spirited away - pushya & ashlesha (cancer)
Main characters in Ghibli Studio's "Spirited Away" nearly all have Pushya and/or Ashlesha nakshatra.
As Hayao Miyazaki's most famous film, “Spirited Away" follows Chihiro as she ventures into the world of spirits and works in a bathhouse for a witch Yubaba.
Both Pushya and Ashlesha are located in the sign of Cancer, a watery sign which relates to the film's setting. Cancer natives may also feel strong ties to home, reflected in Chihiro's desire to return to the real world and get back her parents.
Lin Japanese VA (ashlesha sun, ashwini/bharani moon), English VA (dhanishta sun, pushya moon) Kamaji Japanese VA (ashlesha sun, mrigashira moon), English VA (swati sun, pushya moon)
Lin and Kamaji both help Chihiro throughout the film, and both are voiced by Ashlesha and Pushya natives.
Ashlesha's ruling deities are the Nagas, demigods who mythologically reside near clean waterways like rivers. Similarly, Lin in the film literally helps to clean a river spirit.
In the modern day, cleaning products are often created with chemicals and sometimes toxins. Ashlesha is also known to deal with poisons and Kamaji in the film also grinds herbs to bathe the spirits.
(Note: Interestingly, Levi Ackerman in AOT also has Ashlesha combined with his interest in cleaning)
Chihiro English VA (pushya sun, magha/p. phalguni moon), Japanese VA (pushya sun, hasta/chitra moon)
Dirty spaces themselves, however, are traditionally symbolised by Saturn, which also represents hard work and servitude.
Along with Kamaji and Lin, the main character Chihiro is voiced by a Pushya sun native in both the original and English dub, a nakshatra ruled by the planet. Not only does she work tediously, she persists, never complains and concentrates on her goal of rescuing her parents.
When No-Face -a classically Rahuvian character literally voiced by a Shatabhisha sun- offers her free gold, Chihiro refuses, demonstrating Pushya's strength of self-discipline and humility. Long term effort > fast material gains.
No Face (shatabhisha sun, bharani/krittika moon)
Pushya's adherence to hard work and balance, not cutting corners/using cheap tricks, stops them from falling victim to scams, shown by Chihiro not being consumed by No Face.
(Another interesting note: Shatabhisha's symbol is the empty circle, representating how it absorptive/consuming power. No-Face literally takes on others' voices after consuming them and reflects the personalities around it)
Zeniba and Yubaba Japanese VA (bharani sun, pushya/ashlesha moon)
The next character with either Pushya or Ashlesha is Yubaba and Zeniba (who are voiced by the same VA!).
The fourth-tenth house axis connects to the theme of sacrificing one's private life for public status and career or vice versa. Yubaba chooses a capitalistic lifestyle (10th house) while Zeniba, her twin, focuses on developing a comfortable home life (4th house), a choice that is celebrated in the end.
Yubaba confines her baby to quarantine him from "germs" (the dirtiness of the outside world) represents an Ashlesha overprotectiveness which may sometimes occur, a maternal instinct which can become throttling in some cases.
Meanwhile, Zeniba turns Bo into a rat to run on a treadmill, showing why ultimate growth/expansion/Jupiter is exalted in Pushya; sustenance (Moon, which rules Cancer) infused with structure/discipline (Saturn) allows people to develop properly.
Haku Japanese VA (dhanishta sun, uttara bhadrapada moon) River Spirit Japanese VA (pushya sun, mrigashira moon)
Although Haku, the boy who helps Chihiro and is Yubaba's student, isn't voiced by a Pushya or Ashlesha native, his VA likely has Uttara bhadrapada moon, which has similar energies to Pushya as both are ruled by Saturn.
Further, Uttara bhadrapada's deity is Ahirbudhnya, literally the serpent of the deep. Haku is literally a river/dragon.
Even the stink/river spirit, which barely makes sounds, is voiced by a Pushya native, cementing the heavy Pushya/Ashlesha energies of the film.
Boh Japanese VA (krittika sun, ashwini moon), Aogaeru (ashwini asc, purva bhadrapada sun, ashwini moon)
Last, but certainly not least, Boh is voiced by an Ashwini moon. I think it is cool to consider how Zeniba's emphasis on moderate hardship to ensure growth coalesces with the idea of effectively channeling Ashwini's dispersed yet plentiful energy. Also, isn't it cliché how the literal baby is played by an Ashwini native, given it's the very first nakshatra?
The frog that is consumed by greed is also Ashwini voiced.
Thus, I think it's fair to say that Spirited Away carries heavy emphasis on Pushya and Ashlesha, possibly shedding light on how these nakshatras manifest in the real world.
Ardra- Human experimentation
Josef Mengele (Ardra asc, Purva bhadrapada sun, Hasta moon)
Ardra is highly prominent in the leaders of human experimentation programs through history. Unit 731, Auschwitz medical experiments, Project MKUltra- these are the most famous examples of conducting unethical experiments on humans whose central leading figure are all Ardra natives.
Note: obviously this post does not condone or excuse these experiments in any shape or form. The content may be triggering though explicit images will not be shown.
Shiro Ishii (Ardra sun, Ardra moon), Sidney Gottlieb (Chitra asc, Ashlesha Sun, Ardra moon)
Ardra's desire is to rule over wild forces: "May I become lord of the animals". This includes both the natural order and human nature, explaining why the nakshatra is linked with scientists, who -through science- manage to manipulate and rule over nature. This is reflected in the mad scientist archetype which I believe Ardra embodies.
For example, Sidney Gottlieb was head of the CIA and responsible for the implementation of MKUltra, a project which attempted to develop mind and behaviour control techniques against the Soviets during the Cold War.
Nonetheless, Ardra's dark side represents the total rejection of divinity which curses individuals to pursue reason to extreme ends at the cost of compassion and humanity.
Human rights abuses are countless in all the cases shown. Unit 731 led by Shiro Ishii, for instance, used live vivisections and tested biological weapons on -mostly- Chinese civilians. Of the approximately 200,000 to 500,000 people who entered, no one made it out alive.
In some cases, human experimentation is used for medical cures. Ardra's deity Rudra is considered a healer with "a thousand medicines". The Guatemala Syphilis Experiments began as attempting to develop a cure for syphilis.
However, as was said, the results of these experiments are abhorrent, and the goal of the studies were not strictly for scientific purposes, but due to confirmation bias deliberately tried to fuel individual prejudices.
John Charles Carter (Ardra sun, Shravana moon) led the Guatemala Syphilis Experiments, a series of human experiments which continued 30 years after the cure for syphilis was found due to a desire to find research that highlighted racial differences- this was, unsurprisingly, not found.
The Tuskegee Syphilis experiments were similar. Led by Taliaferro Clark (Ardra sun, Krittika moon), they heavily exploited African Americans without regard for their health or informed consent.
Since Ardra is placed in Gemini and before Punarvasu, which represents rejuvenation, I wonder if Ardra depicts a kind of apocalypse or storm brought on by conforming to intellectual extremes- a sort of "goals trump the means" sort of attitude. These examples are obviously extreme, however, so I doubt most Ardra natives would relate to this. I am only trying to show the darker side of the nakshatra.
Below you can find a Google search of the worst cases of human experimentation.
It goes on:
Out of the 6 cases listed, 5 were led by or whose most famous pioneers were Ardra natives.
