocket watch?
tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick
knowing jinx as long as you had, you knew that she was rather… spontaneous with what she does. she would take aim at the threat and start firing. instead, she paused, only positioning herself to shoot like she was playing paintball. did she put her gun away? why was she hesitating? did she know this person? or was she just as confused as you were, actually taking a moment to think of what her next move would be?
as soon as the last question crossed your mind, you curled up into a ball from where you were. most, if not all, of jinx’s plans involved explosions- you wanted to make it out of this alive.
tick, tick, tick, ti-
it took you a moment to process that the sound stopped suddenly. you couldn’t help but peek over the rubble, wanting to know what was going on. as you did, the white haired boy lunged towards jinx, expertly dodging her attacks. the pipe in his hands seemed to have popped out of nowhere, knocking your girlfriend onto the ground. you heard her groan, which snapped you out of your slight trance.
“jinx!” you jumped up, charging towards the attacker. he looked up in your direction, not having the time to comprehend what you were doing before you knocked him over onto the ground. you didn’t know where you found the strength to, but keeping him on the ground with your heel to his neck, you grabbed jinx’s gun from the ground. when had that gotten there?
you heard your own name being called out from behind you before it happened.
the next thing you remember was the blinding light. then the burning sensation quickly spreading through your right leg as you instinctively covered as much of yourself as you were able to. for a moment, you felt yourself succumb to unconsciousness. when you came to, you found the boy gone, and jinx lying on the ground.
you moved to stand, but the burning pain shooting up your leg anchored you to the ground. taking a deep breath, you tried again. it wasn’t the best decision you’ve ever made, but you needed to make sure jinx was still alive. with determination and all the strength you could muster, you began to crawl your way over to her.
the sound of footsteps made you pause. panicking, you tried moving faster. was it more enforcers? were they going to arrest you? what would they do to jinx if they got their filthy, corrupted hands on her? what if-
“jinx!”
silco.
you watched him run past you and towards the blue-haired girl.
one of the goons by silco’s side went to help you up. he practically carried you with the way you pushed most of your weight onto him. once you were able to see more clearly, you watched from behind as he picked her body from the ground, holding her close. as he got up to leave with her, something caught everyone’s attention.
the gemstone, glowing a bright blue in jinx’s hand.

you never really liked the rain.
it had been raining when you got the call. the day was supposed to be one of much deserved relaxation, doing nothing but having take-out in your pajamas and watching shows on streaming sites. college was a bitch, and it was finally the beginning of break. then, your phone rang on the coffee table. seeing the number coming from your hometown, you decided it wouldn't hurt to answer it.
maybe you shouldn't have.
"it's with deepest regret that maybelle parker was found deceased in the early hours of the morning. she had succumbed to injuries after an explosion. i'm so sorry for your loss."
you heard something fall to the floor, most likely your phone, but you were in too much shock to care. the next thing you knew, you were on the next flight out to new york.
"how did you know her?"
"through spiderman."
you felt like you were intruding something as you walked to your aunt's grave. you knew you shouldn't have, as you had every right to be there. she's your family. the only family member you had left after your parents and uncle ben died.
well, she was the only one you had left, anyways.
the tears weren't noticed until a breeze had passed, nibbling on your skin. you quickly wiped them away with your free hand, the other tightly gripping the bouquet of flowers you bought. you moved closer to where your aunt rested, not paying much attention to the two also present as you set the bouquet down.
the older of the two looked at you, asking you the same question you heard him as earlier.
"she was my aunt. well, technically adopted but-" you shook your head and smiled sadly before returning the question.
"we were briefly seeing each other before, you know…"
"oh, so you're happy?" you remembered may mentioning a new boyfriend once while you two were talking over the phone once.
happy nodded.
you then turned to the other person there. he was younger, around your own age. he had his hood up, so you couldn't make out much.
it was a few more minutes before the stranger turned to walk away. you couldn't help but watch him go, seeing the awkward shift he made as he seemingly pondered the idea of staying. despite not speaking, he seemed so familiar, but you couldn't place your finger on it.
why did he remind you so much of someone?
not being able to answer this bothered you. it didn't leave your head, even after you left the graveyard with happy and eventually for your apartment. unlocking the door, you heard something drop in the halls. out of curiosity, you looked over- only to see the stranger from before, a box on the floor in front of him.
