somewhere amidst the walk from the mess hall to said classroom yeonji was making her way to, she regained her composure and felt the presence of another taking the same route as her. her assumption was correct when she heard the door click behind her a few seconds too long after she made her way into the barren room. then that oh-so-familiar voice speaking out also confirmed it was who she had in mind that followed her here.

yeonji’s back was still to the older and she took this to her advantage to buy her time. she dragged her feet over to her desk, searching for the supposed something she told her classmate she lost. in reality, yeonji was searching for her courage. the girl was so used to running away from everything and it was not in her personality to confront anything. but somehow, anything related to jaeho was never in her personality and it was quite a thrill dating the boy … until she fell too deep.

the green monster called jealousy was a ferocious being. at the beginning stages of their relationship, yeonji had prepared herself for his lifestyle since she wasn’t one that got jealous easily; at one point in her life, she accepted that everyone always preferred someone over her and it pained no one but herself to be envious over such petty things. but as she started getting more invested, the green monster managed to slip itself into her life, devouring her alive. it really was a beast always finding ways to degrade her life. if even jaeho couldn’t put her above others, then there really was no one that put her of importance. this raised a giant red flag warning. she didn’t want to go back to her old days of wallowing in self-pity so she decided to raise the white flag early and call it quits.

even if she had been the one to end it, she could never bring herself to be around the other. she had dove too deep into the game the two were playing that the damage wasn’t something that healed itself instantly. but now that the other player was just a couple feet away from her, there was no where to run.

when enough courage was mustered and there wasn’t enough time to outthink herself out of it, yeonji raised her head for the first time. she couldn’t even find the decency to give him a half smile before answering. “ i thought i left something behind. why are you here? ”

a part of her scoffed to herself at such a dumb question she asked. of course jaeho was here for her, but seeing that nothing had changed with him, she didn’t understand why. “ what happened to the girl you were just with? ”

a sudden calling of her name caused her body to tense up before the realization of who the voice came from caused it to relax again. her eyes squinted in the older’s direction partially due to the sun, but also due to the playful irritation she held against him right now. “ jesus, you scared me. announce to the whole world what my name is will you? ” her voice also carried the slight annoyance she was feeling but unlike when she was around others, yeonji had no intention to hide or even apologize for it. taewoon knew the younger on a level that was way beyond how others knew her. they also worked off a friendship where insults worked in a two-way lane so she knew the older was just going to brush off the way she just spoke. in other words, taewoon played a role pretty darn close of being yeonji’s best friend, but she was never going to admit it — to herself or the other.

“ mhm, i’m ready. ” her voice hummed aloud. “ was just waiting for you actually. ” having plans to go off campus with the older wasn’t something that was new on her agenda. her face then scrunched up hearing the name of her coven, remembering how she spent the latter half of the school day because of a favor she agreed to by another coven member. she was still bitter over the treatment. “ if by rosea shit you mean agreeing to tutor an annoying ass that caused me to skip two of my classes without a fucking thank you at the end, then yeah i don’t have any of that to do later today, ” yeonji laughed immediately after hearing how passive-aggressive she just sounded. but she was glad she got to let that out; it was the effect hanging around taewoon had on her. 

now her mood was better and she clang herself onto the other’s back, knowing well that there weren’t others around to see them. “ let’s go play! ”

after picking up her respective belongings that dropped in the collision, yeonji’s eyes traveled upward to check if the other was okay. it was a familiar face. yena, her name was, she thinks. the girl wasn’t the greatest at names but she recognized the face from student council and had seen her around campus with other lunaria girls before. the air hung heavy between the two as she remembers all their previous encounters.

yeonji was not one to start much small talk with others, but she had a reputation to uphold as a rosea member and would occasionally wave or give a small smile to others. however, every time yeonji tried to greet the other, she was only left with a blank stare and moments to bathe in her own embarrassment. mixed with their nature of being in opposing covens and all the rumors that flew around school about the older, yeonji had begun to convince herself that the other didn’t like her.

details observed from the other put together a puzzle that said yena was also here at the library to study. yeonji bit down on her lower lip, still letting the intimidation flowing in the air eat her alive. she really was not in the mood or had enough time to step on the other’s tail even more; the collision had already probably scored her another hundred points on the other’s blacklist. “ uhm, you can use that spot. ”

she adjusted the straps of her backpack, ready to retreat back to her room.

the second hand ticked three, two, one. and finally the long awaited signal that classes were over rang. yeonji packed away her materials and stayed back waiting for the herd of bull fighting to get through the door to disperse before finally taking her turn. at that moment, her phone vibrated in her back pocket indicating she had a new message. she smiled to herself reading the message; hyemi must be busy later to send her daily remembers for yeonji to eat now at such an awkward time to have a meal. regardless, yeonji knew not to disobey this order as she’s lived through consequences several times and take a trip to the mess hall before returning back to her room. 