Ardra, ordinarily portrayed by its deity Rudra, represents the destroyer of evil, negativity and ignorance. However, when taken too far, it falls into the evil and ignorance it tries to vanquish while attempting to achieve its goal.
If you search up doctors who participated in these heinous crimes, however, you'll find that the nakshatras represented are far more varied than just Ardra, so it's untrue to state that only Ardra is responsible or even that Ardra is most represented in doctors participating in the experiments. We can only note that the projects' leaders tend to be of this nakshatra.
Thus, there tends to be a pattern of Ardra natives being associated with human experimentation throughout history.
Claire Danes playing Juliet (Revati sun, Chitra moon). Nana Osaki VA (Uttara ashadha sun, Revati moon)
In 'Romeo and Juliet' as well as 'Nana', fish represent freedom which both characters long for but cannot reach.

Venus - World War Two Spies
Christine Granville (Bharani sun, Krittika moon), Noor Inayat Khan (Uttara phalguni asc, Purva ashadha sun, Shatabhisha moon)
Venus can grant a native a sweet demeanour that, when weaponised, can be dangerous. The 4 most prominent female spies of WW2 all have Venus nakshatras. This is a post exploring potentially why.
Traditionally, Venus resides in the fire rashis (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius), but it is also known for being the planet of love. It is not surprising, then, that aggression, bravery and charm are intertwined with the legacies of these prominent spies of WW2. Shukra/Venus is known for having the power of resurrection, which may relate to its natives having immense vitality.
Granville, her real name being Maria Skarbek, was dubbed Britain's "most glamorous spy" due to her beauty. Most importantly, she was the "bravest of the brave", acting as the longest serving spy for the SOE.
Noor Inayat Khan also used her charms to evade capture and collect information. For example, she once convinced an unknowing Nazi officer to set up radio communications for her.
Nancy Wake (Purva phalguni sun, Uttara bhadrapada moon) "The White Mouse", Virginia Hall (Revati sun, Purva phalguni moon) "The Limping Lady"
Similarly, Nancy Wake described her travels during WW2: "a little powder and a little drink on the way, and I'd pass German posts and wink and say, 'Do you want to search me?' God, what a flirtatious bastard I was."
However, with as much charm as Venus lends its natives, it also grants a ruthlessness. Purva ashadha, for example, is said to represent the battles of an army. Venus nakshatras (along with Magha and Purva bhadrapada) are all categorised as Ugra nakshatras, meaning 'fierce'.
When Wake suspected a girl prostitute as being a German spy, without hesitation, she ordered for her execution. Virginia Hall was called "the most dangerous Allied spy" by the Nazis due to her effectiveness at setting up resistance networks, gathering intelligence and later escaping on a wooden prosphetic leg across the Pyrenees mountains.
Venus is also capable of immense persistence, perhaps due to the planet's intensity. When her fellow spies were caught, instead of returning back to Britain, Noor Khan remained in France and did the jobs of 6 radio operators. Nancy Wake is also famous for her 500km bike ride to deliver radio codes to resistance members.
Bharani is known as 'the bearing star', said to grant the ability to carry burdens and portray self-control. It's my interpretation that other Venusian nakshatras may relate to that trait also. At least, this is far from the purely indulgent and pleasure-seeking tendences people commonly associate with Venus.
Here, you can see, of the 5 most famous/acclaimed female spies in WW2, 4 have Venus in their sun or moon.
Juan Pujol Garcia (Rohini asc, Dhanishta sun, Purva ashadha moon), Ian Fleming (Rohini sun, Bharani moon)
I wanted to include 2 other very famous WW2 spies. Garcia is often said to be the most influential of all spies in WW2 for misleading the Germans on D-Day operations. Another Venus influenced spy during WW2 was Fleming, the writer of James Bond. Nonetheless, overall, there are comparatively less male than female spies with Venus dominance.
Thus, although Venus outwardly seems gracile and sweet, some research about the key players in WW2's covert intelligence operations may show how capable Venus is in the toughest of times.
Taurus and Cancer - VEDIC SIGNS OF ROMANCE ANIME
Out of all 36 placements from voice actors of prominent Shoujo/romance animes I surveyed, 17 were in Taurus and/or Cancer nakshatras- two times more than expected.
My Dress Up Darling: Marin (Ashwini sun, Vishakha moon), Wakana Gojo (Magha sun, Ashlesha/Pushya moon). Your Name: Mitsuha (Shravana sun, Purva ashadha/Uttara ashadha moon), Taki Tachibana (Krittika sun, Ashwini moon)
Taurus is an earth sign ruled by Venus, lending its association with romance, pleasure and the fluff common in Shoujo. Taurus also inherently harbors many romantic themes, with Krittika being the dagger that cuts through the darkness and rescues/earns access to the abundance of a relationship (Rohini). Mrigashira represents the chase spurred on by desire.
Cancer is a water sign ruled by the Moon- like Venus, a traditionally feminine planet (consider how Shoujo's target audience is high school girls). Compared to Taurus, it connects more towards relationships generally. Punavarsu and Pushya are both linked to nourishment potentially accessed via relationships, while Ashlesha considers the warming up of oneself to others.
Loving Yamada at Lvl999: Yamada (Ashlesha sun, Mrigashira moon), Akane (Anuradha sun, Revati moon). Horimiya: Miyamura (Ashlesha sun, Mrigashira moon) Kyouko Hori (Shravana sun, Krittika/Rohini moon)
In 'Loving Yamada at Lvl999' and 'Horimiya', Yamada and Miyamura, voiced by the same voice actor, both have the character growth of coming out of their shell (Ashlesha sun), just as Ashlesha starts off being repressed/disconnected from others, and through a relationship with a somewhat motherly figure (Akane and Hori respectively), becomes more willing to socialise. Similarly, though the physical appearance of both characters (Mrigashira moon) play a significant role in attracting and intriguing the partner, propelling the romantic plot into action, both characters are said to take the lead in connecting with their female leads. Mrigashira can reflect both the object inspiring desire as well as the chaser which desire affects.
In Taurus, the lack of Ketu and Rahu nakshatras perhaps proposes the idyllic scenario where affection is not constrained by outside forces. It is a realm where true love is the culmination of playing purely with attraction, which nearly always works out for the protagonists. This may explain why Shoujo anime/manga can feel unrealistic and like wish fulfillment, because characters don't need to worry about external problems and love interests can seemingly 'have it all' in personality, looks and intelligence in the realm of eternal abundance afforded by Taurus.
Oregairu: Yukino Yukinoshita (Rohini sun, Jyeshta moon), Hachiman (Krittika sun, Purva/Uttara bhadrapada moon). Toradora: Taiga (Rohini sun, Punavarsu/Pushya moon), Ryuji (Krittika sun, Punavarsu/Pushya moon)
For both 'Oregairu' and 'Toradora', the male lead is a Krittika sun with a Jupiter or Saturn nakshatra moon, while the female lead has Rohini sun. MLs in both cases are grouchy and pessimistic about love, cutting -in typical Krittika fashion- to what they believe is the truth: that true love doesn't exist, or at least it doesn't for them. However, when they inevitably fall for the FL, they both help their partner practically, sometimes to the point of self-sacrifice.