"is everything okay?" you asked.
the young man nodded.
there was a more or less awkward moment of silence between the two of you. after who knows how long, the brunet spoke.
"i'm peter," he introduced himself. "sorry for not saying anything earlier at the- anyways, just moved in-" the stranger, peter, paused, looking in the direction you had come from. "right across from you." a faint smile appeared on his face. he held out his hand.
it took you a moment before you realized his actions were initiating a handshake. you stated your name as you took his hand.
you thought you felt peter tense, but he had relaxed his muscles too fast for you to confirm it.
"guess i'll see you around, peter."
over the weeks, you noted a few things about this peter person. he was a bit nerdy, shy, quiet. he was a big fan of the science-fiction genre, often making references towards it. but what really stood out was the fact that there was always a look of what you could only describe as pain and guilt when the two of you talked.
you thought that seeing peter often meant you'd be able to hopefully find out who he reminded you of. for reasons unknown, he reminded you of aunt may. his smile mirrored hers, and they both fidgeted with whatever was in their hands when they were thinking. but no, it couldn't be her peter reminded you of. but other than may, you couldn't think of anyone similar to your neighbor. the mystery bothered you- sometimes even going as far as keeping you up at night, your only company being the rain dropping onto your windowsill.
author’s note: WOW OKAY- it’s been a minute since i’ve posted a fanfic. (i haven’t posted since late july-) sorry for my long absence, i’ll try to work on managing my time between college and writing better in the future </3. anyways, have some- whatever this is- for my (very slow) comeback.

“under the reign of the almighty raiden shogun, the tenryou commission has declared the vision hunt decree- the seizing of all visions within the borders of inazuma.”
you knew the words by heart. in fact, you were in the crowd on the day it was announced. yet you found yourself there again, rereading the words now engraved into your mind. you just couldn't stop yourself from pausing at the sight of every announcement on the topic.
everyone within the nation reacted differently to the news. some had remained indifferent going about their lives as usual. others tried to flee, not wanting to risk the loss of their visions. the braver citizens united and, from what you’ve heard, formed a resistance of sorts. those were admirable souls, you had to admit. to openly go against something the raiden shogun herself authorized-
the call of your clan's name startled you for a moment, causing you to look away from the poster on one of the walls of inazuma city. shifting slightly to stop your own hidden vision from poking at your skin, you turned to find the source of the voice. it didn't take you longer than a second to see who had called you, for by then she was standing a few feet away. tall and elegant, general kujou sara gave a momentarily slight smile, arms crossed as she greeted you.
“hey sara!” you pushed the words of the poster away, hugging sara for a moment in greeting. “what are you doing out? no work today?”
sara shook her head. “there have been reports of another vision holder around the area.” she stated. “and i saw you, so i thou-”
“i’m fine.” you cut her off. “nothing to worry about, really.” despite being together for a while, the execution of the vision hunt decree was something you weren’t used to. so, you tried avoiding the subject as often as you could. “go, get back to work. before any of your subordinates get the wrong idea of you slacking off.”
“who would be under that impression?” she asked, eyebrows slightly furrowed as she tried to decipher any hidden meaning behind your words. in response, you subtly motioned to a few soldiers nearby, evidently watching the two of you interact. there were about four or five of them. you watched as sara’s expression turned into a frown, scoffing at them.
“inoue, uesugi,” she addressed the two in the front. “you and your colleagues already have your given orders.”
she didn’t need to say anymore. the soldiers immediately stood in attention, splitting off to do whatever it was they were told to. once they were gone, you looked towards the general, a grin spread across your face.
