Appreciations!
Thanks for following this blog on this journey to raising awareness for systemic discrimination! After reading, we hope we were capable of helping with some of the current issues of systemic discrimination. Please feel free to comment if you would like.
Before we say goodbye, always remember that discrimination can be very prevalent and damaging.
As well, you may not be able to see it because it is subtle and unintentional, but it still exists!
Girls and boys should be equal. Please don’t discriminate against another gender, as both have strengths that can contribute!
Help stop systemic discrimination for social justice!
A picture of equality for all.
Facts and figures:
Based on the survey for grade 11 RHHS students:
-Roughly 74.1 percent of students witnessed systemic discrimination
-The school was the most common place (voted by 90 percent of people)
-Most people think that systemic discrimination is a problem (voted by 66.7percent of people)
-Race (77.8 percent), disabilities (44.4 percent), and mental illnesses (44.4percent) were most commonly described characteristics that people feel are used to discriminate against.
As shown by the survey, systemic discrimination is seen quite often and a lot of people see it as a problem. Since people see it so often yet think it is a problem, it suggests that systemic discrimination is hard to resolve since we are all part of said “system” making it hard to see it objectively. Also, disabilities is quite surprising since we don’t talk about it a lot even though race and mental illnesses are discussed more frequently in this class.

Some Cases about Systemic Discrimination
Case #1 Gender
Kohli v. International Clothiers, 2012 HRTO 153 The court accepted that her store manager told Ms. Kohli that she was not fit to serve as an assistant manager because she was a woman and that when she questioned these decisions, she was retaliated.
Case #2 Gender, disability, association and reprisal
Knibbs v. Brant Artillery Gunners Club, 2011 HRTO 1032 Ms. Cribbs and Ms. Long were bartenders of the Brent Artillery Gunners Club and were fired. While Ms. Knibbs was on sick leave, she was downgraded full-time to a part-time job and her confidential medical information was announced and she was laid off. When she filed a human rights claim, she was accused of stealing and reporting to the police.
Case #3 Age
Tearne v. City of Windsor 2011 HRTO 2294 After Mr. Tearne could not complete the pre-job test related to the heart test, Windsor City withdrew the conditional employment notice as part-time arena staff.
Case #4 Gender & Race
Chuvalo v. Toronto Police Services Board, 2010 HRTO 2037
Ms. Chuvalo was terminated by the Toronto Police Department after her supervisor formally filed a formal complaint regarding harassment based on gender, ethnic origin and descent.
Case #5 Gender, sexual harassment
Kotevski v. 1217993 Ontario Wimpy’s Diner, 2011 HRTO 705
Ms. Kotevski was subject to repeated harassment over a period of two years that escalated in the last year of her employment. She was subjected to sexual assault by her employer, and afraid and anxious to be alone in the restaurant.
According to my research and interview, many students have experienced systemic discrimination in schools because of their skin colours.
In 2016, a community coalition has filed a human rights complaint against the York Region District School Board, citing numerous incidents of racism in the region's school system. Firstly, they complain that when they found out an aged of 8 black students are bullied, the school denied it and blamed them were lying. Secondly, a group of the whites beat up some blacks and record the process and spread it to social networks but schools ignored it until 8 hours later. Thirdly, an aged of 10 or 11 black boy thought he was excluded from the teacher and his teacher was always constantly made racist remarks about his afro.
Also, a parent named Garth Bobb who has three children said his children have the same problems about racism and racial discrimination.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t have formal methods to solve problems. The only thing parent can do is filing a human rights complaint and make sure that teachers are good that never have racism and racial discrimination.
Why does racial discrimination exist?
Helping each other grow.

Poster for mental illness. Please don’t discriminate against people with mental illnesses! They are human too.
Poster for religion.
There are many different cultures, so we should not discriminate against them!
We must stop systemic discriminating! It causes many people have the mental illness like depression, anxiety, suicide, and so on. Since we are all human beings with fundamental rights, we should treat each other equally regardless of different skin colors, genders, ages, sexual orientations, etc.
Everyone is equal. No race should be inferior to any other race. Please do the right thing! Even though we cannot see it, it still exists! Discrimination is not right.
Celebrate differences.
