Work hard. But not too late.
The situation is always right. If something bothers, find the source, act on it. Try something. Know your priorities. Listen. Observe. Be attentive. The situation provides for its own potential. Know your priorities. In case of emergency, shut up and observe. Rest also. Review your ambitions. Use what is at hand. Try something. Redefine your priorities.
We believe in everyone who is here, we believe in everyone who participates, we believe in not doing it all on our own, we believe in feedback loops, we believe in interferences, we believe in a back & forth movement between rational thinking and non-rational thinking, we believe in the efficacy of scattered thoughts as much as that of rigorous thoughts, we believe in skillful thinking, our ability to train and create our own logics, therefore creating our own ways of understanding the real, therefore creating the real for ourselves, therefore influencing other peopleâ stories of the real with our stories of the real, we believe in mirror neurones and their inability to make the difference between themselves and the other, we believe in skillful perception, our ability to train and create our own perceptions, therefore creating our own way of encountering the real, therefore creating the real for ourselves, therefore influencing other peopleâ stories of the real with our stories of the real, we believe that there exists no common sense which is really common, we believe in short-circuit, we believe in fiction, we believe in storytelling as a strategy through which our Reality emerges, we believe in performativity, we believe in placebo effect, we believe in artefacts and their power of federation, we believe that every detail is equally important and that every thing influences the whole, we believe in attention and observation, we believe in what doesnât exist yet, we believe in what is slightly beyond our understanding, we believe in Unreality, we believe in the agency of ghosts, we believe in the virtual side of the coin, we believe in Schrödinger's cat, we believe in Quantum physics, we believe in infinite amounts of Dimensions, we believe in fractal geometry, we believe in organizational principles, we believe in ecosystems, we believe in Gregory Bateson, we believe in metalogues, we believe in Socratesâ maĂŻeutics, we believe in the ingenue approach, we believe in asking questions, we believe in thinking outside the box while sitting in a box, we believe in a map with no edge, we believe in no ends, only means, we believe in a navigation from within, we believe in a choreography written from the inside, for the inside, we believe in a skillful curiosity, our ability to train and create our own ways to link what we know with what we don't, therefore creating our own way of encountering the real, therefore creating the real for ourselves, therefore influencing other peopleâ stories of the real with our stories of the real, we believe in paying attention, we believe in walking and talking slower, we believe in the sense of calm, we believe in details and their powerful agency, we believe in listening, and suspending our reactions for slightly longer than usual, we believe in incorporating, we believe in improvisation and in choreography as two points on the scale of having-a-plan, two shades of the activity of writing, we believe objectivity is a composition, we believe in ambiguity and its capacity to trigger, we believe in the regeneration of thoughts, we believe in modulable fragments, we believe in endless rearrangements, we believe in processes that produce eventhough they have no end.
Ordering is contingent. As such, we have to admit that it remains partly aleatory.
Work hard. But not too long.
Remember that you misunderstand understanding.
I am we.
I decided to not write in the first person anymore, it sounds too introspective and personal, I decided to write âweâ instead, so to sound like already a big group of people are thinking along those lines. Boosting the credit a bit, as an experiment. To hear our own words as if they were the thoughts of others. We think that the ambiguĂŻty over how many people speak gives a certain weight to whatever is proposed in the sentence. It will simply catch more attention to read a discourse that is already shared by many than the isolated voice of a single mind. We believe this ambiguous âweâ is a powerfull placebo and we will test its force. In this way, the stories we tell also detach themselves from us and become slightly more available for the projections of the reader, more appropriable. We like that.
The functions are temporary. Full stop.
Letter to my future colleagues: Can i scream and exhibit some leftovers of ideologies without falling in a typically bodyless speech act and become a ghost that cannot touch anyone? The need to act calls for articulating positions and wondering how to utter them otherly than in pure words. I hope our attempts, no matter how artistic, can stay closely connected to the socio-political context we inhabit. That we will try to keep the relevence rate of our questions very high, relevence in relation to many things and not only comply too quickly to a limited area of specialized interests, as if disconnected from the bigger picture. I wish that we always consider the studio or whatever material space we will work in as a part of the Bigger Space that we share with other people and that we fill with other activities. I hope we will not only promote change but already try it on ourselves. I hope we will have the patience to slow ourselves down and take the time to actually go through good ideas in practice, humble enough to accept to be the players of the game and not only the announcers. It is not a time for speech anymore, it is time to motivate action and the best way is to start it yourself. Donât ask from someone else what you wonât do yourself. Spreading ideas is great; by talking AND doing. Our project is about shuffling the hierarchies of intelligences. Browsing through different fields of intelligence with less discrimination. It will demand patience, as I mentionned it above. Our project is about taking positions, even if those positions change and dissolve into new ones. The attempt of localizing yourself on the map is crucial. Unlocalizability is only cowardice disguised as Utopia. We need concret utopia, some attempts at specific hypothesis, detailed speculations. We need tatoos all over our bodies to affirm our mottos. We need to see with our own eyes what a new icon looks like. We canât say more ânoâs. Now we need âyesâes. Saying No isn't enough, so we must seek what we could say yes to. Enough dismantling, now we need federation, however temporary and local. New habits. Suitable obligations. We shall come up ourselves with the agreable ways to limit our freedom, enounce some rules we agree to obey to. We can change the rules when we need. We can disobey the rules that we cannot change. We need to write lots of texts, new wordily assemblages carrying ideas we care for, and then, wonder how we can turn those texts into enactments that will be encountered and tried by people who donât read. There are too many good ideas on the pile of unread informations. Words must act. I hope we will remember to use all the resources we have individually. That we will start calling resources things that we didnât before. Actually that we will keep on designing our specific dancerly activities while forgetting all Dance terminology and start importing and exporting words from their contexts. I hope we can federate other audiences by changing the name of what we do. I hope we can inspire butchers, knitters, chiefs of corporates, designers, politicians, clowns, mothers, dads, students, free-lancers, secretaries,⊠I hope we will collaborate with them, because in fact we already do. We need consequences. We shall try to generate them. Calmly hunt them.
About authorship. The only authorship which to us requires to be stressed today is the authorship over participation. I am the author of the way i engage with things. The acknowlegment of participation as a form of authorship is of prime importance in the debate about ethics in learning and creative processes. Participation, in any possible form, enhances the solidity of an initiative and therefore cannot be denied the status of constitutive element. There exist a large range of quality of participation nevertheless. How much does that matter in the global equasion remains questionable indeed.
All order is a form of fiction and derives from the exercise of some sort of pragmatic arbitrarity. order is a social construct aimed at enabling socialhood. In a very expended understanding of it, Order is the science of continuity: it is the art of connecting and gathering into a whole. Even when they manifest themselves by means of division, ordering systems still aim at providing a structure for gathering the parts. Typically, Order divides in order to reign.
