Today was a Bad art day but suspenders are always there for me.
“‘As for Grantaire, he had got beyond wine, that merely moderate inspirer of dreams”
I am a little high but what if people proposed with beautiful, intricate knives. Ladies would gather around the table and be like “guess what finally happened!!” And pull this beautiful, intricate dagger out of her purse and all the other ladies would gasp and congratulate her
Me: I’m a little high but –
Y'all rushing to that reblog button:
It’s an awesome idea tho
Because I have a tag for pretty weaponry, some knives I’d accept as proposals follow:
I said yes!
(but, actually, hubby bought me a dive knife when we got married so this works…)
I can 100% get behind this as a new tradition.
Ok but this is amazing becuase knives are dangerous and you can use them to hurt other people but when someone proposes with one it’s symbolic like “yes I love you and trust you so much I’m asking you a very vulnerable question with something you could hurt me with but I know you won’t”
@distanthystaricallaughter ♡ :3
Maybe the reason for Jehan and Marius being the only ones known by first and second name is that they are the only ones who get the “misbehave and I will call you by your full name” treatment.
As in “Marius Pontmercy step away from that tree right now!”
I am not saying they are the only ones who deserve it.
If I see one more post about people being mad because the BBC adaptation focuses on love instead of social justice because “Les Mis isn’t about love!” I am going to lose my mind because that is so fundamentally untrue
Valjean loves his family, so he steals to feed them
Bishop Myriel’s love for his fellow man is what allows Valjean to start life anew
Fantine loves Cosette, so she gives up her own life and happiness to provide for her
Enjolras and Les Amis love the poor of France and are willing to die to make life better for them
Marius’ father loves his son so much that he gives him up to ensure he has a good future
Gillenormand loves Marius enough to put aside their political differences to see him happy
The brotherly love between Les Amis is strong enough that they’ll die for each other
Valjean loves Cosette, so he saves Marius, even though he knows he’s giving up his own happiness by doing so- and later, he cuts himself out of Cosette’s life to shield her from the minuscule possibility that he will be rearrested after all these years
Valjean learning to love is literally the key focus of the plot how can you not acknowledge that
And as for the social justice bit, yes! It’s important. But even then, what does social justice come down to? Love and respect for your fellow human beings? I don’t even need to talk about romantic love! There are other types of love that are equally, or arguably more, important! And that’s what Les Mis is about! Brotherly love! Familial love! Sacrificial love! Love for mankind!
So okay! Maybe the BBC adaptation focuses too much on romantic love. I get it. But you cannot make the blanket statement that “Les Mis isn’t about love!” It’s not about romance but it IS about love!!!!
marius: commits treason and becomes an enemy of the state, probably killed a national guardsman or four
jean valjean: this boy has done no wrong!
shoutout to people who still write Les Mis fanfictions in 2018!!!!! i love you all!!!! !!!
My just turned one year old son’s three favourite musicals are heathers, les mis, and newsies. @enjoloras and i were trying to find the similarities and overlap between them, so i made this.
small brain: writing modern au fic where you use les amis’ brick surnames as their first names
normal size brain: putting lots of thought and research into coming up with appropriate and meaningful french first names to use in ur fic
bigger brain: they’re all called Jean
galaxy brain: These 21st Century Students Exclusively Refer To Their Dear Friends By Their Last Names As Some Sort Of Strange Power Move And None Of Them Thinks It’s Weird But Everyone Else Does
Grantaire is the most relatable character in all of Les Mis because I, too, am:
“Particularly ugly”
Bad at math
Definitely in love with Enjolras
Even the 1930s version had Enjoltaire.
The Confrontation
Javert: You cannot escape from the law!
Valjean:
Jean Valjean: wtf ‘dangerous man’?? are you people kidding me??? i stole bread for a starving child that’s hardly a crime worthy of this punishment!
Also Jean Valjean: Cosette can NEVER know about my past. what i did….my CRIME is too terrible….too shameful..she could never handle the truth…
Lily Collins in Les Misérables as Fantine airing Sunday 30th December at 9pm on BBC1
legit how hugo described enjolras in the book:
Valjean: *is shown mercy and kindness*
Valjean: *turns his life around, become the sweetest guy ever, become mayor, adopt a little girl*
Javert: *is shown mercy and kindness*
Javert:
Valjean
