The Ravens (9.29.24)

The Ravens made their start in July 2024, playing a show at Vibes Underground. Beginning their role as a new explosive band in the San Antonio scene.

Their sound is screamo revival, mixed with punk, and a dash of emo, all put together gives you music you want to cry to, but also to bash heads to. Each member of The Ravens has a special talent and keeps people constantly hooked. Especially their catchy riffs and head banging DnB, with vocals that could make a suicidal man think twice. I’ve never had a band that i’ve always wanted to hear more of until The Ravens, waiting for their music to release has been the hardest part of knowing them.

Personally me and vocalist, & guitarist; Elijah have known each other for a bit, and is one of the most talented musicians i’ve ever known. bassist; Aidan, drummer; Daniel, and guitarist; Maurico all have earned their flowers, the only thing we can do now is give them what they deserve.

Their stage performances are worth the watch and every penny spent, i’ve only had the opportunity of seeing these guys once but would definitely do anything i can to see them again.

(Edit: “The Ravens” officially renamed themselves “SeeYouSoon” and split up shortly after.)

Venus Twins (5.26.23)

A two piece of twins came to San Antonio for a show that lives in my top 3 life experiences ever. The most stacked 3 band setlist of Phonefoot, Herlovebeheadsdaisies, and of course the Venus Twins.

These brothers have been all over the United States and choose to come to San Antonio in a ditch spot we would later lose. What makes this band interesting is the lack of a guitarist. Vocalist, Matt Derting and lead and only bassist is the beauty under the beat.

Him and his brother, Jake Derting stole the hearts and eardrums of San Antonio’s most rebellious ditch goers, and their music will forever echo in the grave of the ditch.

(Let’s also not forget these guys went on a Mr Beast video about twins and placed 4th, being in the thumbnail of the video and representing their band and brotherly love.)

Pothum (5.5.23)

My first San Antonio local show, a Cinco de Mayo small setlist in the old Pink Zeppelin location. Originally I had only seen pictures of shows on Insta so I had to go to see my buddies jam out.

Using a borrowed camera for the night and absolutely no sense of how to do concert photography, I failed as a photographer. But I did not fail as a friend to see Anthony and Joel’s first and final performance as Pothum. Their stage fright and audience of only friends made them seem nervous but once they got into a groove it had all of us in the back swaying.

Seeing the changes they’ve both made is incredible and huge props to them. Joel is now drummer for band, Fifteenyeardual; and Anthony is now vocals and guitar for band, OnceMore.

Law of Inertia (11.25.23)

Almost a full year later since the Sass Bash and this show will still live in infamy in my mind. Law of Inertia is one of my favorite bands from outside Texas and this was my first time hearing them live.

Seeing them on the flier made my eyes pop out like a cartoon character getting hit with a hammer. These two brothers have some of the most insane energy i’ve ever seen out of a two piece, they make rainbows turn to dust and make life feel unreal.

Fun fact they actually used this photo in their spotify gallery for a while and I almost had a meltdown seeing it and all its grainy quality goodness. Definitely would go back to any show they have in San Antonio or in Texas.

Isetmyfriendsonfire (7.27.24)

This band is beyond legendary, and wouldn’t even known about them until my friend Lili put me on completely. These guys are amazing live and vocalist Matt Mehana is incredible.

The feeling of being on barricade while shoving my camera so far into Matt’s face, made all the other human sweat on my back worth it. I would make the drive to their next show in Texas, roadtrip?

Fifteenyeardual (9.29.24)

This is my favorite new band that’s been playing recently. not biased cause i know them but… their style of sound is a mixture of rebellion on your parents and holding the door for an old lady. What I think is the perfect music to thrash my head repeatedly while watching shirtless men throw themselves at teenagers.

These 4 are making the san antonio scene feel new again and hopefully will rise better and sooner than they think.

Ghoti (2.3.24)

This night was one of the best diy shows I went to. Beginning of February so it was comfortable weather and not too many people so it would be over crowded. Ghoti’s set was amazing with perfect vocals and music to fill your soul.
