[Indigo straightens his back, flicking his wings and blinking, as if startled by the contrast of the now-clean Champion in dirty, bloody robes.]

Of course. I said I would wait for you, didn't I?

[He holds out robes of dark purple and green silks, embroidered with golden trims and flecks.]

Please change into these. Discard your robes in your room. They will be cleaned, mended, and returned to you by tomorrow. For now, will these do?

[He takes the robes, looking over them with a squint in his eye. The fabric was softer than anything he had ever worn in his life. It was almost uncomfortable.]

What's wrong with my clothes?

They're unpresentable. It's covered in dragon blood and viscera, torn in so many places, it's a miracle it hasn't fallen apart. Like you.

Is the fabric comfortable? If it might cause any sensory issues, we have other materials available to you. We are on the way to the tailor now.

[Without much care, he shucks off the outer robe he has on and slips on the replacement green garment over his sleeveless compression top. He ties it loosely, keeping his chest window exposed.]

[Indigo curiously raises an eyebrow, noticing his fashion statement.]

It's much better. Follow me.

[He leads Philza through the hallways and down several flights of stairs. The End Palace is beautiful, with chiseled walls and vaulted ceilings, open windows to the Void. They're only going to the tailor's office, in the north wing, but the journey seems to be interesting. Indigo has seen it all, so she walks ahead with purpose; Philza is walking in jagged loops, craning his neck to take in the architecture as they travel.]

I think the champion is a lost cause

I disagree. He has slain the dragon; that is an impressive feat, and the tremendous reward is such for a reason.

He is strange, unconventional, informal, and rude, especially to our King. He is reckless and severely lacks self-preservation. Yet he is passionate, confident, and skilled, which are critical roles of a warrior. Do not underestimate him.

As for his role on the court, we will see how that plays out. His desperately lonely situation has led him to be far from fit for diplomacy, but I have faith that he can learn quickly.

I trust that Philza has potential. We can agree to disagree.

[The King merely nods, setting into his throne. Phil is none-the-wiser over his situation and looks over at Indigo, still bright eyed even despite the amount of blood caked on his body. It is then that he registers that the sound he heard was a different language entirely, and not just a trick of the ear. He barely even realizes that Indigo is grabbing his shoulder at first.]

O-oh. Right, sure. Uh. Lead the way, mate.

[Indigo lifts off the ground and drags Philza out into the hallway. She leads him up a sweeping spiral staircase, through several doorways, and eventually they reach a wide hall lined with doors. On the door furthest down the hall is a scrap of paper, a name 'PHILZA' haphazardly scribbled onto it.]

This is your room. There are amenities you can use to bathe and clean yourself. I'll wait out here. Once you're presentable, I will escort you to the tailors, who will measure you for new clothes fit for the King's court. You may return to your chambers afterward.

[She realizes that the Ender King never instructed her to free Philza. In theory, he would be fine if she left them on, but the thought of him cleaning his feathers while chained...]

[The angel makes quick work of his key and unlocks Philza's chains, which drop to the floor with a resounding clank. He scans the avian's grimy appearance, before hesitantly adding on.]

Will you be alright, Philza?

[Once the chains are released, Phil moves his hands to rub at his wrists. It was a bit relieving to have the mobility again, even if he didn’t think it was too much of an issue in the first place.]

Me? I mean, yeah. I think I can wash myself, mate. :) It’s no skin off my back.

[He nods.] Good. Your stench has a ten-block radius. Go, be clean. I'll be waiting out here.

[The King's eyes bore into him, staring into the puny soul. To His eyes, he sees a green like a strawberry. A green like the greenest grasses, a red like the most brilliant of rubies and a tiny speckle of pink within the red. It was hard not to hide His smile.]

...You're a player, aren't you? You seem rather... immature for a player of your age. Especially considering your... condition. :}

[The King leans forward in his throne, his intertwining fingers making the rings and jewelry click with every movement.] Tell me. What are you really doing here? Are you even aware of what the rewards would be? Surely you wouldn't think that I would turn around your immortality into a mere three live lifespan. That would be a death wish, would it not? :}

[The King leans back in His chair. Stars, what has He gotten Himself into. This scrap of meat would likely be much better suited for the Overlord.]

The full three lives. The ability to travel to other worlds beyond this one. [His eye catches how the commoner’s expression shifts at that.]

But. It would seem you already have playerhood, so this would not be of interest to you. Otherwise, you will be granted the finest tailor made clothes and jewelry, and will be granted automatic admission to My court, as an advisor.

