a hurt not fully healed. skin that's sore, but not bruised. i know what to do because it is who i am. when the wind is right and the sun is high is when i get lost. the sailing's never been smooth. i only know the dark. i never learned to see without stars.

HEAD CANNONS
Wednesday's Wind Down is the name of the show Benny hosts at the local radio station. It's a three-hour show from 9pm-12am where he plays soothing, eclectic music (typically instrumental). To supplement
Indie sleeze kind of guy (sorry). Y'know.. he has a record collection, rarely appreciates anything pop culture, leaning heavily into the "analogue revival," smells like cigarettes, somehow always needs a haircut. That kind of guy
5 years sober, baby!!! If you knew Benny before the age of 27, then you probably have a story about him that he isn't very proud of. He started recovery 7 years ago and had a few lapses since then, but he found his stride and has been able to build a support-system around him that helps keep him out of trouble when times get tough (see wcs)
Has some random black and gray tattoos on his arms and legs and a very ~~ugly~~ unpromising start to a large back piece… who knows when that one will ever be done
Loves having a beverage with him all at times. A water bottle for when he’s on the go, a cup of coffee while he works, some herbal tea to unwind, bubble tea while he listens to music. Whatever he’s doing, Benny needs a drinky drink
Hates driving, loves his bike
Yes, he's the type to bring a small set up to the park or beach for the ambiance. Everyone rolls their eyes and tease until they catch a vibe
WHO: Sydney @ink-and-ephemera
WHERE: Craft station @ the Sunset Villa Beach Party
Benny molded the air-drying clay into a small cube only to smush it between his fingers. He was having trouble thinking of what time make with the colors available to him. He wasn't expecting his creation to be of the same quality of the stuff he made in class or at the studio, but he still wanted it to be good or cute or whatever. He was pinching the same piece into the same shape as before when he noticed Sydney approaching the station. "Oh good, I could use your expertise," he greeted her with a smile.
evelyn had debated on coming to the beach party. the flyer for it had been circling around and plenty of people had asked if she was going. after about the fifth time someone she knew had asked her ? she had figured she would come along. just to check it out, if nothing else. apart of her had felt like there could've potentially been another reason making her want to come out here. a small smile appeared on her features when she had looked up to hear the very familiar voice echo in her ears. well.. i guess now maybe she was even more glad she had came out to the party. it was someone she knew and didn't mind being around. her divorce had finally been finalized and she was moving on with her life. still hesitant, still just trying to pick up the pieces and move on with her life the way that she had been trying to do. taking her time and letting it pass was usual. she was the same as she was.. only just slightly different. and more cautious. " well, look who it is. " she responded with a raise of her eyebrow, yet still happy to see the familiar face standing before her. " you would be correct in that thought. i'm happy to see you here. you having fun ? haven't gotten into any trouble or found yourself into much chaos yet, have you ? " the party may not have been the best setting for the two to catch up with the loud music blasting through speakers and the distant sound of everybody chatting. " i originally wasn't planning to stay long, but look at me now. " she'd playfully joke, wrapping her sweatshirt closer around her due to the sudden breeze.
Benny puffed up his chest in confidence at Eve's immediate recognition of him. Of course she wouldn't have had trouble remembering him, he felt quite assured of that despite having changed some since when they'd seen each other last— like, really seen each other. Not the distant glances they caught of each other at Sunny Shores. "Happy to see you, too," he said freely. "No, I got here not too long ago. Though I did have an encounter with a very dirty s'more," Benny recalled, still tasting the sweetness of the treat on his tongue. He nodded along as she spoke, chuckling softly before replying, "I think I've heard you say that before." Benny couldn't seem to keep from referencing the past. He wagged a knowing finger at her. "You always were reluctant to come to parties and stayed longer than you said you would. Seems like much hasn't changed in the world of Eve." He stretched his arms over his head and turned his gaze towards the waves before peering back at her. "What have you been up to, though? Did I hear that you're teaching now? Is that right?"
“ do you mind? ” she pushes her sunglasses down the bridge of her nose, staring down the other with a withering gaze. christine did not come to the beach party to mingle. no, she was here to relax on her own, and that was that. “ you're blocking my sun. ”
Stupidly, Benny turned to gaze up at the sun. Of course, being the sun, he could only steal a speedy glance at it before his hand instinctively went up to shield his eyes. It was too late. The brightness had blinded him, so when he turned around to smartly say, “I don’t think that’s your sun,” he wasn’t looking directly at the stranger like he’d hoped, but just a few too many inches to the left of her. Still, he did take a small side-step as he spoke.

WHERE: The beach right by Sunset Villa Beach Party
Since arriving to the beach party some time after the event started, Benny found himself staying on the periphery. He thought maybe he’d walk the perimeter and eventually spiral his way in to the center of the crowd jamming to the live music. It all seemed so… stimulating, though. Typically, such fun would draw him in, but he’d had a long week and work to get back to that he had to have done by Monday. He doubted the project would leave his mind until it was submitted. He mused about shapes and complimentary colors as he picked at the food. As his mind wandered, Benny’s body drifted even further away from the noise, eventually ending up by the shore just some yards away from everything. From this distance, everything seemed muted despite being so animated, like he’d lowered the volume on the TV. The soft sound of waves invited him closer, so Benny plomped down to take off his shoes. As he pulled them off he looked around and caught sight of her.
Despite the years between their last real talk, Eve appeared to Benny as she always had. Her fresh face and bright eyes brought back a familiarity so comforting, he couldn’t help but be struck by its long absence. Any regret attempting to take over was pushed down by the rumors of divorce he’d heard about. Awful that they gave him the courage and hope to wave to Evelyn. “I thought I’d find you here,” his grinned. Though it wasn’t exactly true, the line brought back all the times from their adolescence Benny would seek her out at house parties.

she's somehow found a spot that isn't surrounded by couples or screaming children; hidden in a small little cover, but the perfect spot to people-watch. a little warm due to all of the bodies around but enough so she isn't having to move out of the way every single minute. except — “oh,” is what she says, seeing someone looking for a seat. “this isn't taken. it's just me.” she tries her best to give a genuine, shy smile - shuffling her back into her lap instead of beside her. “are you going to try? the s'mores thing, i mean.”
After thanking the young woman for the seat, Benny smiled and answered, “I s’pose so." His eyes darted around at the options. Did he see Reese’s Cups? “To be real, I think my bug brain brought me here. I saw fire and had to come close. What about you? I think that person has Biscoff cookies instead of graham crackers!” Benny shook his head in amazement. “This almost feels sacrilegious.”
"I don't know what they do to these raspberry cream cheese Danishes to make them so delicious, but I am addicted!" Laken exclaimed before taking a bite of her second danish. "The bakers at Sunshine Bakery are wizards or something."
Due to his wandering ear, the word addicted disrupted the beat in Benny's head. It always did. These days the word's proximity to his identity was almost amusing, so he scoffed, trusting her bright attitude would pick it up as them having a shared sense of humor (which wouldn't have been totally wrong either). "Yeah, I heard it's a whole gaggle of wizards back there. It's too bad though, they're putting the gnomes out of business," he grinned knowingly at her, reaching for a danish for himself.