FLs in both shoujo works are Rohini and prominent characters when it comes to the 'tsundere' stereotype- characters which initially seem harsh/aggressive but reveal a warmer side later on. This is different to the shyness of Ashlesha, and more of an abrasive almost childish presumptiousness that leads them to seem less-than-likable to anyone except the ML. They reveal a crucial layer of why Rohini is connected to love; because love triggers the sometimes irrational/outrageous impulses, like jealousy, possessiveness, self-consciousness and embarassment; in fact, not only feeling such emotions, but following and serving them too. Despite it all, the unlimited unconventional self-expression of the Rohini natives is what attracts the ML in the end- an ode to the importance of remaining true to oneself.
In Toradora, it's interesting that both the ML and FL have either Punavarsu or Pushya moon. Interestingly, both characters lack a traditional stable home, which they find in each other. The ML grew up in a single-parent household, causing him to develop his independence early, while the FL consistently ran away from the problems in her family. Together, the ML takes care of FL, helping her slowly confront her parents, while the FL helps the ML build confidence to confess to his crush. Crucially, they help each other grow as people, reflecting the Cancerian nourishment individuals may gain from relationships.
I Want to Eat Your Pancreas: Sakura (Rohini sun, Rohini moon), Haruki Shiga (Rohini sun, Purva ashadha moon). Your Lie in April: Kosei (Ardra sun, Jyeshta/Mula moon), Kaori (Punavarsu sun, Mrigashira/Ardra moon).
(SPOILER ALERT AHEAD) Last, in both 'I Want to Eat Your Pancreas' and 'Your Lie in April', the potentially Taurus nakshatra FL who wants to live inspires the ML to do the same, before dying themselves. Rohini teaches us to cherish the everyday things and feel satisfied with the wealth of joy which ordinary life affords us. For example, in IWETEYP, the main pair even make a promise to see the cherry blossoms together in spring (Rohini core?) as a way of enjoying the life the FL still has left. Taurus uses romance to teach us to appreciate the beauty of living.
Meanwhile, Mrigashira uses interpersonal desire to elevate oneself. Our commitment to other people, romantic or otherwise, spurred on by attraction, can cause us to confront our fears, weaknesses and shortfalls, leading to the want to improve ourselves. In YLIA, the potentially Mrigashira FL inspires the ML to play the piano again, helping him find joy by pursuing music once more.
On a final note, the FL (with Punavarsu sun) also serves to counteract the negative perspective the ML has had on piano ever since his heavily strained relationship with his mother caused him to lose joy in playing. This suggests -once again- that perhaps why Cancer is so prominent in Shoujo is because love often nourishes and heals individuals.
Do fictional characters have astrology charts?
At first, I thought that's ridiculous. But then I did the charts of Harry, Ron and Hermione, as well as Daniel, Rupert and Emma, and realised they had many similarities.
Daniel Radcliffe (Pushya sun, Uttara bhadrapada moon), Harry Potter (Pushya sun, Uttara bhadrapada moon)
The most stunning similarity is that Daniel and Harry have the exact same Sun and Moon nakshatras. Neither have their birth time available. However, Daniel's Moon nakshatra at 12pm is UPB pada 3, so it's most likely not Puva bhadrapada as many have confused. The fact that Cancer sun and Pisces moon is also very fitting. Harry's story is home + his death then resurrection bear many similarities with Christ.
Harry's journey to Hogwarts mirrors the Uttara bhadrapada/Cinderella theme of earning the freedom/benefits of years of being in service of an evil stepparent/relative- in this case, his aunt and uncle. Above is an excerpt of Stephen King's review of Harry Potter.
Rupert Grint (Magha sun, Purva ashadha moon), Ron Weasley (Shathabisha sun, Purva phalguni moon)
Next, both Rupert and Ron share a Venus nakshatra placement as well as shadow planets as their Sun. Ron is seen as the heart of the golden trio and perhaps Venus' cliché of indulgence and comfort -to some degree- manifest here.
Magha and Purva phalguni are also in Leo, though, which is represented by the lion.
Emma Watson (Hasta asc, Ashwini sun, Mula moon), Hermione Granger (Uttara phalguni sun, Magha moon)
Both Emma and Hermione's actual birthday share a luminary nakshatra in Virgo and at least one Ketu nakshatra, typically embodying the bookwarm archetype. I even feel like Uttara phalguni suits Hermione's bossy political nature more than Hasta, but both are in Virgo so the difference isn't too stark.
Interestingly, JK Rowling (Pushya sun, Uttara phalguni moon), has also said that Uttara phalguni sun-Hermione was an exaggerated version of herself at age 11, whereas she says she sees in Harry the grief she had for her mother's loss (quick reminder that Harry and Dan both have Pushya sun). It could very well be that JK Rowling unconsciously picked up on astrological energies while choosing the birthdays of the main characters.
Ginny Weasley (Ashlesha sun, Mula moon), Bonnie Wright (Dhanishta sun, Uttara bhadrapada moon)
(Art credits to 'smoustart')
Meanwhile, for a casting which many have said doesn't reflect the books very well, Ginny and Bonnie share no common placements. In fact, Ashlesha is the nakshatra directly opposite Dhanishta. Mula's Ketu energies also are quite different to Saturn's.
Tom Riddle (Hasta asc, Purva ashadha sun, Anuradha moon), Hitler (Chitra asc, Ashwini sun, Purva ashadha moon), Christian Coulson (Hasta sun, Chitra moon)
Last, another extremely interesting case is Tom Riddle/Voldemort.
Tom is the only character who's given what's close to a birth time. JKR said he's born at night, and I think internet consensus is that his birthday is close to midnight/New Years Day. Therefore, by inputting 11:59pm as his birthtime, we get... Hasta ascendant. I've already elaborated about how his actor (Christian Coulson, with Hasta sun, Chitra moon) demonstrates the trickery and manipulation which Hasta individuals may use to achieve their goals.
However, given Voldemort is often called Wizard Hitler, it's also interesting that he shares placements with the actual Hitler. Hasta and Chitra are right next to each other, while both have Purva ashadha moon. Purva ashadha's discriminatory qualities (being represented by the sieve), when highly exaggerated, perhaps may explain why parallels exist between Voldemort's discrimination against Muggleborns and Hitler's obviously abhorrent racial policies- this is, however, only a hypothesis.
Purva ashadha is also the monkey/alien yoni, which is enemy to the sheep yoni (including Pushya, which Harry has also as his sun).
...
Once again, these are just observations/partial interpretations. I don't think every piece of fiction likely has these parallels; it may only occur if the author intentionally selected the birthdays.
Shatabhisha- Kings of Pop
Frank Sinatra (jyeshta sun, shatabhisha moon), Elvis Presley (purva ashadha sun, shatabhisha moon)
Shatabhisha holds an unnaturally strong presence in male pop stars of immense fame and stardom. Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Prince and Michael Jackson all have Shatabhisha moon, with each having a sun nakshatra of different planets. This is a post exploring potentially why.
Rahu is the planet of illusion which allows them to cast a spell over the masses. Frank Sinatra was especially famous in the 1940s and was termed the first male sex symbol before, you guessed it, Shatabhisha moon Elvis Presley.
Shatabhisha is the great overseer/the one with 1000 eyes. The level of fame which they obtain while living literally enable them to be a constant presence in ordinary people's lives, embedded in the culture they're in. This is different to other pop stars whose name isn't automatically related to being extraordinarily famous.