soon enough, yeonji found herself nearing the mess hall with a classmate she had luckily encountered along the way that agreed to eat an afternoon snack with her. it was weird how eating alone seemed to be a societal taboo that no one ever taught students; just the sight of two students sitting with their faces glue to their phone screen was more accepting that a lone student doing the same action. even if she didn’t know her classmate that well, yeonji was glad that the other was the let-me-tell-you-about-my-life type of girl and didn’t need yeonji to contribute much into the conversation. or else the other would’ve found out how unamusing yeonji was and blew off their meal. 

amidst trying to listen and understand the other (though most of it really was just entering one ear and leaving the other) her sight focused itself on a scene that caused her to completely stop paying attention. her feet stationed itself in its current place, breathing hitched, and heart dropped before reviving itself and started beating fast enough to run out of her own body on its own. 

she should’ve prepared herself to encounter this type of scene. yeonji had the clearest view of cho jaeho face sucking making out with another girl. it was like some of the stitches that were mending her broken heart ripped themselves off, literally. all the effort she used to convince herself she was over him was gone in one blow. she needed to get out of this situation before anything else happened.

but it was too late for that.

a sudden “yeonji, are you okay?” from her classmate caused her to lock eyes with the one person she least wanted to notice her. yeonji looked away to her classmate with the most sheepish and guilty expression written on her face. she pretended to pat her pockets then backpack, “ shit, uh, yeah. i just realized, i uhm, left something in the classroom. eat without me. ” and with that, yeonji turned her back from the scene and walked away as briskly as she could. she didn’t know if she was even in the right direction to head back to the classroom, but all that mattered was that she left that behind.

yeonji was about to encounter one of her greatest fears, jokingly said, if the next couple of steps weren’t taken as carefully and quietly as possible. even from the distance she was at now, she could see the slit in which her neighbor’s door was left ajar — part of her knew the exact reason and it sent shivers down her spine. the last time the young witch looked at a clock, it was about nine at night, long past a normal dinner time. hyemi was going to have yeonji’s head if she was seen now.

she mentally counted and only needed three steps before reaching her door. first step, she was on her tiptoes, gritting her teeth while holding her breath. second step, she was glancing at the other’s door, cautious for any sound indications that the older girl was about to trample out of her room, ready to bite yeonji’s head off. and third step, she was in front of her door. even then, yeonji couldn’t let out the breath of air she was holding. if one had to compare the scene right now, the young witch definitely looked like a thief; she at least for sure felt guiltier than one.

her mission was almost accomplished. just getting into her own room quietly was left. yeonji slowly pulled her keys out of her backpack, fist secured around the metal object to reduce the jingling sound. when the door was finally open, she left out half of the breath she was holding. the finish line was so near. it was tangible. the glory of spending the rest of the night without feeling the wrath of hyemi was just seconds away. 

and so the girl had spoke ahead of herself.

at such a crucial moment, yeonji had dropped her keys while pulling it out of the keyhole now. the clanking of the metal object against the floor reverberated through the room. “ah shit,” that was strike one. but as if this action wasn’t already unfortunate enough... the night breeze picked up its speed and slammed the door into its closed position louder than necessary. her heartbeat picked up as if racing a marathon by itself. “fuck,” that was strike two.

seongsu with its longstanding reputation as one of the top schools meant that there was only two type of apparent lifestyles: studying all day or partying all day (and those occasional people that claimed they were both but still leaned more toward one side of the scale). anyone could tell which category yeonji fell into as she was walking quietly in the building structure, footsteps light as feathers to not interrupt anyone. who knew what kind of temper burying heads deep into books for a prolonged period of time could bring. 

after her feet lead her awkwardly around the whole building, she let out a mental sigh of defeat. the young witch had not expected the library to be filled to the brim today. but there obviously were students that fell more strictly into the former lifestyle than she did. yeonji was ready to trudge herself back to her room and study there (despite knowing that she got easily distracted and was going to get nothing done) after giving the area one last glance. 

and just as if luck was on her side. aha! there it was, yeonji had found an empty spot. with excited steps, the witch headed toward the barren table. but perhaps, she had gotten too ahead of herself, yeonji didn’t realize someone was standing in front of her until she accidentally collided with the other. 

she lifted her eyes up apologetically, “ oh goodness, i’m sorry! ”

yoo, hi e’ryone! i’m yan the mun of this lil sweet-tart, yeonji. but please call her komji. everything is still a mess atm cause i’m not very good at this so i have no plots yet and i still need to work out her intro page a lil, but LOVE ME PLS. 

i realize this is short, but i’m late to my own birthday celebration (HOLLA but i’m still youngin’) lolol but i just wanted to leave my mark. so once i’m back, hopefully in one piece, i’ll get the ball rolling.