You will only be required to serve for a short time before you may be freed to travel as you wish. Is that understood?

[Phil considers it for a moment. He feels sick that he actually considers the idea of abandoning what he knows for the chance at two extra lives..]

[The throne room is more massive than the night sky, yet cramped in its possession of multiple trophies. The most beautiful tapestries were strewn across the walls. The carpet was freshly made of the finest silks any Enderian could find. The weapons on display were created by the most talented blacksmiths across all dimensions, and some pride could be given that most were from the End.]

[But it was so… vacant. In the eyes of the King.]

[The King turned over one of His eyes idly as he waited for the return of His angel. Interrogation of a champion… Now that was certainly not something that would have been expected. Certainly not an every day piece of news, the media would fight over it like a bunch of rats. It would be best to keep this… possible misstep on the down-low. Or so He thought.]

[The doors open as His angel approaches with their prisoner, and He sits tall in His massive throne. Guards stand to attention as the King straightens His posture to the truest extent of His height. The eyes in the room shift and focus on the new arrivals, offering nothing more than their watchful gaze.]

I welcome your return, Angel. Do explain to me your purpose.

[Indigo's wings hum quietly as she flies into the room, dragging the prisoner- Champion- Philza- by the collar. She shoves him roughly away from her; his wings strain, flaring outwards, and he lets out an indignant squawk as he nearly trips. She ignores him and bows to her King, her cloak sweeping the floor as she lands carefully. He meets the Ender King's eye confidently.]

I have interrogated with our prisoner. He hails from the Overworld with the sole intent of killing the dragon in the center island.

[Faint chirrups and murmurs drift between the guards. Indigo glares at them out of the corner of his eye, continuing once they fall silent.]

His name is Philza, and he has succeeded in his quest. He insists he has done nothing but that, and thus has no reason to be imprisoned or labeled an intruder. He willingly and freely volunteered this information and was extremely excitable and chatty for a prisoner. I believe he is telling the truth.

Hmmmm...hmhmhm..

[The King raises an eyebrow, and all eyes are on the... so called champion in the room. Yes, this is certainly not the image of a proper champion, no not at all. In fact the mess he is making on the floor is nearly enough to warrant punishment.]

This is our champion? In the chains?

[He smiles.] I must say, Phiiillza is hardly the name of any proper champion.

pfft. I mean, you hardly seem like a King yourself mate :)

[Indigo's eyes go wide. Her grip on her sword tightens, and she punches Philza's shoulder roughly.]

Do you have a fucking death wish? You're making things more difficult for yourself, prisoner.

[The King's smile falls at the comment.]

[This insolent little brat. Now just who does he think he is, waltzing in here and ruining the pristine floors with his blood and now quite frankly a lack of respect. Despicable, really. But no matter. The King decides to be merciful, just this one time.]

[Any attempt to move for the stranger is suddenly inhibited by just a gaze alone. The King lets himself relish in this feeling, and He smiles when He can feel the commoner attempt to struggle. This only makes things more fun, doesn't it? He blinks only to let the prisoner fall back to his knees and hold him once again into a kneel.]

That's a bit more like it. I suppose that Overworld commoners must lack the proper manners to know remember themselves in the face of royalty, hm? I will choose to interpret your blatant disrespect as ignorance. If I get the impression it may be anything more, I shall have My angel execute you where you kneel, is that understood?

[He only gets a glare in return, but The King simply decides to look past it for now.] State your purpose, commoner. :}

[He actually can’t move. He struggles. Nothing budges. He wonders if it’s actually a dream, but…]

[His jaw unlocks and he can breathe normally again.]

I just heard about a dragon fight. Like some shit about a tournament and a champion? And apparently the rewards are pretty good? [he lets out a huff] I dunno! I didn’t think getting arrested was part of the rewards! It’s literally just a dragon! I don’t know what the big fuss is about.

I see. So the dragon wasn’t even a challenge for you? Even as your blood soaks your clothes you feel so bold as to make such a statement.

[The King doesn’t wait for a response.]

Yes, you would be correct in saying that slaying the dragon does lead to some… benefits. If you are able to prove that it was indeed you who has slain the dragon, then…

[He stops. And the King stares for a long moment. A bit too long.]

[This is going horribly. Dread pools in his gut, and Indigo speaks up, giving Philza a very direct, irritated expression.]

His crude manners are undoubtedly inherited from his Overworld residency. He's certainly unfit for a Champion.