Michael Jackson (magha asc, magha sun, shatabhisha moon)
Lord Varuna, the deity of Shatabhisha, is known as being "Chief of the Asuras". Asuras are demi-gods in the early Vedic period, some of whom who are "addicted to passions" like lust, envy and pride among others. The Asuras were dispelled from Mount Sumeru after becoming drunk. Perhaps it can be interpreted that fans of their music are like the Asuras, and Shatabhisha is the one which guides them.
The official King of Pop is Michael Jackson. What differentiates these men is their almost kingly status. They aren't like modern pop-stars who seem personable and relatable. Rather, they're something else entirely- almost a concept.
It is also very cool that Michael Jackson embedded military and almost kingly motifs which effectively portrayed him (in very Magha-fashion) as a ruler (example shown above).
Prince (mrigashira sun, shatabhisha moon)
Shatabhisha is symbolised by an empty circle. This may denote Shatabhisha's ability to take in massive amounts of energy and become otherwise infinite in reputation and persona, allowing Shatabhisha natives to seem larger than life. People can propel their own beliefs about who the person is, feeding into para-social relationship that advance their fame. This may also be why these Shatabhisha's were known as heart-robs. Their reputation precedes them.
Nonetheless, Rahu also brings in the theme of isolation, allowing these natives to climb to a height where they are absolutely singular (except perhaps some must share the space with their cosmic brothers).
However, this is dependent on Rahu's magic, secrecy. Shatabhisha is also "the Veiled Star". It is said that much of Michael Jackson's fame came from the world being captivated by his mystery. They needed to go to his concerts to see him. Interviews happened rarely and even if they did the artist had more say in what was published. This allowed Shatabhisha natives shield their inner world in order to mentally/emotionally cope with the level of external projection thrown onto them as well as enabled them to achieve the almost demi-god like status in entertainment.
Nowadays, in a world where information is far more publicised, famous people are exposed, etc., perhaps this may be why our generation doesn't have a Michael Jackson of our own.
Shravana, Purva ashadha, Pushya blend
James Joyce (purva ashadha ascendant, shravana sun, pushya moon), David Bowie (shravana ascendant, purva ashadha sun, pushya moon)
I was researching highly censored individuals/creatives and came across this pair. Joyce wrote Ulysses, a novel which contravened grammatical, stylistic and sexual conventions of the time, while Bowie defied gender and other norms with his music and self-expression.
Both also wear eye patches, have eye ailments and have associations with lightning (Joyce had a chronic fear of it while Bowie painted a lightning on his face for the album cover of Aladdin Sane)
Attack on Titan astrological exploration (Pisces nakshatras & Ashlesha)
(Part 1, Part 2)
PS. I strongly recommend you first watch the anime or read the manga before reading this, because it contains many SPOILERS (and it's a great anime).
I did many of the birth charts of voice actors for Attack on Titan and discovered that an obvious majority had placements in either Pisces nakshatras or Ashlesha. Here, I'll explore some potential reasons why.
Attack on Titan is about freedom and war. The world of humanity, in the protagonist Eren's mind, exists totally behind three mysterious Walls. And yet Eren had always longed to explore the world outside the walls where Titans, man-eating giants, wandered mindlessly. After the outer Wall is destroyed, it becomes obvious that Eren's belief that humanity was like "cattle" waiting to be slaughtered is true. So begin Eren's quest to achieve liberation from fear and the oppression of Titans.
Eren's English dub voice actor has Purva phalguni Sun and Revati moon.
Similarly, many other idealists in the Survey Corps (a military group in charge of exploring outside the walls, which Eren joins) also have Revati (a Pisces nakshatra) in their big 3.
Hange Zoë is voiced by Romi Park with Uttara ashadha sun and Revati moon. They are one of the few rare people who aren't confined by their hatred for Titans and conduct experiments on the Titans, treating them with greater humanity than anyone else. This separates Hange from everyone else, just as Eren's desire to go out of the Walls, considering the bloodthirsty Titans, distinguishes him from the masses.
Similarly, the commander of the Survey Corps, Erwin, is voiced by a Revati moon native also. Erwin's father is a teacher who theorises that the royal family within the Walls could erase memories, and that they erase the memories of everyone living within the Walls of the time they lived outside of it. When Erwin tells his class about his father's theory, the Military Police within the Walls detains his father, tortures him, then secretly dumps his body in a river. Freedom of thought is punished, and the Revati native is left feeling isolated.
Since then, Erwin is motivated to prove his father's theory correct and find out what had happened to force humanity behind these the Walls, showing perhaps why Revati yoni animal is that of an elephant. The elephant remembers what has happened and tries to transcend death. Through Erwin, his father's ideas continue living.
It is revealed later in the series that humanity has -in fact- persists beyond the Wall, and that the people who initially destroyed the Wall were agents tasked with destroying all three Walls so that Marley can mine precious resources beneath the earth in Paradis (the name of the island where the Walls are located).
Berthold and Annie are two of the agents hired by Marley. Annie is voiced by Uttara bhadrapada moon voice actor (another Pisces nakshatra) while Berthold is voiced by a Revati sun and Revati moon VA.
The reason they are chosen is because they are part of a special race of people who could transform into Titans at will with another type of injection. In an effort to liberate their families from racial discrimination in Marley, they become these agents/Warriors for the government, leaving their families and homes behind to fulfil a mission. Again, we see Pisces natives doing many things for freedom, but the show also shows that one person's freedom is another person's oppression. They feel guilty and conflicted about their role once they meet the people behind the Walls and realise they're just as human as the people outside it.
Interestingly, when Annie is caught, she uses a special Titan power to confine herself into a crystal so that she enters a coma. I've briefly touched on how Revati has connections to Sleeping Beauty, which is also relevant here with Annie's VA's moon in Pisces.
Zeke, Eren's half-brother, has Purva bhadrapada moon (another Pisces nakshatra). Zeke was also a proponent of freedom, except this time, he desires freedom from fear for every country outside of Paradis.
Because the people who live within the Walls can all be turned into Titans, he suggests that to end this discrimination, they should sterilise everyone who can turn into a Titan, thereby eliminating the line of people of this race. This reflects the Purva bhadrapada theme of being driven to extremes for activist causes.
When Zeke was a child, he discovered his parents were rebels against the Marley Government. Influenced by an unrelated mentor, he feared that once the government found out, they would turn his grandparents and him into Titans as punishment, so told on his parents to the government trying to save them. Interestingly, he switches sides again and betrays Marley later on in the series.
It is interesting how Purva bhadrapada is symbolised by the two-faced man, and how his betrayals are driven by his unique nihilistic perspective on how to deal with Titans. Perhaps it represents the side of Pisces which is willing to make deals with the devil as much as the saint in order to achieve what they believe is freedom.
Attack on Titan is an anime famous for its many deaths. This speaks to Pisces being the last sign. Purva and Uttara bhadrapada also symbolise the front and back legs of a funeral cot. Death has greater importance in Pisces.
Erwin leads a suicide charge so others have a chance of escaping. Hange takes on giant Titans by themselves so that others can escape. Zeke. Eren lets himself be killed by the woman he loves. There's the theme of the noble sacrifice. However, just because the characters die do not mean their legacy does not live on. They surpass death by making something which will last. For Erwin, his commitment to this idea greater than himself fuels his will to keep living.
This mirrors the selflessness in Christ who takes on the sins of humanity. There is the giving away of oneself for the greater good, which Pisces evokes through being symbolised by the two fish which has historically symbolised Jesus.