“you should go do what you need to do as well,” you said. “i’ll see you later?” there was no guarantee she would say yes, but there wasn’t any harm for trying.
sara only nodded.
the two of you had planned on going out for once for a date. you wanted sara to get some fresh air without the tension automatically put on her while performing her duties. it had taken a lot of carefully spoken words to get her to agree with this, phrasing it as training of sorts, but on etiquette rather than with weapons. unfortunately, an inhumane amount of paperwork was given to sara at the very last minute. that was how you found yourself inside your shared home, reading a book while sara worked across the room. at least the two of you were spending time together.
you looked up when you heard your name. sara was scanning the room, looking for something. “i misplaced some mission reports. can you see if they’re by the tableside in the bedroom?”
“of course!” she watched as you walked away, glancing back towards the papers in front of her when you were no longer in her line of sight.
“kujou…” the woman in question looked up as you returned a few minutes later. the first thing she noticed was your lack of eye contact, which was rather uncommon for you. that, and the fact that you referred to her by her last name.
“is something the matter?” despite the concern her words conveyed, her tone stayed as neutral as it always was.
“were you going to-” your eyes stayed on the document in your hands. “...forcefully take my vision? i thought that wasn’t something you did.”
“force isn’t a method i partake in.” she agreed, standing up. so you found that document. “the commission has almost seized one hundred visions, and we’ve started to be pressured to achieve that goal-”
you scoffed, cutting her off.
“you know what? here.” you reached into your coat, taking out your pyro vision, which glowed in your hands. you slowly walked towards her, tossing it onto her desk. she could see it in your eyes as a part of you broke, watching the red light from it dim out of your reach.
“perhaps this was for the best.” you stated. “it would make your almighty mission given by the raiden shogun a bit easier to accomplish.” with that, you turned around, walking towards the front door of your humble abode.
“goodbye sara.”
all she could do was watch as you walked out of your shared home and out of her life.
sara sat up, trying to erase the events of the dream from her mind. she looked in your direction, allowing her heartbeat to slow down at the sight of your sleeping form. the soft glow of your pyro vision caught her eye, and the events flashed before her eyes again.
she looked away, watching the violet glow of her own vision beside her. with the light, she was able to see the folder containing the dreaded document that plagued her tonight.
the contents were about you. specifically, your schedule and ways to intercept if necessary. the pressure was getting to some of the tenryou commission members, so sara was given what had to have been her most difficult order to follow through with.
seize the vision of your lover.
she couldn’t disobey her orders, but she couldn’t bring herself to hurt you like that either. though she has tried not to, the general had seen some of the effects it had on a person when their vision was taken away from them. so she had to choose.
allow you to keep your vision, directly disobeying orders. or, follow orders and watch as time passes, and the passion within you that she had fallen for fade and burn out like coals ignited by your vision.
so i gave my profile a little makeover <3 i also changed my url, which was originally @nikki-intheory with the yanfei pfp in case you're wondering who i am and why this random is popping up in your notifications!

• zhongli makes you tea. it has a lot of good health properties, but most importantly, it will help you sleep is what he says.
sometimes, or a lot of the time, sleep isn't his biggest fan either, so he takes you to sit outside the balcony to watch the stars or the sunrise. mostly in silence, but on particularly bad or harder days, he hums, sings or starts to dance you around in the darkness to calm you down. maybe even run his hands up and down sore spots on your body to lightly press on them.
plus, he makes sure to take away and and all distractions from you so that you could have a chance at maybe falling asleep and lasting throughout the night.
it becomes second nature to him to hum your favorite song, or the lullaby he heard a long time ago, whenever the sun sets and you're laying in his arms and absentmindedly tracing patterns up and down your arm and when your breathing relaxes, he asks if you're still awake, just in case.
he's also very still when he sleeps and the only time he would ever accidentally wake you up is because a part of his dragon self just decided to pop by for a visit and bless curse him a fraction of the loudest snore known to man.
• kaeya is half pleasantly surprised and half concerned when he comes home after work and you're nowhere near asleep. or as soon as he crawls into bed with you, you're staring at him and asking him how his day was even though he was positively sure that you were snoring away softly when he got back.
he asks you every night how he can be able to help you.
in the morning, when you get up in a particularly horrible mood, it confused him a little, until he realizes that it was because of how badly you had slept the night before. he would then slip away from the knights' headquarters during his morning breaks to take naps with you, if you sleep easier in the morning or to help you relax with a walk around town, a meal, or just cuddling on the sofa.
