one of the things i love the most about piranesi is how the main character is this kind, inquisitive person who loves the world he inhabits and feels loved by it in turn, and how this is not something he needs to grow past, rather it is what saves him and keeps him alive. being observant, curious, wanting to learn about the House, being grateful for all it gives him, this is what keeps him alive and what helps him through the events that take place

so madeline miller based her patroclus off the troilus and cressida rendition and one line specifically, something like ‘war makes him sick to think of’ but patroclus in the iliad is actually a fucking goat. he’s fast, a good healer, noticeably older that achilles (older men had beards and in most art renditions patroclus was bearded) and was literally so good in achilles’s armor that the gods had to prevent him from taking troy. HE WOULD HAVE TAKEN TROY. Homer’s Patroclus was the guy that cried to Achilles about all the men dying and then proceeded to whoop ass about it. icon. he also made achilles promise to marry briseis, which is actually really nice because it means briseis would have a real place of power and security rather than being a slave for life.