Death, in a sense, is necessary to finish off their character arc by showing the extent to which they commit to their purpose; without dying, it is almost as though the characters have not achieved their ultimate purpose. Of course, I don't mean that in a macabre way, but that death is the ultimate sacrifice which shows these natives' commitment to ideals rather than themselves.
Erwin knows that by leading the suicide charge he is letting go of his opportunity to prove his father right and know what information resides in the basement (which they were fighting for). However, he still chooses to die so that they have the opportunity of getting to that information. The ideal surpasses preoccupation with oneself.
There is also the theme of never truly being able to attain freedom. Despite everything Eren does, he is never truly, shown by how every action of his is shown to be predestined, including his death.
What's particular about taking the injection to become someone who can transform into a Titan is that you subject yourself to an early death. Death is necessary to achieve immense power. Eren causes the Rumbling at the end of AOT, deciding to end the rest of humanity rather than end those he loves/has grown up around who can be injected then turned into Titans. This is the ultimate symbol of freedom being achieved by violence and suffering.
Tetsuro Araki, the Chief of Director of the anime between season 1-3, also has Swati sun Revati moon, which again emphasises the Revati/Pisces themes.
Next is Ashlesha.
As an anime to do with war, many of the physically strongest characters are Ashleshas. This includes Levi and Mikasa Ackerman, voiced by Ashlesha moon and an Ashlesha sun and moon respectively.
The Ackermans were protectors of the royal family with superhuman physical abilities before the king found them too powerful since they were immune to his memory distortion. Therefore, by the beginning of the series, they've since been isolated from society. This is evoked by Ashlesha an outcast nakshatra. Levi initially lives in the Underground while Mikasa lives in the mountain forests. The Nagas, Ashlesha's deities, are also known to live in the underworld.
Ashlesha portrayal is rendered opposite to Revati. Both are ruled by Mercury. While Revati represents the idealistic person consumed with the spiritual mission, Ashlesha is in Cancer, and thus its natives are far more concerned with protecting their close ones rather than world-changing ideals.
This is emphasised by the many Ashlesha voice actors also possessing Moon nakshatras.
Levi Ackerman has Shravana sun Ashlesha moon. His cold Shravana instincts stop Mikasa, whose Japanese voice actor has Rohini sun, from making rash decisions to save Eren. (Mikasa's Japanese voice actor has Pisces moon too, which emphasises the prominence of the sign in AOT).
In Ashlesha, the intelligence of Mercury is funnelled toward technical expertise. Levi is dubbed Humanity's Strongest Soldier being evaluated as strong as a brigade while Mikasa is said to equal 100 men.
Ashlesha natives, having grown up in a harsh environment, are not as naive/idealistic as Pisces nakshatras. Levi is also someone more dubious about Eren's powers and the risks it poses for humanity.
Nonetheless, Ashlesha natives are often inspired by the blind spirit/faith of Revati natives. Levi (Ashlesha moon), despite initially receiving a mission to kill Erwin, follows him because he believes Erwin (Revati moon) can see something he cannot. Similarly, Mikasa (Ashlesha sun, Ashlesha moon) is inspired by Eren's (Revati moon) bravery in taking on her kidnapper single-handedly as a child, so much so that she activates her Ackerman instincts and kills the man choking Eren, saving them both.
It is also interesting to see both Ashlesha's being associated with knives, since Ashlesha is associated with the snake deity Sarpa which is occasionally depicted as holding knives.
The Revati inspiration is also true for Jean Kirstein, voiced by a Hasta sun Ashlesha moon (another Moon-Ashlesha native), who initially mocks Eren's desire to become a Scout and go outside the Walls. However, after the Wall is destroyed a second time, he recognises that he doesn't want to stand back and let Titans take over without doing anything, so joins the Survey Corps as well.
Ashlesha is also prominent in the love stories in AOT.
Ymir is also voiced by a VA with Chitra sun Ashlesha moon. She leaves Historia, the girl she loves, and lets herself be eaten by a Titan so that Historia remains safe from the Marley government.
Mikasa protectiveness of Eren is also clear. There's a scene in the English dub where she says "pick your side, Christa. Eren, or the bitch I'm gonna kill?" While Armin, their other friend, represents the urge to venture into the unknown, Mikasa has always been about keeping Eren safe, even if it means sacrificing discovery or novelty.
Levi is also shown as being a protector of sorts. He is the one who is able to single-handedly take down multiple Titans and known as the chief protector of humanity.
Many Ashlesha's don't seem to care for anyone except those they're close to. Many, however, did feel guilty for bombing and attacking Marley.
The Nagas, Ashlesha's deities, are guardians of the Earth. In myth, they are known as half-human and half-serpent, just like the Ackermans are canonically superhuman in their strength. Ashlesha is also known as the clinging star which can be relayed to convey their devotion to loved ones.
To go back to the concept of death, it is interesting that although every character listed previously with Pisces placements, except for Annie Leonhart who goes into a coma, dies by the end of the series. Meanwhile,of the ones which have Ashlesha placements, only Ymir dies- Jean, Mikasa, Levi, all survive. This is really interesting just because of the sheer number of deaths in this anime.
Interestingly, there was a time when the mangaka wanted to kill Ashlesha moon Levi Ackerman. However, the team questioned his decision, asking whether or not his death would serve any purpose. The mangaka then decided against killing Levi.
Death is not an important development for these characters, because their stories were never about dying for a greater purpose. Instead, the characters who had voice actors with Ashlesha placements are used to represent the grief, trauma and damage which war can cause.
To give you a sense of how many characters have Ashlesha and Revati placements, this is from the season 3 poster.
In my next part, I'll be exploring some other secondary nakshatra influences on this anime.
Ashwini- Nakshatra of Forbidden Love
(with commentary on Saturn)
Every movie except 1 from the article "10 Best Forbidden Love Movies" whose core focus is forbidden love due to societal expectations contains an Ashwini native (the only exception being Titanic).
This list contains almost every widely lauded forbidden love story in recent decades. I find it particularly cool to learn more about Ashwini through their roles.
Olivia Hussey (ashwini ascendant, magha sun, revati moon), Leonard Whiting (ardra sun, purva ashadha moon)
Romeo and Juliet (1968) stars Olivia Hussey with Ashwini ascendant as Juliet and Leonard Whiting as Romeo. The story is renowned for being the staple for forbidden love, with the Capulets and Montagues being rival families in 14th century Italy.
Ashwini, as represented by the horse's head, is associated with speed. Ashwini is often known to be a highly able nakshatra with immense energy to pursue its goals (thanks to being in Mars ruled Aries). Hence, the line "these violent delights have violent ends" reflects Ashwini spectacularly. Romeo and Juliet fall in love quickly almost recklessly, are able to hatch a plan of being together, but their end is just as rapid.
It may also be noted that Saturn (rules, restrictions, etc.) is debilitated in Aries. Forbidden love often requires the breaking of Saturnian regulations to prosper.
Adèle Haenel (dhanishta sun, ashwini moon), Noémie Merlant, (anuradha sun, punavarsu moon)
In The Portrait of a Lady on Fire, Héloïse (portrayed by Adèle Haenel, an Ashwini native) refuses to marry. Marianne (played by Noémie Merlant) is hired to paint her, the painting in which would be secretly sent to a potential suitor.