• thoma / tohma, no matter how many times he's done it, will always be excited to fall asleep next to you and when he finds out that sleep doesn't come easy to you, he will make it a point to try to tire your mind with his endless stories of this and that.
as the night drifts by, the stories become more and more strange and his words slur together, but no amount of you reassuring him that it's alright for him to sleep will convince him to because he shakes his head, slaps his cheeks with his hands simultaneously, and will muster up more things to talk to you about until one - or both of you - fall asleep.
tohma moves a lot in his sleep, so the squirming tends to rattle you awake, but no matter. because he wakes up from the sound of you standing up to go try to do something to put you back to sleep and will gladly accompany you to the garden to walk around.
• ayato tends to still be awake with you most of the nights that your mind and body can't seem to allow you to sleep. the only difference between you both would be that you laid in bed, waiting for him, while he sat at his desk in the room right across yours scribbling away at papers, maps and files.
the instances where you would fall asleep before him were very rare, and as much as he wants to watch you calm and relaxed, the door to your room - that for whatever reason - creaks when it opens awakens you before that happens and you're as awake as you were earlier that night. or morning. he considers his best days as the days that he catches you clinging on to his pillow and curled up in a strange position with your eyes shut and lips parted slightly, he teases you about drooling onto his pillow.
ayato will try his best to lull you back to sleep first, but the weight of his responsibilities have him knocked out as soon as his head hits the pillow and your hands card through his hair. before he goes down for the count though, he will stroke your cheek with his thumb, asking you about your day and if he should ask ayaka to take over the business tomorrow so you both can sleep in.
warning(s): children, spoilers of childe’s backstory (real name used), retirement
word count: 0.7k words
date of post: june 27, 2021
author’s note: i gave myself a tooth ache writing this. after an infinite amount of writer’s block and two rewrites, this (whatever the hell this is) is the result. not exactly what i was expecting to finish with but oh well. i’ve become a simp for this man, send help-
“onward, comrade!”
“onward!” two pairs of footsteps trod across the snow, circling the trees in search of nothing in particular.
childe remembered when the two children playing in the snow were you and him. the both of you thought you were on top of the world, oblivious to the events unfolding beyond the borders of the small village of morepesok.
that was before he fell into the abyss and his life took a different turn. however, despite all of the darkness that came out with him, you were still there, supporting him. he knew how hard it must have been to do so, the looks and remarks you must have gotten from staying in close contact with someone in the fatui- and eventually becoming intimate with said member. sometimes, he wondered if it was worth it, dragging you along with him when it should have only been his burden to bear.
it was, he thought while watching his kids walk around the front yard, pretending to explore teyvat. after a few minutes, they began fighting with fake weapons. from what he could see, they were most likely swords. he stood from his seat on the porch swing, wanting to give them a few pointers.
before he could walk over, however, a gloved hand gently grabbed a hold of his wrist, holding him back.
"let them have their fun," your voice was soft, yet had an almost commanding tone that childe had become all too familiar with in the years he's known you.
"but-"
"ajax." he couldn’t ignore the fact that his heart stopped for a moment when he heard you say his name. retirement was still something he was adjusting to, so hearing his real name more often was still somewhat foreign to him. he took a deep breath to steady himself, focusing on what you were saying.
“hon, they don’t need to learn how to properly use weapons yet. let them be.” the look you gave him convinced him to sit back down next to you, allowing your children to do what they pleased. he did so with a huff, yet he resisted the urge to cross his arms like, well, a child.
he immediately noticed that your hand went from holding his wrist to his own hand. despite the gloves you both had on due to the weather, he was able to feel your natural body warmth. it brought him comfort. however, that wasn't the only thing he could feel. it took a moment, but he soon identified the bump on your ring finger to be the jewel of a wedding ring. he couldn't help but grin, pride blooming in his chest.
"isn't your hand uncomfortable with that on?" he asked, beginning to play with your fingers.
you looked at your intertwined hands, shrugging. "not really," you answered. "would feel uncomfortable if i didn’t have it on if i'm being honest."
if possible, he felt his grin widen. "it's really been that long then?"
