“ hey there. ” pumat’s face is a riddle of bruises and marks, lurid purples under the deep grey-blue of his skin and the deep brown of his beard. the coils of his hair are kept back from his face and horns with a long strip of deep green fabric, even the skin under a v of a slight widow’s peak mottled with bruises. “ how are you doin lately ? ”
i love the idea of pumat staying very down to earth, as he generally is, but also like ... having these little signs and symbols that he’s been city-bound for a long time, a soft but not negative disconnect from traditional firbolg society. i love the idea of pumat with a little bit of jewellery, somethings adorning his horns, a little bit of gold face paint - stuff like that that just sets him apart.
“i heard you, uh… helped them find me.” yasha’s not as familiar with pumat as the others are, but then again, that usually doesn’t stop her from being so awkward regardless. “thank you for helping them… back there.” when she wasn’t able to. / @enchantry liked for a short starter.
“ that was no more than they were already doin, ” he says, honestly; scrying was already something jester was more than capable of, he only gave it a little bit of a different perspective. “ you’ve got some good friends there. you’re real important to them. ” he smiles broadly, then, and doesn’t wince when it bites into a bruise on his cheek. “ - and, you’re, uh, welcome. happy to help. i don’t get out fightin much. ”

“ oh, my apologies, ” and it’s an entirely sincere, bright-eyed apology, even as he’s still wary of any of the goods being knocked over or any of the feet treading a little much mud into the shop. but he don’t gotta understand how a family works for them to be family; that’s not his business. his business is sellin and helpin prime with enchanting. he leans his elbows on the countertop, to lean over and look down at the chimera. “ and - thank you, well, i really appreciate hearin that. nice to meet ya, steve, blade, robert, jerry, and - what’s your name, miss ? ”

a ‘hm’ of consideration comes from essek, nodding lightly in something close to agreement. ❝ they have their ways about them. ❞ charming and odd and exhausting all at once were the motley crew. difficult to, truly, dislike. but he keeps his compliments sparse, even when not in their company. didn’t do well to show a hand so easily. he tilts his head a fraction. ❝ i must admit i don’t do much in the ways of enchantment myself, but i’d be glad to take a look at your projects and perhaps be of some use. ❞ an expression half way to a smile tilts at his mouth, a little strained. essek could certainly use a distraction.
fondly: “ yeah, they do. ” he straightens up to his full eight; eight foot is nothing to shake a stick at, but then, that’s why the shop has ceilings at twelve foot, so that he’s never in chances of bumpin his head. and what if he got a centaur or a goliath in here. plus, he reckons it feels nice and expansive for everyone small, too. he pulls back the jointed section of his countertop, opens it up for essek to come through: “ come on this way. do all the enchantin in my room, hafta ask ya to excuse the bed. ”
but it’s not a messy room; it’s organised chaos, probably, to anyone else lookin in, but to pumat it’s a cacophany of perfect sense.

@lunarwoven — the goggles are down over pumat’s eyes, tongue poked out the corner of his mouth, squinting down at something shiny on the countertop in front of him. footsteps have him looking up, though; the goggles bring mollymauk into sharp, violet-violent relief, and pumat is quick to push them off his eyes and let them push his hair back. “ oh, well, hey there. ” he looks behind mollymauk and blinks, eyes focusing in the dim of the shop, half expecting to see the rest of the mighty nein - or maybe that nice big girl - and he says, “ all by your onesome today, huh ? ”

