Last Class
Since the beginning of my studies here at Concordia, the idea of creating an animation about my sister Joanne was always there. I can remember thinking I would try to make it a stereoscopic musical. I mean how wild would that have been? However last year, as I animated under one old senior oxberry camera, I spoke with a friend about my sister and how I wanted to do a film about her. I told my friend that Joanne had sacrificed so much and that she had to pole dance just to continue to do ballet. My friend encouraged me to include this in my animation. So here I was at the beginning of Animation 3 with the idea that I would somehow encapsulate all these complex ideas of who my sister was in a 2 minute film. The animation has evolved so much from the start of the class. Although the pole dancing scenes were taken out, I feel that the struggle and sacrifice can still be felt in ballet alone. I hope that my animation can portray that in some way. I still have some texturing left to do, but it is almost finished. I am so thankful and happy to have known my fellow classmates who are graduating with me this year. We had great teachers along the way and it was an amazing 3 years studying here at Concordia!
