Look at this lovely longhorn beetle!  It’s easy to see why these beetles are often prized by collectors.

My Tiputini book tells me that katydids in the genus Schedocentrus are dead leaf mimics.  This one I found in the area certainly matches the photo- so I’m just gonna go with that ID and call it a day.  Katydids are hugely diverse in rainforests and most are new to science.

Glorious Leaf Beetle - Paropsisterna gloriosa

This beautiful beetle scientifically named Paropsisterna gloriosa (Coleoptera - Chrysomelidae) is a species of leaf beetle known by the sharply defined metallic color of its elytra. The species is native to Australia where it is a plantation pest on eucalypts, and has been accidentally introduced to the Eucalyptus-growing areas in the world.

Found a couple of locust borers (Megacyllene robiniae) resting on the undersides of milkweed leaves in my yard. They must have spent all day munching on goldenrod pollen because they were both leaving behind little trails of bright yellow frass…
