Uh, well, I was supposed to get this done for ETN's birthday, but bcs of work I couldn't :'D

Anyway, I wanted to give a crack at redrawing the OG ETN cover! :) Here are two versions, with and without text! Feel free to click on them to check out the details :D

I saw that Vograce has acrylic charm necklaces, so I decided to design a little something special since I was already planning on making some charms with that other design I posted :)

I've been wanting to do this for ages now, but here's an actual height chart showing Randy and Nomi's heights. Randy is 5'0 exactly, while Nomi is 6'5. I ORIGINALLY intended for Nomi to be 6'0, but while drawing them it just... did not work with what I have in the rewrite, hence them being a freaking giant now lol

This was also a test of how closely I could draw the show's style. I would say I had some moderate success, but I know there are certain traits and quirks that are unique to my style that don't necessarily exist in the show. I might give this another shot some other time, but for now, I'm satisfied. Additionally, I simplified Nomi's design a tiny bit since I wanted to draw them as if they were a character that was going to be animated--- I don't know if I succeeded there or not lol

Anyway, this was fun! If anyone wants to draw their OCs like this, I can definitely post the blank chart with Randy :]

Hey there! I've been here for ages, but I've been busy working on the rewrite for ETN!

As for why Nomi is taller than Randy now-- I decided to make them tall! Simple as that! :) (It also reflects that Nomi is now 18 instead of 15 like in OG ETN)

I will always adore tiny Nomi though 🥰💖

Additionally, Nomi goes by they/them pronouns out of respect for the creator's original vision of the human Nomicon! I know Nights once mentioned that people could do whatever they wanted with the concept, but I always felt bad for being too scared to write a non-binary character. It was partially due to barely knowing anything about LGBTQ+ identities, but also because I was too scared of messing up (so I ended up not trying at all). This rewrite is my chance to fix that and do better for people who identify as non-binary. :3

Anywho, tldr; Nomi is tall and they are enby.

I think you should post the chapters from (just one example) week to week, and take a break from part to part. This would give you time to write and not keep readers waiting.

Hello anon, I have considered doing this! However, a big reason why I don't think this would be a good idea is because part 1 of the rewrite will pretty much stop exactly where OG ETN did, and I feel like it'd be cruel to take a break at that point. Especially, after being on such a long hiatus for years at this point 🥲

Either way, I don't know for sure what I'll do since I do have to sit down and plan part 2 more thoroughly. I have a few chapters already more or less figured out (no solid outlines yet) and a general idea of what I want out of part 2, but yea, it is nowhere near as fleshed out as part 1.

(I also have ideas for “interlude” chapters, but those will probably be last priority and won't be as long as regular chapters. They will pretty much help fill in any informational gaps wherever needed, especially for stuff that I can't fit into regular chapters.)

Tldr; I don't want to publish stuff and have people waiting in the exact same spot as before, and I would prefer getting as much done as possible before publishing anything. However, there is a chance I will publish one part at a time.

If Nomi had alcohol, how did they get it? Wasn't them a book? How old was them when they taste for the first time?

In my AU and fic (ETN), Nomi was always a human before they got cursed and bound to the Nomicon. (They get cursed during a battle against the Sorcerer.) While Nomi can't permanently leave the Nomicon (or leave too far away from it), they can still walk around as a human. The only reason they don't do it more often is to avoid being discovered by the Sorcerer and because they prefer staying in the Nomicon. It makes training ninjas less painful if they don't become attached :’) Additionally, it's pretty hard for Nomi to maintain their human form for more than a day.

Onto how old Nomi was when they first drank and how they even got a hold of alcohol— I swear I'm not trying to promote underage drinking or anything, but Nomi came from a time where there wasn't a solid legal drinking age in either Japan (where their parents and much of the villagers of their old home were from) or America (aside from the local natives, the Norisu colony, according to RC9GN’s weird history, were the first to settle in America). There likely wasn't serious regulation or enforcement on what age you could drink, and it probably rested on individual clans and families to decide for themselves :0 So, yea,, , I don't have an exact age for when Nomi first drank alcohol. They could have been somewhere between 15 - 18 years old (their current biological age) when they first had alcohol. I never decided ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

And where or how did Nomi get a hold of alcohol? They pretty much just bought it themselves 😅 At least, before Americans made underage drinking a more serious concern and established a legal drinking age, but by that point, Nomi wasn't really drinking alcohol anyway.

Hello!!! Just a quick little head's up, I want to respect N//otNi//ghts original vision of the human Nomicon, so Nomi is non-binary, and I will be referring to them with they/them pronouns! I encourage you to do the same :3

SO,, , Nomi has drunk alcohol. They had a slightly unhealthy relationship with alcohol for a small while. After the deaths of their family and being cursed, they were… in a very dark place, and they sort of used alcohol to cope. Mind you it wasn't excessive, binge drinking, but it still wasn't okay either. They got better over time, and they don't really drink much after this. (Especially, whenever they're teaching their Ninjas, as a book or human.) However, they do have a healthier relationship with alcohol, and they can drink responsibly now.

I wanted to know about the Norisu, how did they die? and in a "if" scenario they manage to survive inside the Nomicon and meet Randy, how would they react to him?

Oh, hm. Okay, so I can't fully answer this because of a potential spoiler, but just know that I'm not changing the deaths of Nomi's parents. They both died when Nomi was still very young. As for their siblings and grandfather, I can't go into detail on how they died, but in short, their deaths were pretty gruesome. Think of it like this: their deaths were on par with deaths of Ancient Japan.

In a scenario where they somehow get to meet Randy, I'd like to think most of Nomi's family would generally approve of him. Naru would get along with Randy the best after Nomi, Yui would think he's just a silly little guy, etc. I think the only family member that wouldn't be very fond of Randy would be Daiku— he would need a lot of convincing that Randy is capable of being the Ninja or worthy of being with Nomi.

oh my god I'm so happy you're writing this, your fanfic basically shaped my character when I was younger. and it helped me learn English since I had to translate it at the time XD If it's not inconvenient, is there any estimate of when it will be posted? (You do not need to answer if you do not want)

And, this is not an inconvenient question at all!!!! So, I've been working on the rewrite on and off over the years, reworking the plot and planning out chapters.

My plan is for the rewrite to be three parts (all published under one fic), and I initially thought to write the ENTIRE fic before publishing anything. This is because I didn't want people to have to keep waiting for chapters like with OG ETN 🥲

But, with how long I'm taking to work on just part one... I'm starting to wonder if maybe I should consider publishing each part as I finish them. My only issue with this is that part one will basically stop in the exact same place as ETN did originally :'D

I'll have to have a chat with my editor over this, but for now, it's a tentative "in the coming future." 😅 For context, part one has around twenty chapters planned out, so.... It'll be awhile before I get these chapters completed anyway 😅

Additionally, I was thinking about getting illustrations done for some of the chapters, either my own work or commissioned pieces (I don't know if I would have the money to cover the second option akdnskdnsmszksms)

My God, it had been years, I don't know if this blog is still open or anything but... I wanted to thank you for writing your story back in 2015! When I was a teen I love it haha, and I ship Randicon yeah but mostly I was there for the lore! So... Thank you and I can't wait to read the rewrite ver.
