A very close friend of mine who’s in the Netherlands wants to get a bird skull and asked about how to get one.  I know legalities out in Europe are vastly different for ours (US has MBTA), I want to see if I can get that information for them but mostly also helping them get a bird skull properly. And information would be super helpful!

As they’re within the EU they can buy one from within the EU and have it posted to them (so long as it’s a clean skull it wouldn’t be an issue). Some species are protected to the point that you need a license to own their remains, or to sell their remains, but that’s mostly birds of prey. If they’re after a specific species, it’d be worth checking it isn’t listed on the EU Reg (it’s the EU’s own internal version of CITES, birds start on page 28). If it isn’t on there, and it isn’t on CITES, (as far as I can recall off the top of my head and assuming it’s a dead common species like robin or starling), it’s fair game for them to just buy and own one.

For outside the EU, only domestic species are allowed to be posted, or there’s import fees on wildlife species. For the most part, it’s easier to buy within the EU.

Not everywhere in the EU! Many bird species are protected in France (including sparrows and robins) so do be careful where you buy deads, as there are different laws in the EU.

Hey, like this post if you’re a blog that post irl bones and skulls but not much gore and also if you’re ok with me drawing said bones!!

I love doodling skulls and such but I’m scared to follow vultureblogs bc of gore and such 🙉

No gore on this blog! Sometimes I do post dead animals but only if they isn’t wounds or things visible. Anything bloody I post from now on goes on @prettybloodybeautiful so I am sure to keep them separate. Also, anyone is welcome to draw anything I post, and I would love to see what people do if possible!

This gnarly old black bear skull was quite the find ! My local taxidermist has him sitting on the shelf. He told me he had mounted that bear about 35 years ago, and was shocked to see this deformed skull! After all those years, he never sold it until I came along. I am honored to have this unique piece in my collection
