how are we supposed to know if we love each other because we want to and not because we were told to. like literally how do we ever know. how do we know what's love and what's grief and what's societal expectation and what's our own desire. how do we reclaim desire. how do we reclaim ourselves. what if you only love me because that's what your mom wanted and then your mom died. how the fuck are we supposed to escape the ghosts of our parents. of their failures. how do we get free from their projections of us. that is not why i love you. i have tried everything not to love you....for the sake of not dragging you down with me in my grief. what happens when we try to unlearn the things that everyone we love has always hated about us. what happens when we fail. if i met you for the first time tonight i would love you. i've changed everything about myself and the one thing that never changes is that i love you. what sort of love can't be repressed. what sort of feelings can't be killed. all this time i wanted to believe i'd changed. that i'm not the same girl i was. why is it so painful to love our child selves. why do we punish them over and over again for things that were never their fault. but i am still her, and was that girl so bad? i have to believe she's still worthy of love. i still love her. and i still love him. and what if we all threw ourselves into the sea. what then.

Going a little insane because what do you meeeean Belly told Conrad about her perfect prom in that scene and how she imagined that “we danced and then went back to the hotel to have sex” only to then do that exact same thing in Paris (dance with him and then take him back to her place). This is the prom we should have had and the one we deserved and the one we would have gotten if Susannah had never gotten sick and it was soooo satisfying to watch