Ashwini natives (like Héloïse) tend to be portrayed in situations where they struggle to conform to societal expectation. However, unlike Mula or Magha, they're not at the point where they can break out of such constraints freely or destructively; they have to mask, the relationship is kept secret, etc.
Ashwini ties into the theme of forbidden love through it being the first nakshatra, the primordial spark burning before it has grasped any societal conventions. At the beginning of the film, Marianne paints Héloïse according to the standards of painting at the time. However, later, the burning dress symbolises in the film Héloïse's desire to push Marianne past the limits of painting norms and make art freely, depicting Ashwini's influence on the Saturn native.
The Ashwini native is more often than not more responsible for pursuing and continuing the relationship, challenging the orderly life of the character with Saturn placements.
James McAvoy (ashwini sun, dhanishta moon), Keira Knightley (uttara bhadrapada sun, krittika moon)
In Atonement, Cecilia and Robbie's love is torn apart by a false accusation from Cecilia's younger sister. This accusation comes after Cecilia's younger sister sees Cecilia taking her clothes off and diving into a fountain to retrieve a vase before Robbie, as well as an incident where Robbie sends an erotic letter to Cecilia, both in which are misinterpreted by her sister.
That scene reflects Ashwini's yearning for freedom, and how that can be misinterpreted with grave consequences under a society conditioned to punish sexuality.
Moreover, water is associated with what came before consciousness (shown by how Revati the last nakshatra is symbolised by fish). Ashwini is the nakshatra which makes its way from water onto land. Still, Ashwini is stuck between the longing to return back into the watery depths and embarking on the soul's necessary journey through life laden with limitations. This can be seen in the fountain scene where Cecilia plays symbolically with the notion of liberty.
Natalie Woods (hasta ascendant, pushya sun, ashwini moon), Richard Beymer (pushya ascendant, shathabisha sun, vishakha moon)
In West Side Story, the most famous reimagining of Romeo and Juliet, Natalie Woods plays Maria while Richard Beymer plays Jet Tony, individuals from rival gangs who fall in love despite racial and familial tensions.
Something interesting to note is that the Ashwini native can sometimes/often be paired with a Saturnian partner (as in the Portrait of a Lady on Fire, West Side Story and Atonement) where the restraints of life and expectations are continuously reinforced by one or more partners and the tension kept high throughout.
Heath Ledger (ashwini ascendant revati sun ardra moon), Jake Gyllenhaal (mula sun krittika moon)
In Brokenback Mountain, the forbidden love of two sheep herders in 1960s-80s America is explored. The rampant homophobia of the decades prevents them from being together, and they both marry women to keep up the guise of conventionality.
Sexuality has been a restraint for many love stories in history. Ashwini here represents the desire to break from arbitrary rules on who one should love. The lavender marriage in this case once again serves to show how Ashwini struggles to fully let go of societal constraints and make efforts to "fit in".
Tony Leung Chiu-Wai (ardra sun, ashwini moon), Maggie Cheung (uttara phalguni, shathabisha moon)
In the Mood For Love, widely considered one of the best romance films of all time, features two characters whose spouses are both cheating on them with each other. As they re-enact their partners' infidelity in an effort to trace why it happened, they slowly grow to love for one another, though this is never made explicitly clear through the film.
The director Wong Kar-Wai stated that he used many shots which feature the couple blocked by or intercepted by objects in the foreground to represent how their relationship is trapped by its taboo nature. The gossip culture of Hong Kong means the couple are never free to pursue who they truly desire, and at the end of the film, they separate. Their parting is driven by -once again- the necessity of keeping up appearances as well as the desire not to be like the people who hurt them.
Cate Blanchet (bharani sun ashwini moon), Rooney Mara (ashwini sun purva bhadrapada moon)
In Carol, two Ashwini natives come together again in the 1950s. Cate's character Carol Aird goes through difficult divorce proceedings, where her ex-husband uses her suspected lesbian relationship against her while fighting for custody over their daughter.
Carol faces the impossible choice of choosing her daughter or Therese. Nonetheless, Carol chooses personal honesty and sacrifices custody, not necessarily for Therese, but for herself and her identity. This is central not only to Ashwini, which embodies very concentrated attention, but Aries as a whole, which heightens the importance of the individual over collective forces.
Ashwini tends to value itself highly and can even be considered selfish, but for them, the 'self' naturally takes priority rather than societal goals/considerations.
Another example of emphasis on the individual lies in The Great Gatsby, where Jay Gatsby uses his own hard work and intellect to create an empire, all to pursue forbidden love.
F. Scott Fitzgerald (uttara phalguni sun, ashwini moon)
The Great Gatsby is also written by F. Scott Fitzgerald- you guessed it, another Ashwini native. The Great Gatsby not only features forbidden love and tragedy but another core theme in many of these films, the trappings of class.
No matter how much money Gatsby amasses, he's never able to escape the confines of not having been born wealthy. Luxury and money slowly decay into a reflection of a deep internal loneliness and emptiness. The headless spending and parties Gatsby hosts are not able to liberate him, representative of Ketu, Ashwini's lord.
I also think it's notable to mention that the movie is by far less popular than the book, which has more Ashwini influence, something that's similar with the Romeo and Juliet (198), which received relatively less commercial/critical success compared to the earlier adaptation in 1968.
So, while you may not see Ashwini natives in every forbidden love story ever, the ones that have achieved massive acclaim tend to have Ashwini influence in one way or another.
Sophia Myles (uttara bhadrapada sun, ashwini moon), James Franco (ashwini sun, purva phalguni moon)
Another forbidden love featuring Ashwini natives is Tristan & Isolde (2006), based on the age-old Irish myth of Princess Isolde and Tristan.
The King of Cornwall desired a wife of golden hair, the only princess of which harboured the description being Princess Isolde of Ireland, enemy of Cornwall. Nonetheless, the King sent his knight and nephew Tristan to slay the dragon in Ireland to make peace. After Tristan was injured in the fight, Isolde, a healer, nursed him back to health, calling to mind Ashwini's associations with medicine and herbs. On the way to Cornwall, Tristan and Isolde fell in love. However, the King banished Tristan after learning of it.
I wondered whether this theme of separation in Ashwini is not only linked to the nakshatra's association with Ketu (detachment), but also due to Ashwini being represented by the twins.
Why is the first nakshatra represented by twins? Perhaps it's because Ashwini represents the stage of division, of cells splitting to form a human, of a state where things are no longer singular but chaotic and multi-faceted (the real world). In this interpretation, the couple shows the tension of trying to return (like the water example) to a state of singularity and easiness where we are not separate and disagreeing with one another due to our differences.
This is similar to the idea in Plato's Symposium where human beings were once eight-limbed creatures with two faces, but were split apart by Zeus due to his fear of their unity (which gave them power). Hence, people were forever cursed to try to find their 'other half'- in other words, soulmates (represented by the nakshatra right after Ashwini, Bharani).
Nicholas Sparks (purva ashadha sun, ashwini moon *possible)
It should not be surprising by now but The Notebook is another forbidden love story with possible Ashwini influence.
It should be noted, nonetheless, that even if the writer doesn't have Ashwini moon, their moon would be in Revati, which is another nakshatra to do with letting go of societal constraints and freeing oneself.
