[My Muse is Sick but refuses to stay in Bed, Send “Shut Up! I’m taking care of you!” for Their Reaction to Your Muse forcing Mine into Bed..]"What!?" Sure, maybe sleeping by the river late the night before after practicing his bending in excess was a bad idea. But he was well enough to go out and do it again. He couldn’t slack off just because he felt a bit groggy. Well, maybe groggy wasn’t quite the way to put it, seeing as he couldn’t even force his way through Varrick as he was forced to sit on the bed. The obvious sore throat that Tarou was choosing to ignore wasn’t much of a good sign either as he tried to protest to Varrick. "This isn’t fair! I’m fine I tell yah’ so move your bigness aside so I can go train."
"But—" A stubborn grunt eminating from his scratchy throat as he tried with all his might to resist against the force that Varrick was pushing against him to try and put him down on the bed. Hard like earth, immovable, and right about now incredibly fragile. The teenager couldn’t keep up his resistance for long before he flung backwards, his body bouncing against the mattress and amber eyes glaring at the man. "But you don’t understand! I can’t just do nothing today.” Health be damned, he could tough it out and push through this. He would’t be an earth bender if he couldn’t endure just a little sickness. Who was Dr. Varrick trying to be telling him what to do!?
The older man was satisfied when Tarou laid down, although Varrick could tell it wasn't without frustration. He could somewhat understand -he hated being confined to bed himself. It was boring and not at all fit for a man of his creativity and stature. But Tarou was a boy, just a boy. Varrick would fight him tooth and nail to get him to stay in bed and get better.
" Who says you're doing nothing?" Varrick questioned boisterously, moving to the foot of the bed. He tugged out a thick quilt from the chest there and carefully spread it over Tarou. " You can rest! I can find some books for you! You won't be doing nothing. You just won't be moving around."

Varrick had been uncharacteristically distressed that morning. He was on an early morning stroll when he'd seen what he thought was a familiar head of hair next to the river. Upon approaching the prone figure, he'd found it to be Tarou. That set him in a frenzy. He couldn't remember how he'd lugged the boy home -although it was probably the adrenaline- but now Tarou was against staying in bed and feeling better. Varrick was completely distressed by the situation.
" You're not going anywhere, Mister!" the inventor snipped, attempting to push Tarou into a laying position on the bed. " You will stay in this bed until Dr. Varrick deems you fit to leave!"

“ Why thank you, stranger!” Varrick stroked his mustache. “ But it is not for sale, I’m sad to say!”
Shen is surprised by the offer and the sudden lean in, resulting in a slight chin rub of contemplation.
"Well… I never turn down opportunities like this. So the answer is yes." He says with a nod and a smile before pointing at Varrick with his finger. "But on one condition! If this stuff sells big and actually works, I want to try it on Tenzin.”
Varrick blinked, temporarily surprised when the man in front of him agreed to his ridiculous offer. His shock was quickly erased, though, and a grin spread across his face.
" Tenzin, huh!" he exclaimed before nodding thoughtfully. " He would be an excellent test subject as well! For a project this size you need multiple test subjects. You'll have to sign a waiver, of course. I don't want to be blamed when you're upset with your lack of hair later!"

As much as Varrick enjoyed being cooped up in his warehouse building things, he also knew he needed to get out and breathe. He didn’t want his angry fiancee breathing down his neck. She was scary when she was mad at him. So, with some reluctance, he pulled himself away from his work station and let himself out to walk around Republic City and clear his mind. The walk was completely uneventful. Just a bunch of strangers on the street and the occasional contact with a street vendor. Varrick sighed, totally and completely ready to go home and jump back into inventing things. He slumped over unprofessionally, and at the same time caught sight of a very familiar hair style out of the corner of his eye. That had him shooting upright again.
“ Tarou!” he exclaimed, a grin splitting across his face as he rushed after the young boy.
"I’ve gotten plenty of variety in these years of traveling that I’ve done. After so much of that I really don’t see any problem with wanting to just settle and do nothing every once and a while." Nothing but bend that is, pushing his body to it’s limits, trying as he may to better his mind and spirit as well. Between training for air bending and earth bending alike he’d say he had his hands full on a daily basis. Ah, but Varrick only knew about his earth bending.
Listening in on what Varrick had been doing though struck Tarou as, odd more than anything. “Heh? You strike me as more the type to trouble the world than to aid it.” Perhaps he was being just a bit blunt with his opinion though. “But maybe that’s just something I see in that crooked grin of yours. But I guess even you can look like a criminal and not be half bad.”
Varrick could only shake his head. His younger companion seemed completely content to settle down already. He was a teenager, barely beginning his life! And already he'd wanted to settle down -never mind that he had mentioned to Varrick that he'd been a runaway during his earlier years. " You are a strange bender, kid," Varrick finally said with yet another head shake.
His mouth went slack, though, when Tarou said he seemed more like a criminal. After a second, Varrick pulled himself together and tried for his best poker face (not that he was the type to have a very good poker face). " Well, I'm hardly a criminal," he stated, internally cringing at the slight shake to his voice. He had committed his share of crimes, but that wasn't something Varrick just advertised. " Not me, no," he continued, " just an ordinary citizen trying to make his way!"