“ nah. ” the tone’s not dismissive. actually kinda comes off very haha what do you mean for a single syllable that doesn’t even count as a word - he knows that, he feels that. he re-arranges homemade teacups and clay spoons on the tray behind the counter of his shop, glad he can go on and have a fiddle with them whilst he figures out what all excuse he could even come up with. “ well, maybe a lil nervous, yanno ? ”
he gestures, with one hand, to the invulnerable vagrant; draped in green and gold like the robes he’s wearin, lit softly, lit dimly, lit warmly. safe and smells kinda like a prettied-up barn. safe. “ never had anybody attack anyone in here before. not in twelve years. and my bell got rung pretty good in that cathedral, lemme tell ya. — don’t worry about it. i just gotta get back into rhythm with me and my mes. ”
so, pumat’s age is a weird one, though
he ‘feels’ kinda middle-aged — especially when we first met him. i’d say he’s felt younger since matt kinda started leaning into pumat being a little goofier lately. for a firbolg, that’d put him around 200 years old, easily - which is fine, that’s pretty cool
but the problem with this concept is the following things
firstly: firbolgs reach adulthood around 30 years old. they do not age at the same rate as humans, and it’s not really possible to equate them. you can, but the facts are that even though age-wise caduceus is equivalent to someone in his 20s, caduceus is a full grown adult from a completely separate, non-human and often heavily coded as nonwhite community. he’s not the same emotional age as beau, jester, etc.
so, with that in mind, back to pumat ...
* pumat learned under oremid hass, who is currently in his 50s. genasi have the same lifespan as humans. * pumat’s only been running the invulnerable vagrant for 12 years.
in my opinion, that means pumat has only been kicking around as an enchanter for a maximum of 20 years. he can’t have been doing it for much longer or it would have been completely unreasonable for oremid to be the one teaching him.
this doesn’t mean pumat CAN’T be around 200 years old, but it raises a lot of questions about what he was doing before learning under oremid hass and joining the assembly. time doesn’t go any faster for him - that’d be 180 years of activity unexplained and unchecked.
so i find it more likely, honestly, that pumat is probably in his early 100s. that gives him plenty of time to reach adulthood, fuck up being an adult, get kicked out of his clan and make his way to the cities before being scooped by the assembly.
but we don’t know for sure, maybe pumats got secrets 🤷♀️

FULL NAME. pumat sol NICKNAME / ALIAS. the pumats GENDER. ostensibly masculine but im honestly not really a believer in gender HEIGHT. 8ft AGE. does anybody know ZODIAC. unfortunately, no LANGUAGES. common, elvish and giant; he can also talk to plants and animals, but he doesn’t know what they say back.

HAIR COLOR. dark brown, thick and coily. think daveed diggs EYE COLOR. dark brown with flecks of gold SKIN TONE. brown-grey-blue-ish, he’s furry though BODY TYPE. chunk. like - traditional bear body; on the side of heavyset and very hairy. ACCENT. i’d love to know what region of exandria he’s from to sound like this but, his accent leans heavily on both canadian stereotypes and the minnesota nice VOICE. very deep, incredibly bassy, but soft and kind. he has a booming laugh. DOMINANT HAND. i think he’s right-handed POSTURE. a little hunched, as such really tall people tend to be. he’s very upright with strangers - best foot forward and all that - and has good battle posture, but when he’s relaxed his shoulders roll forward some. SCARS. lots and lots of clumsy scars and enchantment scars. not a lot from real, serious battle - well, not until the latest ep ... TATTOOS. none ... that we know of ... booty tattoo. im calling it BIRTHMARKS. MOST NOTICEABLE FEATURE(S).

PLACE OF BIRTH. a pretty typical firbolg clan in a forest. HOMETOWN. like many firbolgs, home doesn’t have a name, for him - it’s simply ‘home’. BIRTH WEIGHT. oh, uh, big baby. BIRTH HEIGHT. long baby. MANNER OF BIRTH. given firbolg culture, i’d say a natural birth. FIRST WORDS. maw or paw, i suspect. alternatively, SIBLINGS. i do think he’s a middle-ish child; at least one older and one younger sibling. he doesn’t see them much or talk to them much, since he’s a tiny bit of a firbolg social pariah. PARENTS. see above. PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT. firbolgs are very involved and sweet community families; i suspect pumat was raised by the whole village as much as he was raised by his parents.

CHARACTER’S THEME SONG. pumat is the lemonade stand man, the duck is nott HOBBIES TO PASS TIME. cooking, crochet & knitting, painting, sculpting, pottery - he’s not good at all of it, but pumat is extremely tactile and loves tactile hobbies as a result. he makes his own teacups. MENTAL ILLNESSES. autism is not a mental illness but he’s autistic and a little anxious PHYSICAL ILLNESSES. he’s not particularly tall for a firbolg, although he is up there; some minor back and shoulder aches get to him on the regular.