"you make it sound like we're old. we're only on our thir-"
"old," he deadpanned, earning a laugh in response.
an hour later, the four of you were inside the house. you and childe were making dinner while your two children were at the table, talking about the adventure they went on earlier.
“we sailed across the seas, side by side! there weren’t as many giant waves as we thought there would be, so we made it to land very safely.”
“after we got off the boat, we went to search for treasure! before we could, we saw a bandit on the loose! we helped the guards get the baddie, and gave back everything that meanie stole from people.”
“getting the treasure wasn’t much fun- helping people was.”
the kids telling these types of stories during dinner became a normal occurrence. they were always rather colorful, but nothing less was expected from those so young. while you and childe enjoyed these tales, it made it a bit harder to get them to eat. somehow, one of you always managed to convince them to do so.
“hey dad?” the youngest, alina, asked.
“hm?”
“when are uncle teucer, aunt tonia, grandma and grandpa coming over?”
the thought of his entire family in one room was one that made him feel alive, which was something he didn’t think he could ever feel outside the battlefield. he couldn’t help but be grateful to be there. there was a time where he thought he was meant to be alone, bloodlust his only companion for the rest of his days. yet as he thought about how to answer his child’s question, he realized that even he was capable of finding the peace he never knew he needed.
hola everyone! out of boredom and with a lot of time on my hands as my school year comes to an end, i decided to make more moodboards of genshin ships! (specifically lgbtq since it's pride month 🏳️🌈.) if i look at them standing alone, i personally (sort of) like the stuff i made. from the characters/ships i was trying to base them off of- not so much. i’ve been unintentionally making them more modernized, but let’s pretend that was my intention all along! i really don't know what i'm doing anymore okay 😭😭. anyways they're under the cut-
1. childe x zhongli
ignoring the fact that i've posted this one before
i think i had a little too much time making this one. psd used was life goes on by jessitokki.
2. amber and eula
this might be my favorite or second favorite one- right after the zhongli and childe moodboard. i used a polarr filter called crystal by wicodesx.
3. keqing and ganyu
very much like this one! again, i used a polarr filter. this one was called "sunkissed ☀️" by camicodes.
4. venti and xiao
polarr filter used was called "clementime". unfortunately, i couldn't find the creator of it.
warning(s): ooc venti(?), cursing, there's like the smallest tone of angst near the end-

author’s note: i tried posting this yesterday but my wifi decided to be a bitch </3. so happy (belated) birthday, venti! this was (to a degree) inspired by his birthday message. pls when i read it i couldn’t- anyways! this could be read from a platonic or romantic perspective.
there was a time where one of the most common languages across the continent was flower symbolism. it could be said that it was a simpler time, complexities being so few and far in between. however, the language was no longer commonly understood, as it has been needed less and less as generations come and go, verbally spoken languages further advancing with time. strangely enough, one of the few things able to survive over the years containing the language were paintings, writings, and songs. barbatos, known as the alias venti to this young generation, attempted to keep the language alive through his own songs. well, attempted was a strong word for it. though he was naturally gifted in the art of songwriting, the ability to understand the flower language was always a foreign one to him. that was why he was hesitant about composing songs on the subject: he feared misrepresenting its beauty.
though venti may have been clueless about the flower language, you were more of an expert in the area. at least, you were more of an expert in his eyes. whenever the two of you would go on walks just outside the city, you were quick to point out plants that caught your eye, either to give a small lesson on the meaning or simply stopping the both of you to admire its beauty. when the former would occur, he was always uncharacteristically silent. there was no somber reason behind it- he simply didn’t want to interrupt when you spoke so passionately. before you could worry about it, he would snap out of it and go back to his normal talkative self. no, he wasn’t getting soft or anything (he already was soft). you were just too cute and he wanted to ingrain it in his memory.
today was one of those days you two were taking a walk. there was a comfortable silence as the two of you contemplated on what to do. however, the silence didn’t last long as venti had decided to start offering suggestions, gently kicking a rock as he started talking.