"You act like this is some sort of a big deal." Eyebrows quizzically furrowing on his head, unintentionally mimicking the mans facial expression in a way as the teenager was just as confused that Varrick seemed to surprised about him having not done anything. "I’m not all that interested in movers, and all of my friends seem like they’re busy so I haven’t seen them." What Varrick was trying to imply by asking of Tarou had met a ‘special someone’ flew right over his head. So he more or less ignored the question.
"I’ve just been focusing on my bending, like I said before that’s all that really matters to me." Although he had been lucky to avoid the topic of why the last time he met with Varrick. “What have you been doing?”
" It is a big deal!" Varrick exclaimed, smacking his hand to his own cheek dramatically. He stared down at Tarou as the boy went on to explain why he hadn't been doing much of anything. It was... Well, mind blowing! Varrick couldn't imagine not having many things to do constantly. He loved being cooped up building, but he didn't just exclusively build war weapons. He built mover sets and mover props and household items for Zhu Li. But Tarou just seemed completely focused on... Bending. Varrick didn't understand, but he attributed that to his non-bending nature.
With a shake of his head, Varrick said, " How can you only do one thing with your time?! Don't teenagers get bored? Need variety?" He muttered under his breath about confusing teenagers before perking up when he was asked what he'd been doing. " Creating, of course! Inventing things to make lives easier in this troubled world!"

Not that he thought any differently than he had back when he first met Varrick, even while they were sharing each others company at a restaurant he had continued to keep one impresson embedded in his mind. Sure, Varrick seemed like a..decent enough person, but never would Tarou actively seek to encounter him. So certainly maybe it was a sort of fate that had them run into each other again today.
If so, then fate must be laughing at him after Varrick had gone and made a comment the likes of which gave the teen reason to deadpan.Slowly he’d reach a hand up, only to brush Varrick’s hand off of his shoulder as he replied. “No, I have not been up to anything even remotely criminal. Besides practicing my bending really I haven’t done much at all since we last saw each other.”
Varrick blinked when Tarou pushed his hand away. What a way to start their second meeting ever. How rude! Varrick resisted the urge to sigh and shake his head and instead hummed at the teen answered him about not doing anything criminal. The inventor wasn't surprised -Tarou didn't actually seem the type to be a criminal. His reaction just greatly amused Varrick and he was a man who thrived off of other peoples' responses, be they negative or positive.
" You haven't done much?" Varrick repeated, shock coloring his voice. " Nothing? Nothing interesting? Haven't been to see any movers lately? They are quite good, if I do say so myself! You haven't even made friends? No special someone in your life? Nothing?"

No day was ever a simple one, sometimes his hair was never just right, other days everything seemed to be going wrong. Today had almost felt as if it was going to be bland and boring. But then while walking down the street he just had to hear his name being called out by a very familiar voice. It wasn’t until he turned around to face the direction he heard the voice though that the teenager quite honestly wished he had kept walking. That is, it wasn’t that he was unhappy to see his acquaintance, but their first meeting had been a tad bumpy, so it was understandable that he was a bit apprehensive. “Oh, hey Varrick.” He had a gut feeling that this day was about to get interesting.
He was glad when Tarou stopped for him. It would have been a pain to chase the boy down in the crowd of people in Republic City. Varrick jogged a few steps to catch up with Tarou, a grin firm on his face.
" Funny how we should run into each other again!" the inventor announced in his usual dramatic way before clapping Tarou hard on the shoulder. " It must have been meant to happen!" He gave Tarou a slight shake, grinning down at him all the while. Not once did it cross his mind that his presence might be unwelcome or that people might think it was weird -an older man basically accosting a teenager. " What have you been doing? Nothing too illegal, I hope!"
