Something You Are Denied

Title: Something You Are Denied Characters: John Kane & Molly Phillips Time Frame: Pre Series Lyric: “The thing you’ve always been denied” - Watching And Waiting

“I love you.” John tells her after everyone else had left the house, she thought it was odd hesitated so long; now it made sense.

“And I love you too.” She tries to keep her voice calm, neutral even.

“No, Molly. I am in love with you. Don’t marry Rick tomorrow.”

“Shit. Please John don’t do this.”

“You are amazing. So beautiful. Smart. God!” John slams his clenched fist on the counter.

“Thank you. But you know this will never work. And that you are not actually in love with me like that. You are of things changing between the three of us. I promise you they won’t.”

“That’s bullshit. Things have already changed. And once you start popping kids that’ll be fucking nail in the coffin.”

“No, John. Please.” Molly stops unsure what else to day. 

“Please, what?” John snarls.

“Please don’t make this weird.”

“Is it weird because you know I am right? And we should be together?” At that something snaps, Molly walks up and slaps John across the face.

“You are an ass. I know you are used to getting whatever you want but I can reassure you, John; this will always be something you are denied. And to save your life I will not say anything about this to Rick. Now get out of my house.”

“He doesn’t deserve you.”

“Well neither do you.”

Never Thought

Rachel never thought she would have children. She didn’t mind them, just never felt they were apart of her path in life.

Now as she sits holding her husband’s hand, another mark she never thought would tick across from the lawyer, her heart is pounding.

“We have a little boy that needs a home. We think you two would be perfect for him.”

“Yes.” Her husband says without consoling her first.

“Does he have a name?”

“Yes, he’s three weeks old and they are calling him Richard or Ricky, but you can cha…” 

Rachel begins to sob “No, it’s perfect.”

Turmoil

“Am I doing the right thing?”

“How many times do I have to tell you yes?”

“Won’t people think I’m abandoning my daughter?:

“Absolutely not!”

“It feels like I am, Melinda.”

“Look Molly you are an amazing mother and you are listening and respectng Fi’s needs.”

“I know, still doesn’t make it any easier. And…”

“Out with it Mol.”

“Like I failed her. I know you said I am an amazing mom, but it’s hard to believe. It feels as if I’m cursed sometimes and everyone I care about ends up leaving.”

“I will be honest with you, okay?”

“Okay.”

“That is fucking ridiculous! You are not cursed. Fi, just needs a change of scenery and to stay still for awhile.”

“I could pause touring…”

“No! Stop making excuses and reasons to back out. It’s done. Fi will be safe here.”

“I never doubted that Melinda.”

“And very loved.”

“I know. I know.”

“Good. I understand this has to be difficult, but I really do believe this will be best for both of you.”

“I am just gonna miss her so much.”

“I would be concerned if you didn’t, Molly.”

“Thanks for everything Mel.”

“Anytime, anything.”