“maybe we could go climb a tree and enjoy the breeze together?” he flicked his wrist, deciding to emphasize by sending some wind in your direction. out of the corner of his eye, he saw you stumble a bit from the unexpected breeze. he quickly walked over to steady you.
“seriously?” you tried to sound annoyed with his action, but the smile you couldn’t keep off your face showed otherwise. venti couldn’t help but chuckle, simply shrugging as he awaited your response. before you could, however, another idea came to mind.
“or we could go stargazing from a cliff? oh wait! wait wait wait!” he suddenly stopped walking, lightly holding your forearm to stop you as well. there was a pause as he looked at you.
“uhm... venti?” you got a bit scared as a few moments passed. “are you okay?” a few more moments passed before he suddenly put some distance between the two of you. then, he did something rather unexpected.
before you could process this rather odd turn of events, he was running away.
the little fucker poked your nose.
"boop."
“catch me if you can!”
“you little sh-” you immediately took off, wanting to retaliate in petty vengeance. either he went easy on you or you were faster, you weren’t sure, but you were able to catch up, nearly tackling him to the ground as you did so. “caught you!”
“what if we go on a day trip to an uninhabited island!” the way he said it with such vibrancy stopped you from immediately shutting the idea down. the idea seemed a bit far fetched, but maybe-
the two of you laughed, catching your breaths from the run. taking a moment, you poked his nose back before the both of you started walking again. “i think we’re close to windrise, we could go-”
“i mean unless you want to do it before your next birthday?”
“it would be better if we saved that last one for another day. maybe next year.”
“next year? why so long!” you frowned, the question confusing you a bit.
“wait what?”
“okay, okay, i forgot how impatient you are sometimes-”
“no not that.” the anemo archon interrupted, shaking his head slightly. “what do you mean ‘next birthday’?”
“venti-” you couldn’t help the chuckle you let out. “today’s the sixteenth…”
you couldn’t help but burst out laughing right then and there. “guess time finally got away from you, old man.”
“WHAT!” immediately, nearby birds took off, most likely startled by the sudden noise. he continued shouting. “i thought today was the fifteenth!”
“i’m not that old!”
“whatever you say.” you looked ahead, a smile on your face when you saw a familiar large oak tree. “race you there?”
that was how he found himself sitting on one of the branches of the giant oak tree at windwise, absentmindedly playing his lyre as he watched you make something from windwheel asters next to him. he looked at the sky for a moment, noticing that the sun was starting to set. the archon gently nudged you.
“venti, it’s a surprise, i still won’t tell you what it is-”
“the sun is setting.” as you looked up to see, the archon took the chance to try and see what it was that you were making. however, you knew him well enough to move the mysterious item from his line of view.
it didn’t take long after that before you finished what you were making. you made him close his eyes. when he did, he felt his hat being taken off of his head before being replaced with something.
“okay, now you can open them.” he did so, reaching for whatever was on his head. “a flower crown,” you explained. “god of freedom having a crown made of out flowers symbolizing it.” he couldn't help but let a grin appear on his face when he noticed that you had decided to put his hat on.
a comfortable silence fell, both of you watching the sunset as you enjoyed the other’s company. once the sun did set, you suddenly turned to him.
“oh, i almost forgot! we’re going to be late.” you stood, careful not to lose your balance.
venti stood as well, helping you get down. “late for what?”
“there’s people waiting at angel’s share for you- i sort of forced everyone to cancel their plans to come.” the way you had said it as if it were normal got venti to smile.
barbatos knew nothing truly lasts forever. he's had to experience that first hand more times than anyone should ever have to in their lifetime. though he knew all of this, he decided to throw caution to the wind and allow himself to enjoy this moment.
“do you think i can get some wine?”
“as the birthday boy? hm- i will force diluc to give you a ‘wine instead of grape juice or cider’ pass if you want.”
“yay!” the two of you got down, making your way back to the city with the guidance of the new moonlight.
the beauty of the flower language was something he thought was forever lost. however, as he walked with you, he realized that it simply showed itself in a different light. through the city of freedom, its citizens, and you.
