Sorry I haven't been posting much in the last few weeks but I have been really busy studying and doing exams. I am finished this week so I promise I will start posting again hopefully over the weekend!

hi. i'm under 18 and i wanted to know if you have any tips how i yould convince my parents to allow me a piercing? :)

Hey sorry I haven't replied to you sooner but I have been doing exams. Well the excuse I always use is that I could be doing worse like injecting myself with stuff like I know alot of other people my age do. You could also say that it is a way for you to express who you are and that it is something you really want and that you aren't going to give up on. But I do know my parents are alot more relaxed than other parents about piercings. It also depends on what piercing you wanna get, my parents won't allow me get a tongue piercing until I am 18. And I didn't actually get my first surgical piercing until I was 15 nearly 16 so I wasn't very very young!!

I hope your parents allow you to get what you want and I'm sorry that I couldn't be more help!!

idk if anyone responded to you, but i was gunna let you know most normal colleges dont care. i go to ASU (no not arizona, if you are on the west coast) or Appalachian State University. we aren as hippie as UNC ashville, buuut im pretty sure ive had a professor every semester hittin the Js. lol anywho: i have my tongue pierced and a few in my ears and profs dont care at all. if you do you work they dont care(actually, if you dont do any work they dont care. they will just flunk you and not think twice lol) i have a retainer for my job, and for when I intern. my job doesnt allow it (though my boss said she doesnt care, just one day if someone higher up came in kinda thing) and Im an intern at a middle school, so i just wanna seem more professional. i plan on having it peirced as a teacher, but while im looking for a job i keep in the retainer. hope that helps!and if i ever had a teacher say things lik e"youd get better grades without all that metal" id go to the dean. they can be fired for all i care. dare then to say it to an Asian or a black person. see what happens.

I'm from Ireland actually! Ya everything has calmed down now that I have been wearing the retainer, so alls good! I did consider going to the principal but she actually HATES me and since its my last year in school I just decided to grin and bare it!! But if I have any problems in university I will be reporting it.

Tragus Piercing......

The tragus piercing involves inserting a needle into the tragus which projects immediately in front of the ear canal. The hollow, low-gauge needle used for the piercing can be either straight or curved, depending on the piercer's preferences. The piercer has to be careful not to allow the needle to penetrate any further than the tragus. Body piercers recommend about 12-18 weeks before changing the earring as it has a high risk of infection. Typical jewellery would be a small diameter captive bead ring or small gauge post style jewellery.

A related piercing is the anti-tragus piercing. This involves inserting a needle into the piece of cartilage opposite the ear canal. The healing time can be between 6 to 12 months.

Hey everyone!!!...

So tomorrow I will start back at going through different piercings. Tomorrow is also the day I go back to school after Xmas holidays, and so I have to go back to wearing a clear retainer for my lip piercing, as having facial piercings brings down the name of the school which isn't that hard to do to be honest....haha! So I was wondering how many of you have to hide/cover your piercings for school/college/work….etc.?????

I would also like to hear if any of one have been judged/discriminated against because of your piercings?? And how you deal with it?? As I have had some comments made by teachers about my piercings, stuff like “o you will never pass your exams with that piece of metal in your face”, “its horrible”, “I look forward to the day when its gone”……etc. The comments have lessened since I got the retainer, and I usually can handle them well but they do still get me down sometimes, but I do know that whatever has been said to me is not as nearly as bad as what has been said to other people……Replies would really be appreciated!

Tongue Piercings...........

A tongue piercing is a body piercing usually done directly through the center of the tongue, and is the most popular piercing site in the western society after the ear and nostril. Its healing time is about 6 months in total.

Types of tongue piercings:

Standard tongue piercing.

Double center tongue piercing~features two barbells in the center of the tongue, one behind the other.

Off-center tongue piercing.

Multiple tongue piercing~a combination of any of the above.

Horizontal tongue piercing~one barbell pierced horizontally through the tongue.

Frenulum tongue piercing~a hoop or barbell is pierced through the small flap of webbing underneath the tongue that connects it to the mouth. Not everyone is a candidate for this type of piercing as the web maybe too small or thin to safely wear jewellery.

Gauged tongue piercings~gauging is done by gradually upgrading the size of the jewellery little by little, coaxing the hole to fit larger jewellery until you have achieved the desired size.

Risks of tongue piercings:

Infection.

Swelling~a certain amount of swelling should be expected with any tongue piercing. The problem becomes dangerous if the tongue swells excessively. When swelling reaches crisis point, it can actually close off the airway. Suffocation is imminent without immediate medical intervention.

Nerve damage~tongue piercing is a delicate that requires great accuracy to avoid striking a nerve. If the piercing isn't placed in just the right place, you can wind up with permanent nerve damage. This could result in symptons such as, numbness, loss of taste, impaired speech ability, and restricted movement.

Choking/Inhalation hazards.

Gum damage.

Tooth damage.

*Gum damage and tooth damage can be prevented by using plastic balls instead of steel ones, and avoid playing with jewellery.*
