A wild Lugia appeared
When I was a teenager and still on Neopets I was part of a pretty big Star Trek guild and eventually became part of its council, with the solemn duty of creating weekly polls. Well one day I created the poll "Which would win in a fight? Borg Cube or Death Star?". Naturally, since this was a Star Trek guild, the answer was overwhelmingly "Borg Cube", but someone did have the rationality to point out we were biased.
So I look up a pretty prominent Star Wars guild and message one of their council and ask them to poll the same question and get back to me in a week. They do, and naturally the fuckin geeks said "Death Star".
So then I look up a Stargate guild and messaged the lead council member, saying the same thing, and they get back to me almost immediately saying that the Death Star would immediately one-shot a Borg Cube but they would never be able to do it again to another Cube. And I took that wisdom back to my guild and we were mollified, and for one moment the Nerd World was peaceful.
Truly thrilled to finally find this post on my dash.
I was out working in the garden today and I realized while I was out there just how far my work in promoting biodiversity in the yard and creating a pollinator lawn has come along. When I first started being the caretaker of this patch of land some years back, it was an unfortunate "manicured monoculture" (basically just a green sea of one kind of turfgrass). Not anymore. 🍀🌿🌾🌼
Throughout the year now, you'll find a vast array of plants. There is a mix of 🌾 native grasses 🌾, along with so many flowering natives, brushes, shrubs. The Shrubby St. John's Wort popped last year, and hopefully there should be more blooming this summer. Last year, there was also what I think is Wild Bergamot/Bee-Balm growing along one of the property boundaries; so, I'm looking forward to seeing if that comes back this year. There's Wild Ginger I never planted, along with other surprises that have come up in the forms of Strawberries, Dew Berries, Wild Garlic, and Wild Spinach. You'll find Virgin's Bower vines, Thistles, Toothworts, Asters, Fleabane, cute little Seedbox flowers, Wild Violets, Dandelions, Flags, and Goldenrods. There's even been a Mustard patch this year, though I didn't plant it (it must have been a gift from the birds). There are wildflowers growing alongside my ornamental flower gardens, swaths of sweet-smelling Clover peppered here and there (and there and here), Bluebells and Morning Glories basking in the sunshine.
And, most importantly, there are birds, frogs, bees, butterflies, dragonflies, lizards, squirrels, spiders — wildlife everywhere, everyday. We even have a resident groundhog duo. 🦋🐸🐞🐦🐌🦆🐛🦉🐝🦗
There are still a lot of things I want to do with this space to improve it (a micro farming project I'm working on starting in one section of the property next year, introducing more wildflowers and herbs to the space, introducing some flowering native trees, and bringing in Milkweeds and Coneflowers again, because those have done well here in previous years and the butterflies loved them), but I'm really proud of getting things to the point that they're at now! And seeing all of the local wildlife enjoy it so much (as well as having plants that can provide them with food and shelter) is the greatest reward for the love and hard work put into this.
There also needs to be a button for “this is the 5000th time I’ve read your fic because I’m having a horrible day and this is the only thing in the world that always brings me happiness.”
good news: there is!
Support the folks posting work on comment-ebabled sites!
I love when people leave comments on my old stuff.
Its like passive income but it actually works to make me happy.
Honestly though, comments like that are gold to me. I love to write and a comment telling me that something I’ve done has improved someone’s life even in a small way? That’s impact. We live in societies that tell us over and over we have no value and nothing we do is ever good enough. So for someone to post a comment telling us that we improved their lives with our stories? That tells us our effort had value. We writers set out to improve the world in tiny ways, offering random acts of kindness in the form of a few minutes’ entertainment, and comments tell us we’ve achieved that little goal.
You can totally come back and leave a comment under that comment a year later! I’m glad to know you are still enjoying it and want to know if you’re doing okay.
There is no higher compliment than a re-read. The longer the time that has passed, the higher it is. It means a story resonated and stayed with someone.
so... even tho i've hardly drawn anything in between these.... somehow the growth happens?? maybe. I could be wrong I am very tired.
certainly motivates me to keep doing these doodles every 2-5 years anyways, just to see ^^
Hey I am really enjoying you comic, and I just wanted to send you this since I used you panel as a coloring book XD
I hope the art keeps art-ing the monkey boys keep inspiring you! Because you definitely inspire me!
BEAUTIFUL!! LOOK AT THE AMOUNT OF DETAILS!!
Artists are coming back to tumblr. Nature is healing.
You can do your part and plant trees (reblog art) to help nature heal.
Don’t support invasive species (art thieves/reposters) though. Only native plants (the original creators).
Lots of artists are reblogging this with their art blog! Go check them out!
So I decided that the most way to reread homestuck was to do it update by update in real time, and I joined a group doing just that. But.... it means I'm stuck drawing pre-everything john a LOT.
3am doodles are the most beautiful art I create.
Happy 4/13 Nerds. And gods help me… I am rereading homestuck.
When you convince your, also 30yo, friends to make Naruto OCs but you all have questionable taste.
It really is just fun fine-tuning the design... also in trying to draw in the naruto style XD
Once upon a time, in 2004, I was a suuuuper depressed middle-schooler and made a 200 page comic series about what happens after you end yourself (heavily influence by Bleach and being an egg 🏳️⚧️).
Today I hold tight reigns on such spirals of pain, but I am also sleeping 30 hours at a time due to chronic fatigue and that frustration made me remember that middle school existed. Ew. Welp at least my drawing skills are head and shoulders above child me, so take that depression.