ROHINI beauty - Cathy Ames casting (East of Eden)
Jane Seymour (dhanishta sun, rohini moon), Florence Pugh (purva ashadha sun, rohini moon)
"Even as a child she had some quality that made people look at her, then look away, then look back at her, troubled at something foreign. She moved quietly and talked little, but she could enter no room without causing everyone to turn toward her." - John Steinbeck, East of Eden
Saturn & Rahu- Planets of F1 drivers
Formula 1 is a racing competition. In an article titled "the 10 best Formula 1 drivers ever", 9/10 of the drivers have Saturn or Rahu in their big 3 (with Lewis Hamilton being the only exception).
Max Verstappen (anuradha ascendant, hasta sun, uttara phalguni moon), Charles Leclerc (swati ascendant, chitra sun, aswini moon)
What makes Rahu and Saturn so dominant in this sport?
For Rahu, it makes sense. As a planet concerned with obsession and getting to one's destination in this life, Rahu is embodied in the sport through its goal, which is to be the first to get to the finish line.
Rahu nakshatras are associated with innovation, being the first to think up an idea. Similarly, F1 is all about setting records, increasing the speed and pushing the limits of what's possible.
Alain Prost (shathabisha sun, uttara bhadrapada moon), Niki Lauda (shathabisha sun, mula moon)
Furthermore, along with Saturn and Mars, Rahu is associated with mechanical engineering. Accordingly, the technological aspect of F1 is far more pronounced than in almost any other sport. Rahu's prevalence here speaks to the innate mastery of technology seen in certain Rahu individuals, which they use to fuel their goals.
Moreover, Rahu is associated with friendships and connections. F1 athletes, more than nearly any other sport, relies on sponsorships. In the past, there have been several F1 drivers whose wealthy benefactors, rather than real talent, landed them a seat in the race.
Rahu finds it more natural to derive gains from partnerships and associations, something echoed in the prevalence of the Saturnian Uttara bhadrapada (the nakshatra commonly associated with Cinderella) and Anuradha (ruled by the god associated with friendships).
Michael Schumacher (purva ashadha sun, ardra moon), Sebastian Vettel (ardra sun, uttara phalguni moon), Fernando Alonso (pushya sun, ardra moon)
Another interesting observation is that both Rahu and Saturn are linked with misfortune in some way or another. Ardra, for example, is symbolised by the teardrop and connoted with the storm. These energies grant these natives greater control over harnessing the dangerous and potentially destructive energies of the car they're driving.
Jackie Stewart (mrigashira sun, uttara bhadrapada moon), Ayrton Senna (uttara bhadrapada sun, purva ashadha moon)
Meanwhile, for Saturn, it may initially seem contradictory that the planet associated with slowness and limitations features so strongly in F1. Nonetheless, it is vital to consider how Saturn grants these individuals mental endurance. Within a race, one ordinarily withstands over an hour to two hours of consecutive driving. The Monaco Grand Prix, for example, runs for approximately two hours. Drivers make around 78 laps, around 260 km. Other races feature tracks around 305 km per race.
This perhaps explains why planets like Mars which is also associated with drive and malefic energy aren't featured as strongly. Mars typically doesn't have the endurance for such long periods of competition. Rahu can because Rahu wants to get to the destination. Saturn can because it is a planet made to endure.
Saturn is the planet of time, structure, and discipline. The road to even get into F1 is long, where one normally takes several years to ascend through F4, Regional, F3 and F2. The emphasis on time is also seen through F1 being primarily to do with being the fastest.
For these reasons, Saturn and Rahu are so prominent in F1.
Nigel Mansell (ashlesha sun, pushya moon), Jim Clarke (purva bhadrapada sun, pushya moon)
Hasta- Nakshatra of the Devil in Silk
"The devil doesn't come dressed in a red cape and pointy horns. He comes as everything you've ever wished for"
Christian Coulson (hasta sun, chitra moon), Leonardo Dicaprio (vishakha sun, hasta moon)
There is an archetype in media of a beautiful person who is in actuality evil, which goes back to ancient times with the story of Lucifer, the Fallen Angel. Hasta actors portray almost every major movie to do with swindling, conmen and thieves, but they do so in a way which emphasises the suaveness of the role to such an extent that onlookers rally behind the character despite their immorality.
Christian Coulson portrays Tom Riddle in the Chamber of Secrets of Harry Potter. Riddle, the younger version of Voldemort, manages to fool nearly all professors and students into thinking that he is a role model student who does no wrong. In that way, he gets away with killing a student to become immortal.
Leonardo DiCaprio starred in Catch Me If You Can as well as Wolf of Wall Street. Probably the most famous movie about a conman, in Catch Me If You Can, he pretends to be in multiple professions -teacher, pilot, surgeon- and plays a cat and mouse chase with the FBI, all to live a luxurious and exciting life. He gets in trouble with the law again in Wolf of Wall Street as an investment banker who swindles millions for earn money for himself.
There is a noticeable emphasis on personal ambition, status and money which Hasta natives seem to share. I find interesting is how all Moon nakshatras are grounded in Earth signs. Taurus for Rohini, Virgo for Hasta, Capricorn for Shravana. Many Hasta characters strive for material bliss.
While in Aries one gets started in life and has a singular purpose/concentration, nearing Libra one gets lost in the balancing act and all the illusions of reality. This may partly explain why Hasta individuals (Virgo) are so obsessed with external validators like money or status.
Alain Delon (hasta ascendant, revati sun, punavarsu moon)
Alain Delon stars in Le Samourai where he becomes a hitman for money. Moreover, in Purple Noon, the French adaptation of the Fantastic Mr Ripley, he plays a psychopath who kills his wealthy friend and takes on his identity, forging his friend's signatures, spending his money, and -of course- lying to others to keep up the facade.
It is no surprise, then, that the most famous adaptation of Fantastic Mr Ripley also stars a Hasta native, Matt Damon (who also has Shravana ascendant).
Matt Damon (shravana ascendant, hasta sun, uttara ashadha moon)
It is also intriguing to note the motif of taking on someone else's identity or being seen as someone they are not. For example, Tom Riddle is mentioned repeatedly as being "very handsome" by Harry Potter himself, and no one suspects him of being Voldemort (who looks very different to Tom). Mr Ripley is the same. And the entire plot of Catch Me If You Can has to do with how the main character is able to take on other people's identities so seamlessly they fool everyone else.
Hasta, represented by the hand, is being skilful, be it at technical pursuits or through manipulation, putting on an innocent facade. This may relate to Hasta being located in Virgo which relates to the planet of Mercury.
The Fallen Angel, painting by Alexandre Cabanel (hasta sun, punavarsu moon)
In my films and media, Hasta actors playing in these roles are shown with a scene of them looking up, their eyes seemingly innocent despite what they've done. The Fallen Angel is a painting many reference with this vision. It's no surprise that this, too, has the influence of a Hasta native.
The painting features Lucifer after his fall from heaven. Before his fall, he was considered the most beautiful angel. However, due to his sin of pride, wanting more power than he should have, he was cast down and -in many myths- became Satan- a similar trajectory of many male Hasta characters, after they become caught for their crimes.
Zachary Levi (hasta sun, mrigashira moon), Lorenzo Zurzolo (uttara bhadrapada sun, hasta moon)
Flynn Rider is another criminal Hasta native whose face is never being captured right. This could symbolically have to do with his ability to take on different personas and get away from trouble.
