This happened. I don’t know what’s scarier: that this is the world we live in now, or that this is the world we have always lived in.
I thought it was really important to share what happened to me tonight.

Hamilton X’ion Line
Today, June 1st, was the day that @endotique and I were going to brave the cancellation line at Hamilton. She saw it in December and offered me one of her tickets, if she got in, but I felt bad because she had gotten there at 6am and I had been lazy, so I declined out of principal. Now I sure as fuck wish I’d said yes, but that is neither here nor there. Both of our significant others wanted to see it now, as well as myself, so we planned to grit our teeth and do the line.
These plans were obviously canceled as we are both showered and at our jobs today and not dirty from having slept on the sidewalk last night. (Take my word for it.)
We kept track of the cancellation line thread on BroadwayWorld over time and as the date approached, we grew more apprehensive of attempting this. Was it really worth it? She’d said it was a really, really solid show. Like more solid than anything she’d seen in years. I’ve only heard the score and I thought it was super catchy. But was it worth a 24+ hour wait on the sidewalk? We questioned that. Hard.

Epic MDW
Friday: Worked from home and became a strawberry blonde. Saturday: Went with dad, my uncle and K to a pork roll festival in Trenton. Delighted in a pork roll, egg, and cheese crêpe and pork roll kimchi fries, and some Newcastle. Was good to hang with family, but MAN was it hot out. After, K and I saw the new X-Men movie at a brand new theatre complex two minutes from our house, and then went to a fire at our friends' house. Sunday: One of my friends (formerly my boss, but now one of the people to whom I am closest in this world) ended up showing up crying on my front porch as I was frantically scrambling to get ready for @thatgirlallison and her beau's arrival. Friendship trumped house cleaning (sorry, A&J) so I scooped her up and we had a heartfelt convo over some coffee. Then I had to mad dash to the market, back to the house to quickly vacuum, and to the bus stop to pick up A&J. We ended up buying out the beer in the liquor store and then came back and had a BBQ with decent grilled veggies and pesto pasta salad and corn. After a bonfire and way too many beers on my part, we watched The Conjuring on my couch and crashed, with lots of laughter in between. I'm grateful for friendships that continue to grow. Monday: Super lazy day after cooking a kale/sweet potato/goat cheese frittata and s'mores cinnamon buns, dropping A&J off at the bus stop, and nursing a bit of a hangover on three hours of sleep. Lazed around and enjoyed it. I took a comp day I had to burn today and so am kind of half doing work and half vegging. Back to the grind tomorrow for two days, and then off again Friday :)
Here's a tip:
Don’t weigh yourself when you’re bloated after a long holiday weekend.
Instead I’ll focus on the positive: my tan lines are great today.
Words to live by
The untranslatable thought must be the most precise. Yet words are not the end of thought, they are where it begins.
Jane Hirshfield, from After: Poems; “After Long Silence” (via violentwavesofemotion)
Marguerite Duras // pros: slow, idyllic, tenderly descriptive writing that draws one in but at the same time the gates are left exceptionally open, insight in dialogue, good mix of playful surrealism and reality, filmic narratives that yet feel light enough and innocent enough, clear vision of what she wanted to achieve in her writing, great use of syntax & correct use of pauses, creative flow; slightly experimental but tremendously evocative of her own voice, her stuff is never refined – I feel like she never overworked her novels & honestly trusted her impulses as an author cons: she can exhaust her own vocabulary very easily; she does own her repetitions but only to the extent that they don’t interfere w her material aka sometimes she lacks the material, philosophical concerns of her feel very extra, she gains a momentum (in her writing) through her own emotional awareness but something about her inclination to opt for stereotypical, french-oriented minimalism does not compliment that particular awareness aka it gets overshadowed
I am nobody’s mother, but I am somebody.
On Tuesday night, @endotique met me (at the last possible minute, goddamn you, traffic; she literally got to the seat as the lights were going down!) to see new revival of The Color Purple. I saw the original production some years ago and I literally remembered nothing about it. LaChanze was in it, sure, but I don’t even remember her performance. I remember that Oprah was a producer and it didn’t do well - that’s about it.
I think it’s safe to say that I will definitely remember this production.

Reposting -- what an incredible production, and so lucky to have arrived on time after being stuck in crazy traffic and getting out of work late. I think my favourite thing I’ve seen yet this year, to be honest.