Lorenzo Zurzolo in Baby is another example. He hides his secret relationship with Chiara from the rest of the school in order to avoid scrutiny, keeping up his persona of popularity.
Hasta being in Virgo is known for being conducive to male beauty. Many of these characters and actors have their appearance emphasised to the effect that they become the representation of not being who they seem to be on the outside. For example, Alain Delon was the main male sex symbol in the 20th century, Leonardo DiCaprio had his share in the spotlight, and Flynn Rider is often noted in "hear me out" contexts.
It is interesting how beauty relates to Hasta, and how that differs from Uttara Phalguni. While Uttara Phalguni uses its beauty to create and involve itself in relationships, Hasta's beauty is far more a veneer they use to achieve their own goals.
This is seen through the manipulation of women which many Hasta natives engage in. Tom Riddle uses Ginny Weasley's loneliness to coerce her into opening the Chamber of Secrets. In Le Samouraï, Jef Costello's girlfriend gives him an alibi on the night of the murder, while the female pianist purposefully doesn't identify him for an unknown reason. It is also telling that the animal which continuously helps Jef evade capture by tweeting when police arrive is a bird, an animal culturally associated with women. Mr Ripley continuously gaslights Marge to prevent her from understanding the truth of the murder. Even Flynn Rider attempts to manipulate Rapunzel to obtain his satchel.
It's for this reason I think Hasta represents the male version of a 'femme fatale', a character termed as the 'animus' by Carl Jung. He works to envelop a woman in danger and excitement, until it is revealed that he would not change for the girl. His danger is then directed at the girl, and a tragic ending ensues.
Revati- Nakshatra of Sleeping Beauty
Elle Fanning (Revati sun, Uttara phalguni moon), Mary Costa (voice actor- Revati sun, Ardra moon)
Revati is a nakshatra associated with dreams. It is the last of 27 nakshatras and symbolises when rest is achieved in one's life.
The myth of Revati also highly resembles Sleeping Beauty. Revati, the daughter of King Kakudmi, travelled to Brahmaloka to find a good husband. When she returned, she realised many years had passed on Earth because time passes more quickly in the divine realm.
Sleeping Beauty, too, goes to sleep, accesses the dream realm which many traditional cultures associate with the spirit realm, then wakes up to find that many years had already passed.
Nakshatra of Helen of Troy
(Venus nakshatras + Chitra)
Helen of Troy, the face that launched a thousand ships, is renowned through history as the woman whose kidnapping sparked the Trojan War.
Bella Dayne (purva ashadha sun, magha moon), Sienna Guillory (purva bhadrapada sun, bharani moon)
I think it's quite self-explanatory why the planet associated with love and beauty gets paired with Helen of Troy. Not in all cases/stories is Venus the literal epitome of beauty, but in portrayals of Helen of Troy all except 2 of the actresses I surveyed had a Venus nakshatra or Chitra in their Sun or Moon (when I don't have their birth time, I make it at 12pm).
Irene Papas (purva phalguni sun, purva phalguni moon), Aisling Franciosi (rohini sun, purva ashadha moon)
I'm getting into an interpretive landscape here, but one thing that's interesting with Helen is that she is a figure of beauty not known for merely inspiring lust but mainly of discord. Her husband Menelaus of Sparta cannot suffer the injury to his pride of losing his wife, therefore goes to war.
A similar fictional counterpart is Lyanna Stark from Game of Thrones. *spoiler territory* Robert Baratheon, her intended husband, sees her as more of an idea of a woman than truly human. When she becomes "kidnapped" by Rhaegar Targaryen on her way to her wedding (I put it in quotes because it isn't confirmed whether it was really kidnap or she went with him willingly), Robert's pride makes him start the rebellion which overturns the Targaryen dynasty. Her actress Aisling Franciosi may also have Purva ashadha moon based on her unreleased birthtime.
Venus is a harsh planet with all its nakshatras residing in fire signs. Helen is an adjudicator to the worth of the men in the story in which she resides in. Achilles goes into the Trojan War to be remembered and glorious forever, Menelaus losing her equates to him losing his worth. In the same way men are adjudicated by the beauty of the woman they're with, Venus/Helen here becomes the adjudicator of the men in the story.
Maria Corda (bharani sun, chitra moon), Edy Vessel (chitra sun, punavarsu moon), Rossana Podesta (mrigashira sun, uttara phalguni moon)
Now, regarding Chitra, firstly, it's a Mars nakshatra placed in Libra, a sign ruled by Venus, which heightens the importance of this planet. Moreover, Chitra is to do with the shining jewel, so it makes sense why this nakshatra is seen in actresses for Helen of Troy. In particular, Chitra is the only nakshatra classified three times over as being tamasic in nature, relating to discord, ignorance and chaos.
During the wedding of Peleus and Thetis, Eris threw the apple of discord into the feast with the inscription of “to the fairest”. This led Athena, Hera and Aphrodite to quarrel. Paris eventually decided the winner should be Aphrodite thus was given Helen of Troy as a reward. Therefore, it can be said that Helen, like the apple, incites chaos and discord, and may be connected to Chitra in this manner.
I put Rossana Podesta here also because I think based on the different interpretations of a film, the actress's nakshatra can differ. Mrigashira is a nakshatra to do with the chase, and in the interpretation that the Trojan War is a race for Helen's affection, perhaps Mrigashira energy can be suitable- nonetheless, once again, these are just my observations
Nakshatra of Cleopatra
(Mars + Shravana + Rahu dominance)
Cleopatra's a role that's been played many times across theatre and film. In particular, what's interesting is the peculiar dominance of Mars nakshatras in the portrayals.
Claudia Colbert (uttara phalguni sun, dhanishta moon), sophia loren (uttara phalguni sun, dhanishta moon)
Dhanishta's symbol is the drum/flute. Dhanishta can produce a very particular speech, being the representation of a refined form of Martian energy. Interestingly, Cleopatra's enduring fame in the modern day could be considered celebrity- an association connoted by Dhanishta by its symbolism being 'the most famous'.
Lindsey Marshall (chita sun, mrigashira moon), Janet Suzman (dhanishta sun, chitra moon)
It also should be noted that Mars nakshatras grant energy, motivation and pursuit. Martian women, consequently, inspire pursuit from men. Anthony and Caesar both neglected their empire to remain with Cleopatra. She becomes a trigger for war later on- an example of literal aggression incited.
Theda Bara (ardra sun, shravana moon), Vivien Leigh (swati sun, shravana moon)
Cleopatra is often known for having spoken multiple languages. She wasn't known for being a spectacular beauty, but rather being incredibly charming with her words. To speak well means often also to listen well, and Shravana is often associated with hearing or listening. Vanessa Redgrave is another Shravana native who portrayed Cleopatra multiple times in the play Antony and Cleopatra and later directed it, with Shravana sun and Hasta moon.
Another dominant planet, though not to the extent of Mars, is Rahu.
Elizabeth Taylor (shathabisha sun, vishakha moon), Leonor Varela (purva ashadha sun, swati moon)
The most famous depiction of Cleopatra is by Elizabeth Taylor. Compared to Shravana and Mars actresses which still accentuate Cleopatra's governing capacity, etc., Rahu portrayals of Cleopatra tend to emphasise her enthralling seductress-like qualities, calling to mind Rahu being the swallowing of the Sun. Rahu is the planet of illusions, which can give its natives a mystery about them, which may have been the reason for some of this casting
